Andrew A.

Tempe, AZ

About Andrew

My name is Andrew, and I've been a musician nearly my entire life. I have a Bachelor's degree in classical guitar performance from Arizona State University, but my background goes far beyond classical music. My performance experiences range from playing violin in my high school symphony orchestra to playing lead guitar in a Santana cover band, and just about everything in between! As a teacher, you can expect me to be positive and encouraging. My biggest goal is to inspire you and help you discover a similar passion for music as I've developed over the years.

*** Lesson Details ***
While
I do expect students to practice consistently, I always do my best to tailor the lesson plans to their wants as well as their needs so practice is both fun and challenging. For students pursuing classical music, I'll typically start them in a book and reading sheet music, but for just about anything else, the lesson plans will be more customized to the taste of my students and will not require music reading ability in most cases. After the first few months, my students can expect to have a solid understanding of music, their instrument, and what steps to take to reach their long term goals.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio includes a full drum set, electric piano, as well as several guitars and a bass guitar. I would prefer that the student brings his or her own guitar or bass. I always have spare books and music in case the student forgets to bring their own.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my own guitar and bass guitar, but for piano and drum lessons, the student will need their own instrument and a quiet area to get the most from the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
While I have a degree in classical guitar, I have several years of experience with blues and classic rock, specifically on the electric guitar and drums. Aside from those, I enjoy all genres of music and have plenty of musical experience outside of the aforementioned genres.

Alysia R.

Gilbert, AZ

About Alysia

Music has been my passion for the past 18 years. I started piano when I was 5 yrs old and the violin when I was 7 yrs old. I continued with lessons until I entered the Detroit High School for Performing Arts. During my sophomore year, I took additional classes at Wayne Sate University for music theory and in my senior year I took on my first piano students. I have been teaching piano, violin and music theory ever since. I have also choreographed and taught dance for many years as dancing has been with me since my first lessons at 4 yrs old. My focus is in ballet, tap and jazz. I am a gradua
te from Eastern Michigan University where I was actively a part of the music and dance program.

*** Lesson Details ***
I remember my piano teacher and I try to keep her balance of fun and learning. I am a very fun teacher, but I do expect my students to work, and learn. I introduce learning games and have contests. I also regularly quiz my students. For the younger students I like to inform the parents about what they should be practicing and of any theory exercises they may have for the week. Music is a rewarding and enjoyable passion that I try to pass on to my students.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students should have their own instruments. I will provide the first books, but they will have to provide the books that come after and I will assist them with that.

*** Specialties ***
I've been doing ballet, tap and jazz for 16 years and i taught all of them for about two years. I teach classical piano and violin.

She was very respectful that I didn't know my fingerings and walked me through the whole process. She also didn't care how long it took for me to learn a song. I'd say at this rate I'll be playing the Entertainer in just 1 month. I give Mrs. Rojas 4 stars.

We were disappointed when Alysia showed up late to our 8 year old daughters very first piano lesson (which was an 8th birthday gift.....she was very excited) And then to our surprise she leaves the lesson 5 full minutes early. We thought that maybe she was having a rough day and decided to give it a shot again next week. Well, this time, not to our surprise, after a suspiciously quite...piano lesson...our daughter confirmed what we had hoped was not going on....Ms. Alysia spent much of the lesson texting with "her parents". Just disappointing.

Kathryn taught my children in home as well as a chosen location. Kathryn was always prepared and interacted well with my children. She would challenge my children with their music. They learned from your many talents. Thank you Kathryn for all of your patience and sweet kindness. We were sad that you moved away but we are excited for you to be close to your family again.
