In piano lessons, you will learn all the basics of music reading and music theory. I like to give people knowledge that they can use and expand on in their own time. You will play a variety of pieces and have the opportunity to choose music that you enjoy! I use the Faber Piano Adventures series as a guidepost for learning. *I teach beginner and early intermediate piano only, as piano is a secondary instrument for me personally. If you want to learn to play for enjoyment, learn basic theory and sightreading, I can absolutely help you! If you are looking to learn competition-level piano, I might not be right for you :)*

About Monica
***Prospective students, please note: My availability is very limited as I have a full studio of students! Please check my availability calendar before signing up for lessons. Thanks!***

My first priority is instilling a love for the arts into any student I teach. No matter what the skill level is, I want my students to love music and learning. I believe in setting the students up for success while also challenging them to be their best.
My experience as a classroom teacher is useful in helping me understand different types of students and cater to their individual needs and learning styles. I have experience teaching both private piano and voice, as well as experience in putting together recitals and stage shows. I have a degree in music from the University of Central Florida, which has allowed me to receive diverse ty
pes of musical education as well as hands-on experience in teaching methods.
A student of mine will not only learn techniques specific to their instrument, but also a more broad range of music theory and performance knowledge which will apply to any other musical endeavor they may wish to pursue.

*** Lesson Details ***
I offer a relaxed environment where students will be given new challenges and information without feeling pressured or stressed out. I want to make learning fun while also giving them a firm grasp on the techniques and practices. I use a variety of music books and series such as Piano Adventures, but I also like to find out what type of music the student is interested in playing and cater the curriculum to their needs.
After the first set of piano lessons, most of my students will know the basics of reading music/music theory and basic practice techniques. After a few months, they will be able to read and play a piece of music on their own. Depending on the level of skill and hard work, students can progress quickly and they will love showing off their new skills to their friends and families.
In voice lessons, students have an opportunity to focus on their personal goals while being guided toward healthy singing habits and optimal tone. Students can work with me to choose their own repertoire, and we use primarily karaoke tracks so that I can focus on the vocals and pinpoint problematic areas.
Performance opportunities and recitals are given at least semi-annually, so that students can be given a chance to show off their new skills! Our annual formal recital is also a benefit to raise money for various children's charities. We also have a studio channel where student performances are posted regularly!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a keyboard if necessary for the first lesson, but all piano students will be expected to own their own keyboard or piano within the first month of lessons. I buy method books for students and expect reimbursement, but this is a minimal expense. I provide many pieces of sheet music, folders, and additional teaching materials free of charge.

*** Specialties ***
"Head voice" singing for children, sight reading practices for piano, Broadway singing and performance, opera singing and performance

Michael helped my wife and I get ready for our first dance for our wedding. Without him we wouldn't have been able to pull it off. He helped us learn so much in an extremely quick time schedule (about a month before the big day). Everything was easy going and fun. All of us joked a lot which made both my wife and I a lot less nervous. At the same time everything was extremely professional. He always helped us choose the best ways to do all the moves and showed us extra stuff to add if we felt we could do them on the day of. Michael, from the little time we knew him, is kind, sincere, and downright awesome. We can't thank him enough for how much he helped us.

The piano is such a versatile instrument, used in almost any style of music. It's also a great instrument to learn, either as a principal instrument, or in addition to your principal instrument! Lessons will focus on note-reading, rhythm, and all other important aspects to improve your piano playing!

About Yamilet
Yamilet realized her love for music at the early age of 7, after singing along with children's television shows and joining her elementary school chorus. She was also a member of the Orff ensemble and in the 4th grade began learning to play the violin. Using that background knowledge, she began to teach herself piano. In the 5th grade, she switched to cello. Although she has always had an insatiable curiosity with musical instruments (playing as many notes as she can figure out on harmonica, guitar, recorder, clarinet, double bass, viola and even water-filled glasses) she has stuck with the cello for almost 15 years.

Yamilet is a Dr. Phillips High School alum, where she was accepted into their Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Program. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors in Music Performance in 2010, s
tudying with Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra members Barbara George and Laurel Stanton. She recently completed her Master of Arts degree in Music Performance. In that time, she performed with the UCF Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Laszlo Marosi, and was the principal cellist for over 5 years. She also played with the UCF Chamber Ensemble, String Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, and sang in the Women'€™s Chorus and Opera Workshop.

Locally, Yamilet has performed with the Space Coast Pops Orchestra under the direction of Richard Hayman, alongside guest artists including Carol Stein, Copeland Davis, and Valerie Pernice. She has also played alongside well-known artists/bands such as Jodi Benson, Mana', Kansas, and Classic Albums Live. Yamilet also enjoys performing and recording for local bands and artists such as Urbe Prima, The Drive to Uqbar, Ratham Stone, Stockholm, Hoyle, James Roquemore, and Edgar Junior.

*** Lesson Details ***
My job as a teacher is to help you learn everything you need to know about playing your instrument, and really perfecting your technique. I like to use the Essential Elements for Strings book because it is straight-forward and lets you move at your own pace. Once you are proficient enough with the basics, we may move on to the Suzuki Solo books and take time to be able to get each piece to a performance-ready level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I provide music stands, appropriate seating, and supplemental music. I expect the students to have their own instrument and necessary accessories (rock stop, rosin, shoulder rest).

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Folk, Classic Rock, and Pop

You'll learn the basics of the piano, notes, scales, techniques, and learn a performance piece of your choice - all in a laid back and casual environment! I strive in cozy spaces and work to create a homey and welcoming place for my students.

My expertise: I've been playing piano and have been involved with music since 1998. I have also taken piano lessons for 7 years and performed in various recitals. Music has always played a huge part in my life and I love to share my love for music with others.

About Lily
Hello!

I am a 2014 graduate of the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development and Education. I have completed 2 internships, both in 1st grade, then taught Kindergarten in Seminole county Schools for one year and have since discovered my love for teaching in one-on-one situations. I believe that building relationships is an important and integral part of effective teaching, and the learning stems from that.

I have a passion for music, and have been playing flute since 2003, piano since 1998, and ukulele since 2011. I have also played guitar off an on for the past 10 years.

**FLUTE**

I played the flute throughout middle and high school, and I continue playing for weddings, holiday performances, church functions, etc. to this day. I have consistently auditioned for All-County
performances all throughout middle and high school with flute, and have received top positions.

**PIANO**

I have been playing piano since 1998, taken piano lessons for 7 years, and performed in several recitals. Now I mostly play for fun. My favorite piano songs to play are TV, Movie, and Video Game themes!

**UKULELE/GUITAR**

I have taught myself guitar and ukulele and have performed in a few festivals and coffee shops around Orlando. When I was teaching, I often brought my instruments with me to play for my kindergarten class!

I write music as well with my twin sister - we enjoy writing electronic/indie/pop music together.

I've also enjoyed venturing into the world of graphic design, and since Fall 2015, have been running my own tiny little design business with a few clients here and there. I've taught myself how to use adobe photoshop and illustrator to create social media graphics, logos, flyers, and t-shirt designs.

I currently work from home doing graphic design as well as teaching music lessons.

**LOCATION**

I am located in College Park near downtown Orlando.

**TEACHING STYLE**

My teaching style is laidback and casual in nature. I believe the most productive learning comes through relationships, trust, and fun! My philosophy is to focus on you. What kind of music do you enjoy and what do you need to get the most out of your lessons? I strive in cozy, safe feeling environments and hope to create a welcoming space for our lesson time. (Check out my pictures to see my lesson space!)

I see myself as a facilitator - I will teach you the foundations of your chosen instrument and what you need to know I will be by your side to encourage and help you. But... you will put in most of the work! You get out of lessons what you put into them - for this reason I highly encourage daily practice! Even if it is just 5-10 minutes a day.

I also hold a recital once or twice a year so that you have the opportunity to perform and show off your skill and everything you have learned.

**LESSON DETAILS**

Piano lessons will be held in my home in Orlando (college park). I do require a purchase of a piano book depending on your skill level (about $5-10 on amazon), and notebook in order for me to write down what to practice for the following week. If I am traveling to you, you will need to have a piano or keyboard available for lessons.

Flute lessons will be held in my house in Orlando or online (via TakLessons Classroom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or Skype). You will need to have your own flute for lessons and practice. I will also have you purchase a fairly cheap lesson book on amazon (book will be depending on your skill level) and suggest having a notebook so I can write down what you need to practice for the following week.

Ukulele lessons will be held in my house or online (via TakeLessons Classroom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or Skype). You will need to have your own instrument available for lessons and practice. I do require purchase of lesson books that you can get fairly cheap on amazon. I also suggest having a notebook in order for me to write down what to practice for the following week.

**CANCELLATION POLICIES**

I require 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a lesson (with the exception of illness). Otherwise, you will be charged the regular lesson fee.

**MORE ABOUT ME!**
Some of my hobbies include writing/playing music, graphic design, traveling, hiking, camping, writing, painting, gardening.

I love my cat, my husband, coffee, food, Netflix, relaxing at home, going on crazy adventures, the beach, the mountains, and tacos!

In May, 2016, I graduated from Valencia College with an A.A. in Piano Performance. In 2014, I started teaching piano lessons for beginners. I taught for two years in an after school program at a middle school in Orlando. Now I teach private students.

A typical lesson with me looks something like this:
The student plays what they have practiced, and we work on any difficult areas and techniques for playing better.
We discuss the next lesson, making sure the student understands everything.
I expect my students to practice every day, just as I do. It is the only way to become proficient.

About Melody
Hello. My name is Melody Cook.

I began learning to play the piano when I was five. After pursuing other interests for several years, I decided to study piano performance at Valencia college, where I completed my degree in May of 2016 with a 4.0 GPA. I continued my education at UCF and graduated with honors in 2019, earning a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in music composition.

My teaching experience began early. I was home schooled and taught some of my younger siblings reading, mathematics, and beginning piano. I have tutored children ages 5- 13 in reading and mathematics. I worked as a daycare teacher off and on for a few years in my twenties, teaching children ages 2- 10. In my thirties, I began teaching piano class at a middle-school. I have been teaching private piano lessons to all ages since 2014.

On my pr
ofile I stated that I can teach students with special needs. I want to clarify that I do not have training in this area, but I have worked with children who have ADHD and autism. It is important for me to meet with the parents before the first lesson and discuss anything I need to know, in order to give their child a positive learning experience. The children I have taught who have special needs are great piano students! They enjoy playing the piano, and I enjoy working with them!

I started piano lessons at age 3 and know that you are never too young to begin learning piano. I have been privileged to work with amazing teachers who helped develop my skills. My experience-working with young children and also working adults. All ages are welcome! You will learn to read music, theory, sight reading , playing by ear, and learn to play other genres of music i.e. reggae music. Let’s make it happen!!!

About Jo-Anne
My name is Jo-Anne. I am so thankful to my mother who pushed me and allowed me to learn how to play the piano! I remember when I started private piano lessons how much I disliked it! My teacher realized this and began to appeal to my strengths. I ended up having fun and I want to ensure that same experience for the students I teach. I will admit I hated practicing but once I began to enjoy it, I got better at it because I practiced. Learning music is fun as long as we work hard! My motto is work hard, play hard. Not only did I learn how to play, I learned perseverance, patience, and time management. After high school, I attended Rollins College and continued studying piano with Dr. Cook. She taught me that teaching music is just as important as playing music and that’s where my love for teaching piano came about. Not only do I love and en
joy classical music, I am also very skilled in other genres especially reggae music from the island of Jamaica. I play at various churches, events, weddings, etc and I look forward to sharing my expertise with all of you!
