My youngest piano student is 3 and is doing incredibly well! My oldest student was 78 and had always wanted to learn to play. I can help you with your piano goals from beginner to advanced, from the basics of reading music and playing a song for your family to performance auditions and everything in between. I use a number of methods, however, I am open to help you learn through a method of your choice if you have one you enjoy. I will guarantee to having you play a familiar song within one month!

I've played piano in many different bands (folk, jazz big band, rock, funk, pop, praise), played for musical theatre auditions and pit orchestras, choir concerts, weddings, funerals, accompanied myself as a singer songwriter for 20 years, and played piano for improvised musicals with improv comedy troupes—this is super fun and I would love to teach you how to make stuff up on the fly. In lessons, I develop a unique plan for each student—some people want to learn to play by ear, some want to read music, some want to improvise, some want all of it, and I'm here to teach you whatever you want to know. Physical movement is a huge part of playing piano, and I've created many finger exercises over the years to help students play smoothly, easily, and quickly. We can dig in to Hanon exercises and Bach fugues if that's your thing, or learn video game music, or stick to simple chord changes underneath a pop song. The piano is an incredible instrument, made more so when you experiment with electric keyboards; I play on a Korg SV-1 that I named Margaret after my piano playing grandma, and we make beautiful sounds together every day.
