I am a classically trained pianist (I studied piano performance at SUNY at Buffalo) and I've made a living all my life playing Blues, Rock, Jazz, Salsa and many other styles. With this background I am able to teach with many different approaches depending what the student is interested in pursuing and what approach fits the student best.

About Ricardo
I have been a professional musician and teacher all my adult life. Music is my passion and has always been how I make a living. I teach piano/keyboards, guitar, voice, bass and ukulele. I studied classical piano at SUNY at Buffalo and I initially learned to play guitar and singing on my own. Years later I studied voice and guitar with great professional instructors. I am familiar with different ways of learning music: from very structured and traditional methods (that we use in classical music) to more improvisational and "by ear" approaches as we often do in popular music. This helps me tailor my music teaching specifically to each student based on his/her musical preferences, abilities and learning style. I can teach all styles of music including: Pop, Rock, Blues, Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, many different Latin styles including Salsa, B
olero and Bossa Nova.
I have performed all over the US and toured many countries including Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, England and France. I have recorded more than 100 CDs for many artists (as well as my own original music) as a pianist/keyboardist, singer, guitarist and music producer. I have won many awards including most recently the Best Blues Band award as the pianist, guitarist and singer for the Lionel Young Band at the International Blues Challenge (the largest competition of blues bands in the world).
I have taught music through my whole career. Many of my students have gone on to study music as a career and have become successful professional musicians.
I am very comfortable teaching all levels from professional musicians to very beginners at any age.
I currently lead and perform with my group. We perform concerts, private events and some club work. My life as a professional musician has given me a lot of knowledge to share with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
I adjust my approach based on what you want to learn, always with an emphasis on learning as much as possible while making the lessons fun and enjoyable. If you are a beginning piano/keyboard or guitar student I can teach you the basics of how to read music and how to play chords in the first few months and then we can decide whether you are interested in playing written music or more improvisational styles. I use different method books depending on the student and sometimes I use just my teaching materials if you are only interested in improvisational styles like Rock or Blues guitar or piano (for example). If you are a voice student, I teach with a combination of learning songs you like and using a CD/MP3s of vocal exercises that help develop good vocal technique. Whatever your instrument and musical preference you can be sure we'll have fun and you'll be making music from the very start!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Yamaha upright piano and keyboards. I have acoustic and electric guitars, bass and amps. I have Shure Sm-58 mics to teach microphone technique with.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student must have his/her own instrument and metronome (or equivalent) must purchase course book(s) if needed..

*** Specialties ***
I teach different styles depending on the students goals. I can teach a traditional classical style for those interested in classical music and I can teach more practical approaches for popular music such as learning by chords (for instrumental students- not voice obviously) and learning improvisation through scales, arpeggios and music theory.

On top of being a great piano, voice, and guitar teacher, Ricardo is a brilliant musician with a varied and rich musical history. I came to Ricardo looking to improve on my classical piano skills, and ended up learning blues piano and some great techniques for learning how to play popular songs on the piano. He also helped me with voice and guitar.

I found Ricardo's lessons to be engaging, mentally stimulating, challenging, and fun. When I was playing blues piano, he would jam along with me on the guitar to help me get better at playing with others, and not just solo. He did the same thing for me when teaching me on the guitar as well, it was a blast! He pushed me to be a better musician in general - I came to him with a very narrow focus and he broadened my musical horizons. Thank you Ricardo for helping me become a better piano player, vocalist, and guitar player!

Offering lessons to all levels, in all genres and styles!
Lessons are catered to the individual student based on their goals and learning styles.
I have special experience and success in working with older students who struggle with tension and pain while playing piano.
I also make it my #1 goal to make music lessons fun and enjoyable! I have never had a student (young or old) complain because they didn't enjoy the lessons.

About Kit
With 2 degrees in music and more than 8 years of teaching experience, I offer piano and voice lessons to any age and any level! I consider the most important aspect of teaching to be creating an environment where a love of music can be discovered and nurtured. Everyone is offered the opportunity to discover and deepen their love of music. I chose to make music my career so that I can guide you on your priceless journey towards becoming a better musician...a better person.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do not use one set curriculum. Instead, I have familiarized myself with a dozen various curriculum, and choose the best fit for each individual student. I am open to using books you already own as supplemental material and encourage students to share their suggestions in selecting music. Every student has different goals, and I tailor t
he lessons to meet them.
Within the first lesson, we will set short and long term goals and lesson plans will be made to help you achieve them.
I provide accompaniment and melody recordings for vocal students to practice with.
Material will be sent home with you to peruse at your convenience. This will include articles from music dictionaries, archives, journals and more to give you an opportunity to become a well rounded musician.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano in living room with waiting area for parents so they may sit in on lessons.
Music stand provided for voice lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Some music may be provided by myself and I am also willing to work with certain books the student may already own. There will be at least one book required for purchase. I expect students to have a pencil and notebook at every lesson.
Water is welcome and encouraged for vocal students.

Parking is available on the street directly outside the studio.

*** Specialties ***
Too often I have seen damage caused to the vocal chords from an instructor's lack of knowledge in developing voices. I am proud to offer voice lessons where I specialize in working with young voices that are still maturing!

I provide piano accompaniment for vocal lessons at no additional cost. I also make accompaniment recordings for the students to practice with. This allows me to transpose songs, letting students learn songs that might otherwise be out of their vocal range. It also allows for flexibility in the tempo so students can learn at a slower pace and increase speed as they become more comfortable.

I believe in teaching a well rounded curriculum and therefore introduce my students to the styles of all genres.

I am a 67 yo man who had studied music eons ago. I finally admitted that I missed it and decided to take lessons for the piano. Kit has been an exceptional instructor. She is very knowledgeable and talented. She teaches by guiding me along the way at my own pace. But is not adverse to correcting my errors. She also sends me home with advice on pitfalls to avoid in my practicing. She is patient, friendly, and makes learning very enjoyable. I highly recommend her for piano lessons to students of all ages. Thank you

Only a 1st lesson, but Kit is great with my Daughter. She had 2 months of piano lessons 4 years ago (when she was 8), but picked it up very quickly and was playing songs almost immediately with Kit as her instructor. The sign that it was a success is that upon returning home she went to the keyboard and wanted to practice what she had learned. Highly recommended.

I cannot speak highly enough about Kit! For my wedding, I wanted to surprise Ashleigh by singing a particular song. Not only had I never had singing lessons, but I also had zero confidence in my voice that I could pull this off. Kit is SO PATIENT! She took the time to tailor my lessons to help me learn the song, and weekly tips. She also went out of her way to work with my schedule, since my lessons had to be a secret since it was for a surprise.
When the night of our wedding came along, Kit's patience and teaching paid off- I was confident and comfortable, which made the experience memorable and fun!! It was a part of our wedding we will both always cherish. Thank you very much Kit!!!

Shortly after my 37th birthday, I decided I wanted to learn to play piano. Although I hadn't touched a musical instrument in over 20 years and forgotten a vast majority of what I had learned as a child, Ruth was there to coach me through the process. She's incredibly knowledgeable about music, shown flexibility when I've had scheduling conflicts, and genuinely cares about my progress. She's been instrumental (pun intended!) in my musical journey and I can't say enough great things about her. Thank you, Ruth!

I play classical, jazz, rock, funk, blues and pop music on the piano. Also, I have improvised musicals on the piano with improv comedy troupes (this is super fun and I would love to teach you how).

In lessons, I focus on learning the proper finger technique and hand placement, good posture, and of course learning how to read music. I can show you lots of different styles of piano playing and help you improve whatever style of playing you're pursuing.

About Tony
I studied Voice Performance at the University of Denver, earning my Bachelors of Music in 2011. I've been teaching voice, piano, composition, song writing, and music theory for 8 years to students of all ages. Teaching is one of my greatest joys as a professional musician, and I hope to share that joy with you!

I focus on three principles in every lesson I teach: be aware, be creative, and be efficient. As awareness increases, seemingly contradictory ideas become complimentary; as creativity develops, we laugh and smile on the journey towards musical fluency; when we think and practice efficiently, we realize we're capable of far more than we thought.

Tony has been my kids' piano teacher for three years now, and we have nothing but great things to say. When he started with us my daughter was almost 5, and he's taught her for 3 years, and has taught my younger son (now age 6.5) for about 2+ years.

First off, my kids LOVE Tony. They are excited for their lessons every week and really enjoy their time with him. They really enjoy playing piano and have made really great progress with Tony as their teacher. Tony is great at teaching them the fundamentals while also working with their specific interests to help motivate them and keep things really fun (my son wanted to learn an Imagine Dragons song and Tony didn't miss a beat!) He's fun, passionate, great at working with different personalities and ages, and overall a fantastic teacher. Highly highly recommend!

About David
Hi! My name is David and I love to teach piano. Music is my favorite thing ever. Performing, accompanying, teaching, listening, anything with music, I'm in hog heaven. Every kind, any genre. I love 'em all, yes, even country.

I teach both pop styles (rock, r&b, jazz, etc.) and classical (Debussy, Beethoven, Bartok, etc.). If you just want to learn some keyboard skills together with theory (like for producing) but you're not interested in necessarily *reading* music, I'm one of the few piano teachers that's ready, willing, and able to teach you how to play without tying everything to musical notation. Or, I can teach you to rock some Shostakovich. Or accompany your choir. Or write songs. I have no agenda other than helping you grow as a musician. What path that takes is entirely up to you.

I'm a caring and empathetic teac
her, and I make learning fun! Questions? Please ask!

Choose which route you'd like to go, or mix them up to accomplish your unique goals!

She understands there are many routes to learning music and wants to teach the way you want to learn. Begin your journey with a method book; study your favorite artists; learn how to create songs; discover improvising (this does not exclusively apply to jazz!); become a better sight reader; learn from the classics; learn from Hip-Hop; you get the idea. I want you to learn what you want to learn! Choose any of these routes via voice and/or piano and together we'll make you the musician you've always dreamed of becoming! 😄🎵🎹🎤🙌🏼

I base the lessons on what my students want to learn and are interested in. I want my students to have fun while learning to play the piano and learning to read music. I want my students to enjoy learning the piano so I let them chose the songs they want to learn. I have three binders full of popular and well known songs for students to chose from. I believe that music is not only enriching for the soul but also a life enhancement that builds confidence, self-discipline, and problem-solving skills for people of all ages. I always strive to be inclusive, patient, playful, and flexible, thus creating a safe and welcoming learning environment that supports each students’ individual self-expression.

Each lesson will incorporate ear training, theory, sight reading, practice tools, composition, and improvisation – skills that endure for a lifetime.

Learning any skill requires patience and discipline. I require all students to practice thirty minutes a day which you'll be tracking in your practice and goal journal. The type of practicing depends on what you seek to accomplish. Invest in yourself by earning a little every day, and you will always see improvement.

About Katherine
Hello, and thank you for our interest in music lessons!

I've been playing piano since age eight, and teaching for over ten years. I love teaching teens and adults who are interested in writing their own music, but have experience teaching children as young as three years of age. My passion for piano shows through my own compositions, and I love exploring the meaning of life through music. I've recently released a full album of avant-pop piano songs called "Blind Opening" and am excited to get back into teaching music after a brief hiatus during the album completion.

Even before my exposure to piano at age eight, I've enjoyed my own form of composing by dictating the sounds I imagined in my head on paper. My initial inspiration to compose music on piano came from the movie “The Changeling” starring George C. Scott. The film’s superna
tural plot, based off of a ghost story that took place in Denver (but was portrayed in Seattle in the film about a composer haunted by tragedy), first drew me in to the idea of working to become a pianist composer. It also called upon my belief that music is a way of connecting with otherworldly entities and experiences. I've been defining and honing my composition style and skill while paving my creative direction since my conservatory studies. Aside from solo music work, I also draw, create stop-animation videos, paint, sculpt, and write poetry - much of it inspired by my favorite composers, Star Trek, and the great outdoors.
