John is a fantastic instructor. He has a love for educating others on musical expression and he is a wellspring of musical knowledge. He provides a depth to the piano that I wouldn't have noticed if I taught myself how to play.

John emphasized how to shape musical phrases to make music as opposed to a collection of notes. He had a good ear for honing in on my weaknesses such as how some notes that I played stuck out or the movement of my arms. Most importantly, he taught me how to approach practicing the piano in an effective way. I learned how to listen to myself and how give each note, phrase, and piece the attention and musicality it needed to sound beautifully.

For an adult learner as myself, he was accommodating with how busy I was. He adjusted to my needs and work schedule and taught at a reasonable pace. However, he also never veered from his expectations and praised what I was doing right and provided methods to fix what I was doing wrong.

Although there were times when John expressed his passion for music by delving into tangents on the broader historical significance of pieces, his mini-lectures were never irrelevant nor inappropriate. For example, he commented on how in waltzes, the rhythm on the left hand would need to emulate how a Romantic era string section would play it. For anyone who is serious about how or why pieces of music are meant to be played in a certain way, John is great about contextualizing pieces to make them sound great.

Most importantly, he made practicing piano something that was both enjoyable and challenging, which is difficult to find in a teacher. I owe a great deal of my musicianship to John and he met my expectations of learning the piano. Thank you!
Kenny

What you'll expect is a mix of sight reading, technique learning and playing, book performance and improvisation by ear for each lesson in the style the student wishes to learn about. If needed, I also write individual exercises tailored to each student and their practice routine. I teach them all of the major, minor and modal scales, chords, arpeggios, proper hand positioning and fingering. I teach many ages, especially beginners up to level 5 in piano levels.

I could not be happier with the lessons Melanie is giving to my grandson. He is on the autism spectrum and she has really connected with him and made a positive impact on his life! He has come so far musically and has astounded me with his progress. Thanks to Melanie, he has a passion for music now and practices all the time, even when he's supposed to be doing his chores. Lol

Melanie was amazing. I knew that certain chords sounded good together but I didn't know why. She taught me the "why's" & explained music theory in a way I could understand. She is super patient & encouraging! I couldn't believe how fast I learned to play. I really owe her a debt of gratitude.

"Gabrielle has a really fun personality, which only helps to compliment her piano skill. Not only that, but she is very flexible on scheduling, and understands that things can come up from time to time for either the student or the teacher. With this expectation in mind, her lessons really make the most of the 30 minutes allotted, and her skills show as she helps you step through each measure. I've taken piano lessons before, quite some time ago, and Gabrielle was quickly able to adapt the lesson to what I already knew versus what I had to re-learn or learn for the first time. Definitely recommend!"

"Folks, I'm excited to write this review for a true master in piano pedagogy and so many other skills! Howard is worthy of the title! In all my years that I have taken lessons from teacher at universities and privately, I've never come across someone with the genius and in-depth philosophy that Howard has. You may think this may be some fluff to help a guy out but my words will still not be enough to quantify the abilities of this man! I went from having severe arthritis in my wrists from playing with terrible technique to never having problems again and experiencing a huge leap in my playing abilities!

If you want to experience a paradigm shift in your playing, get ready to open yourself to a new way of thinking and playing that will lift you up! If your attitude to learn matches Howard's abilities to teach you will not believe the progress you will make. Its true what they say, when you are ready the master will come! I hope you are ready because Howard is the real deal!!!

Enjoy your paradigm shift!!!"

"Morgan started teaching my daughter beginner piano back in 2016 when she was 5 years old. A funny thing happened about a year into lessons. My wife and I had taken a video of our daughter playing the piano and we showed it to some friends. Turns out these friends know someone on the board of the Juilliard School, and when this person saw the video they reached out to my wife and I and said that they were going to recommend our daughter to a colleague of theirs at the Colburn School here in Los Angeles. So now my daughter is enrolled in a world-class performing arts school lol. Granted, my daughter is very enthusiastic about music and she puts the time in, but Morgan steers the ship in a great way. We're super grateful for this dude."
