I love to teach beginners, intermediate players and advanced players. I am comfortable if you or your child know absolutely nothing about music. We will work with scales and chords at every lesson and progress through music that is appropriate to the students skill level. I like for students to have fun too!

About Claire
I've been teaching piano, cello, voice and theory in Los Angeles for over thirty years, helping students develop their particular interests in music and to encourage them to reach their personal goals. I love the classics and many of my students want to play popular music, contemporary sounds and jazz and that is fine too. I received my BA in music at UCLA and a Master's at Cal State Northridge. I conduct vocal and bell choirs, run a concert series, play chamber music, sing in a band and teach in the Community College District in addition to running my private studio.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students work on technical skills such as playing scales and chords at the beginning of each lesson since these are the building blocks of the music we wish to play. I expect students to practice but I understand that life is complicated and som
e days that may mean you only have ten minutes. I try to explain that a little bit every day will help you become a better player rather than working for two hours the day before a lesson. I have lots of good books that I assign that have fun materials with strong melodies. I design everyone's program according to their desires. After a half year, a beginning piano student might expect to be able to play the three essential chords ( the ones that harmonize so many songs) while playing the melody in the other hand. Cellists can expect to be able to play at least four scales, some in two octaves, and understand the notes in the first position within six months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Room for parents to wait, dedicated music space, Yamaha piano, great acoustics for singing

I am 43 years old and was scared to take on such a difficult instrument but I really wanted to learn how to play the beautiful cello. I had my first lesson and am very happy with Claire. She is friendly, accommodating, patient, and explains her lesson in a clear and easy manner (as easy as you can get with the cello). I had a lot of questions and she was very open in answering all of them. Although I am still at the very very beginnings of my journey, I am very excited to continue with the cello lessons, thanks to Claire.

The first lesson was excellent. I completed my first private cello lesson since playing about 44 years ago. It was wonderful. The teacher is very organized and very nice. I thought maybe the lesson would be a lesson of remembering what I had forgotten from so long ago, but I actually learned new things. I'm excited to attend the next lesson.

We will learn the basic finger techniques relative to playing as well as songs and general theory.

About Azuri
Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.

Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. I love sharing knowledge and I hope to elevate yours as a st
udent.

Teaching Philosophy -

My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment.
Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.

I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.

I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.

I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.

HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.

I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.

I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.

I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.

-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.

-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.

-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed

-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.

Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.

Hello future piano students -- welcome!!

Piano is a great starter instrument and you will always sound great on it! Classes begin with introduction to proper hand positions, posture, and placement. Note reading along with proper technique is emphasized. We gradually introduce both hands as we gain more confidence and facility in note-reading.

Basic harmony and theory is also discussed while exploring various styles such as classical, pop, rock, and jazz.

About Nicolas
Hello there, future string players and welcome to my profile!!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2
years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Nick is really a great violin teacher. Our son was playing violin in school orchestra, but we decided to also supplement with private lessons and we're glad we found Nick on here. We have been coming to Nick's home studio for about a year now. Nick keeps our son engaged and continually interested in practicing during his lessons. He's patient, sometimes funny when our son needs a laugh, and ensures our son stays on task, as he can be a handful sometimes. We would whole-heartedly recommend Nick as a violin teacher.

Students can opt for traditional style learning using one of the popular piano methods of study to tackle the technical, theoretical knowledge, and sight readings skills necessary to become a great pianist.

Students that have already tried this approach and either found success or failure may also decide to learn with a custom tailored approach which mainly focusses on improvisation techniques, and learning by ear. Students are guided toward developing good musicianship whether choosing to focus on jazz, classical, gospel and blues, or pop and rock styles of playing.

About Paul
I am a firm believer in the power of music to heal, entertain, and teach. It is our first and most vital universal human language and as such, I believe we all have the ability to learn how to communicate beautifully with music to express our deepest feelings. As a teacher it is my privilege and pleasure to help you develop.

From classical violin to jazz piano my early musical education not only spanned genres and instruments but also geographically from Austin Texas to Madison Wisconsin and finally brought me to Los Angeles where I currently reside and produce and teach music professionally.

Helping you or your child reach your musical dreams in a friendly-nurturing environment is my sincere desire and obligation as your teacher. Discipline is required and to be expected, however, an overly rigid or demanding routine can do mo
re harm than good. I believe attention must be paid to individual learning styles. Therefore, as a teacher I have learned to observe carefully at first and custom tailor a practice routine with each student aimed at achieving their goals. I believe the study of music helps foster a deep level of self-confidence and self realization, which eventually leads the student to discover a portion of himself he would otherwise never know. My goal is to inspire others with this joy, which is everyone's birthright and an important key in finding happiness.

A gifted singer-songwriter of Pop, Rock, World and Reggae songs that possess that timeless quality. He has recorded with 2 time Grammy nominated producer Barry Goldberg (Eagles, Robbie Robertson, Verve Pipe, Marilyn Manson). He has released three CDs, had songs featured in compilations and in feature length film, toured North America, and taught guitar, piano, and voice both privately and in an all ages Montessori school in Santa Monica. He consistently played in a variety of bands while earning an A.A. in music from SMC and later a B.A. in Ethnomusicology from UCLA, where he earned distinction as an excellent student both academically and in musical performance. He brought passion to his performances with legends, Fransisco Aguabellas Afro Cuban ensemble, Brazilian Batucada ensemble, African-American gospel choir, music and dance of Ghana, and the Balinese Gamelan ensemble. As a member of several original LA bands, (Las Manchas, Samson Simpson, Toussaint, Mentone, Cloth and Spicy Fernandez) he has performed at world famous venues and toured North America. He co-wrote and co-produced the first EP records by Samson Simson with Ronen Navah, and also co-produced Mentone's first full-length record, "Empire" with Ronen Navah and Aki Ehara" Currently he is developing his new band, Spicy Fernandez, which has released a few singles on the internet and is getting a good buzz from Industry heavy weights.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe in custom tailoring a curriculum to fit the students needs, while still providing them with the same basic tools all musicians need to develop in order to play well (both with themselves and with others). Obviously, some students require more structure and discipline, while others have a stronger work ethic. Some may even need a teacher that is more laid back to balance them out, but more so my job is to facilitate learning and guide. A student studying with me can expect to receive a general assessment of their skill level in musicianship, theory, and on their instrument within the first couple of lessons (or once I feel that I have experienced enough of their abilities). Based on that assessment, I will work with the student to develop a plan of small goals to work toward. Progress will be monitored weekly and larger goals will unfold naturally in accord with the students own dreams and musical ambitions. Within 3 to 6 months of study with me students will learn to play a range of simple songs, basic scales, exercises, finger positions, and have a solid foundation for listening to, and playing to rhythm.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full acoustic upright, Wurlizter electric piano, and keyboard synths, a computer based digital audio workstation...guitars...percussion...in the front room of my house. Has a full set-up for a band.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide copies of some sheet music, a library of music books, percussion instruments, digital recordings of lessons.
I expect that they provide their own instrument, pencil, notebook, 3-ring binder for sheet music, stereo/mp3 player, CD player, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I excel at popular music genres such as pop, blues, R&B, rock, and jazz. I am also trained classically and enjoy the challenges of standard repertoire from Bach to Chopin.
I began studying music as a student of the Suzuki method. However, today I find that my own practice resembles most closely, the Kodály, Dalcroze, and Orff-Schulwerk methodologies in philosophy and application.

Paul is very talented and, a very good and patient teacher. He is prepared for the class even before you arrive at his place, and communicates his thoughts very clearly. He is ready for a challenge if you give him a random song which you wanted to practice, and he begins to play the song on the guitar without any tabs or notes, instead just by listening to it a couple of times.

He's great to work with, and I'd choose him as my guitar teacher again if I ever live in the surrounding area.

About Adriane
For as long as I can remember, music has played a large part in my life. By the age ten, I already knew that music would be more than just a hobby for me, it would become my career. I have been singing for over 20 years, and began playing piano when I was eight years old. I received a BS in music industry studies with an emphasis on business, from the University of Colorado Denver in 2008. I have extensive experience in performance and the music industry as a business, and have had the pleasure of experiencing the local music scene first hand while playing in bands. My years of experience enables my students to learn different aspects of music from the fundamentals, to writing, and even the music industry as a business. Students should expect to quickly grasp the basic skills such as proper breathing and posture, and will start singing or
playing right away. I truly enjoy sharing my love of music and the industry with my students.

I always cater my instruction method towards a student's specific needs. Beginners will usually progress through a series of books to help them improve performance technique and grasp the fundamentals of music theory. We then move on to practicing more focused repertoire, which may include anything from Bach and Beethoven to The Beatles and Ben Folds, depending on the student's interests. My goal is always to give the student a set of tools that will allow them to adapt to any style of music.

About Steven
I consider myself dedicated to two passions in life: the art of musical creation, and the joy of kindling that spark in others. I've been teaching private music lessons for the past five years, and have worked with students of many different ages and proficiency levels. I am always on the lookout to work with new people who are just as excited about creating music as I am! My musical career began fifteen years ago as a classically-trained pianist, and soon after began to expand to more contemporary styles such as rock, pop, jazz, and electronic. I spent four years at the University of Miami studying under Academy Award nominee Chris Boardman, and graduated with a degree in Music Composition & Production and a double minor in Music Business and Creative American Music. I currently reside in Los Angeles, where I write and produce music for
films, TV shows, and video games. I look forward to meeting you and starting our musical journey together!

I am a classical trained pianist and I have been teaching music since my 2nd year of college in the Boston Conservatory. Combining music appreciation/basic theory with piano playing is the signature of my piano lessons! I believe that piano lessons do not mean only practicing but more importantly, you really need to listen and know and enjoy the music. Therefore besides regular piano learning, students will be introduced well-known music repertoire with famous composers' stories(usually 5-10 minutes each lesson), which I think is the key to fall in love with music!

My teaching subjects include Piano Playing, Music Theory, Ear Training(via games!), Music Appreciation for beginners and Harmony and Counterpoint, Form Analysis and Music History for advanced students.

About April
April Chung is a young Taiwanese pianist who has performed in many countries. She began to play the piano at the age of four and gave her first performance at the age of seven. Her recent performances include solo recitals in Boston and Los Angeles, piano concertos at the Perugia Festival in Italy, as well as chamber concerts in Luxemburg. She has also performed as a soloist in Salzburg, Austria and Taipei, Taiwan.

Besides performing, Ms. Chung enjoys teaching music. Her students include all ages and the subjects range from piano playing to music theory, harmony and counterpoint, ear training, form and analysis, as well as music appreciation.

Ms. Chung holds a Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California under the studios of Professor Bernadene Blaha and Professor Daniel Pollack. Ms. Chun
g also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee under the instruction of Professor YaFei Chuang.

With a very warm and friendly personality, Ms. April always gives positive energy to her students. She is very caring, encouraging and she expects her students to bring out their best to the lessons. Her students love her fun and true music stories, which give them strong motivation to practice.

I've been taking lessons with Ms. April Chung for a couple months. I had not played the piano since high school, and was hoping to pick up the old habit. Lessons with Ms. Chung has been pleasant, efficient, and very informative. I am very impressed (or shall we say surprised?) in how fast my techniques improved over the short period of time. I was able to put together a solid Chopin piece in good shape over a few weeks. I especially admire April's tips for self-practicing, and her balanced focus on both basic skills and musical expressiveness. I highly recommend anyone, with different experience and age, to work with Ms. Chung and learn to enjoy playing the piano.

I started piano at 4 and never looked back. I am well versed in everything from early note reading, to late romantic sonatas, jazz standards and improvisation. Whatever level you're at, I can help.

About Marshall
Hi, I'm Marshall. I was born into a family of actors, artists, and musicians and was raised on the stage of the Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga, California, a family-run theater. I started music lessons at four on piano and later began cello at twelve. As a middle and high school student, I played with community orchestras throughout Los Angeles, and after graduation from the Hamilton Academy of Music, went on to study at Cal State University, Northridge, double majoring in cello and English literature. I afterwards moved to Germany for almost a decade, studying in Trossingen, Mannheim, and Berlin, resulting in a lot of great teachers, masterclasses and performance opportunities. After recently moving back to Los Angeles, I work as an assistant to a number of different Film/TV composers here in LA as well as playing orchestra and doing st
udio work whenever I can. It's about time for some cello lessons though, wouldn't you say?

I wanted to improve my piano skills (I'm an actor- it comes in handy). So far, I've had about ten lessons with Marshall at his studio in Topanga, and I'm already so much more confident. We started out reviewing what I knew- scales, arpeggios, etc, and now we are on to full pieces (Chopin, Mozart) and sight-reading skills. Marshall is AWESOME and has a great sense of humor. Super happy to have found him.

Marshall is such a delight! My ten-year-old son has been studying cello with Marshall for the last year and has no plans of stopping. I couldn't be happier with this find. Marshall is very nurturing but also sets clear strong goals, and my son now has a much more effective at-home practice strategy. Marshall's studio is also wonderful for me- it has an outdoor garden where I can sit and read or do work during my son's lesson.

Number one is we always have fun, though we do a lot of hard work too! Lessons are split between technical/theoretical music study, and live performance practice. Emphasis is on gaining skills in coordination and dexterity, understanding the theory behind compositions, and finding individual expression with each piece. Technique exercises follow the Dozen A Day series; Lessons, Sight-Reading, and Theory from Faber & Faber; skills are applied to a performance song of the students' choosing. Students generally select a song at their level in either Classical, Jazz or Contemporary style. All students are required to practice at least 5 mins a day, every day. Each performance piece is later performed live in concert.

Firstly, Jameson is not a voice teacher for money. I do not know anyone who genuinely loves music and singing more than him. Jameson's passion for performing is evident from the moment you meet him. His rates are very reasonable considering the top-notch quality of the lessons. He focuses on the fundamentals of releasing your authentic voice rather than specialized techniques to mimic other performers. He listens carefully to your thoughts and feelings throughout each lesson, adjusting accordingly. He challenges you to express how your body is working with your vocals after each try so that you are able to be aware of your voice outside of lessons as well. He ensures that the lesson is fun and fast-paced so that you can feel great strides in vocal improvement with each time.
Thanks to Jameson, my voice has been freed. I sing strongly, with control, and with passion any chance I get. The confidence Jameson has giving me in my singing voice is quite honestly, priceless.

"Jameson is incredible. During my junior year of high school I was not selected for the All State Choir and it devastated me. Jameson was a fairly new vocal teacher in the area and was so accommodating to me when I reached out. Under his guidance I was able to further my confidence as a singer and a performer. Jameson's focused optimism really drove me to push myself. I am so thankful for my time with him and I would recommend him to any student who is ready for the "next step" but isn't quite sure where to go."

"Before Jameson, I had tried out a few other vocal coaches that worked for semi large companies. These vocal coaches only focused on making each individual song sound good, but didn’t actually help me improve my voice at all. This wasn’t what I was looking for. However, my first lesson with Jameson was eye opening. I remember on the very first day he got me to come out of my shell and make my voice do things it hadn’t done before! I remember being amazed at the vocal range that Jameson helped me uncover and the different ways to help give my breath support; allowing my vocal chords to resonate smoothly and on key. Not only did he give me coaching in both pop and classical, but he gave me confidence in my voice and many opportunities to showcase what I had learned.
Other than the concerts that Jameson sets up himself, he also gave me an opportunity to try out for The Voice. This experience was one of a kind! It was a several day experience where me and a select few other people came to the Tabor Studio and worked on our songs together with multiple coaches to critique our voices so that we would improve for the following day when we actually got to professionally record the songs that we practiced to send to the voice! In addition to this, Jameson helped me place top 10 in the final for Portland Teen Idol, which hosted a few hundred singers. All in all, I regret nothing about my relationship with Jameson. If someone was looking for a vocal coach, Jameson Tabor would be the first person that I would point to."
