I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. Not just how to play the instrument but working on ...

As with all of my lessons, I provide a core curriculum as well as customizing to the student's needs and interest. From the foundations of technique to musical fluency and interpretation, I guide my students through the process of building freedom and confidence as well-rounded musicians. Mastering the instrument physically is as important as having a personal, emotional connection to the music we play, and understanding the workings of musical communication allows us to create those magical moments for ourselves and our listeners. Through my studies with renowned pedagogues such as Areta Zhulla and Joel Krosnick of the Juilliard Quartet, chamber music guru Merry Peckham, and world-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman, I've developed a unique method for acquiring both effortless technique and the tools to make sense of any piece of music. I believe that every student can make incredible leaps in their musical ability as they discover their own powers of examination, exploration, and determination.

I have extensive experience with classical as well as contemporary music theory, history, and ...

Daniel is the best! His love for music is infectious and I feel so lucky to have found him. He is patient and supportive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable and not to mention a brilliant cellist, which goes without saying. 10/10 recommend him for anything.

Daniel has been teaching my 12 year old daughter cello for the last 3 years. He is a very attentive and patient teacher, with an excellent approach to his students. My daughter loves to go to his lessons, and has even enjoyed the Zoom lessons with Daniel over the last year. He has a lot of musical knowledge and has a delightful personality. I highly recommend him.

Daniel is an amazing teacher! I have been taking cello lessons from him for the last 5 years. I'm an older student (41 y.o), and started out with little musical experience and only a dream to play the cello. Daniel is so patient and supportive, with the most pleasant demeanor you can imagine. His musical knowledge runs deep, and his eclectic approach to playing and teaching the cello touches on a variety of musical genres, including classical, jazz, folk, and other styles. With his natural talent for teaching, Daniel is very sensitive to my stumbling blocks and difficulties in the lessons, and is so helpful with his clear instructions in how to break down and solve the problems. Most of all, his lessons and wisdom are very inspiring, and I am always looking forward to our next meeting. I wholeheartedly recommend Daniel as a music teacher.

"Jessica is forever patient with us and our techie issues. She is a great teacher as well, and has helped my 8th grader love playing her cello! She keeps things moving, while also paying attention to those little details that make all the difference in performance, like bow hold, fingerings, length of up bow and down bow, and many other little things. Thank you again, Jessica!"

She not only inspires the students, pay much attention on the position and minor stuff in the very beginning to remain a good habit, but also very well organized post-lesson follow up with detailed guide for the practice between the lessons.

What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …

What Does it Take to Become a Professional Cello Player?

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this. There are many paths to becoming a professional cello player, and depending on where you start it might be easy or hard to earn a reputation and start making money. I followed an academic path, studying classical music at university and then continuing my research …
