We'll work on material of your choosing or material provided by me. We'll find your "type" (very important in the business!) and then begin working on acing those kinds of roles. I'll also teach you the business side and how to "increase your value" as an actor.

I've been acting since I was a child, and in Los Angeles for over 10 years. I'm an award-winning actor and director with a true passion for storytelling. I've been in films on Amazon Prime (Something, House of Manson) on Television on the Lifetime Network (My Crazy Ex), and in many Theatre shows(Proof, Down the Road, Savage Love).

I have a BA in Acting from The Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University, am a graduate of the two-year Meisner program at DBA studio, and have studied Audition Technique, Stanislavski, Scene Study, Improv, Perfecting Self-Tapes, and in a Master Class for years. As a filmmaker who cast, wrote, and directed the short 'There's No Word for Us', I also have experience on the other side ...

Hello! I'm Dax L., As a coach, my approach is kind, down to earth, and non-judgemental, but I make sure to give constructive criticism because without it, you cannot and will not improve. I have studied with a wide array of different acting coaches. I am also a producer, director, and screenwriter. Now having finally had the privilege of being the casting director for the film I produced, I have invaluable knowledge to share with you on what to do and what not to do when auditioning (both self-tapes and in person) if you choose to make one of our lessons an industry coaching lesson. For acting coaching, I have helped actors have that "WOW it finally makes sense" moment, where they understand what they had been lacking all along.. unpredictability! In my opinion, the things an actor needs to do to stand out in an audition is be unpredictable, believable, and fully focused. I am super excited to team up with TakeLessons and I hope to be your new coach!

Side note: If you need both ...

I coach students on their monologues so they can improve their auditions and self-tapes. I help them with monologue selection if needed, monologue breakdown, character breakdown, performance techniques, exercises, and much more. My students leave with not only an incredible monologue for auditions, but also a more in-depth understanding of acting and character work.

The theater techniques I use to teach acting and coach monologues include: Stanislavski, Meisner, Uta Hagen, and Michael Chekhov. I promote a positive and safe environment for actors to explore their character and creativity.

About Julia

Welcome! My name is Julia, and I'm an actor, director, and teaching artist from Philadelphia, PA. I hold a degree in theatre and acting from Temple University, where I was trained by professional actors in the industry such as Amina Robinson (Precious, 2009) and Cheryl Williams (Silver Linings Pl

Julia has been helping me with my acting for a little while now and I already can see my own improvement! She always gives me tips, pointers and corrections during our time but in a way where I feel supported! Her constructive feedback is always helpful and she is so encouraging when I actually nail a scene. She recently helped me with a self tape and I have to say, with her guidance I think it was my best acting to date! I would highly recommend Julia!

My teenage daughter has been taking online lessons with Julia for months now. She couldn't' be happier. We are so lucky to have found her!

Julia was the best instructor I could have asked for, being that I just started. She helped me understand the process in acting and helped me work on a lot of monologues to get better and find exactly what I want to do. Always punctual and was easy to reschedule if I had any days I couldn't make it. If you're looking for a good teacher to help you and you're just starting or even experienced she's definitely the choice.

Classes will be tailored to the student's level of expertise. In general, the student will decide on the direction the classes. Do you want to work on dialects, stage voice, method acting, on-camera techniques, monologues, audition techniques et.al? There are many directions these classes can move, so when I express a "tailored" approach, you can rely on gaining the specific knowledge and skills you seek.

About Randy

I have always been an actor first, it is the craft and discipline in which I hold my advanced degrees; it is my first and eternal love. There really isn't much more one could add to such a claim. Simultaneously I have believed a teacher is born, not bred; and I was born to be in theatre, and now, wi

First off. Just want to say that we had to cancel our first session. However, I really like this guy because he had kept it real and set it straight on the reason why the session was cancel. He was very sick that day and he didn't want to be involved with the session not being at 100%. Respect! I wouldn't have wanted him not being at his best either. Takes alot of guts for a person to confess that. I really appreciated the honesty because that explains how passionate Randy is about the craft.
Second of all, when we did our first session, I had to deal with a rough technical patch of trying g to join in for the session. He had no problem helping me with this technical glitch rather than allowing TakeLessons (who I was unable to reach because of matainace issues), to handle it. He helped 5he TakeLessons team. A plus Randy! Though I had to finally use another device to finally join the session, Randy was still willing to have patience and help me with the tech problem.
Lastly, Randy brought a warm feeling to the session and yet sincere. He made me feel welcomed, which opened me up more during this session. This helped because I am uncomfortable with improv but want to get better. He understood this and gave a real honest approach. Also, he informed me that we were going to get a gist of my performance level and work from there. Furthermore, we were going to ease our way into improvement. This gave me alot more balance than other improv classes. He is even willing to give me a little homework that I can practice in prep for next week.
Randy is very encouraging and I enjoyed our first session. I'm exited for next week!

How to Handle Rejection as an Actor

One of my college acting professors told us, “if you can’t handle rejection, find another major. Actors are rejected more than they’re cast. You will have to deal with rejection every day; and if you let it get to you, you won’t last long”. Those words stuck with me all these years: not only for their brutal honesty, but also because I wish I had asked her: how do we deal with all this rejection? Fortunately, there are many A-list stars who can tell you stories of how they experie …
