Teaching Style
I believe first and foremost in supporting and developing what musically inspires a student’s decision to study and play music. In order to fully develop control, musicality and understanding of the music language, it is important to focus on several components including music theory (scale and harmonic structure/function and rhythm), style, ear-training, reading and performance skills.

Expectations of Students
Like any aspect of life, consistency and patience are two very important qualities to posses when working towards a goal. The duration of each practice session is proportional to the level of the student. Learning how to practice efficiently with your instrument is key for adherence and success in obtaining your goals.

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

Hello there! My name is J and music has been a part of my life since I was a young kid. I learned to play the piano when I was 8 and never stopped learning since. Eventually, I taught myself how to play the guitar and a whole new world of music opened up for me and I would love to share my knowledge with you in a fun, energetic and creative way. Hope to hear from you soon!

About Jay

Hello Students/Parents, My name is J and I have been playing the piano since Elementary school and the guitar since High School. A piano upbringing instilled in me the core basics of music and music theory. Which eventually led me to teaching myself the guitar; which led to writing my own songs;

Jay is a great teacher for my 9 year old son. My son is learning the basics of guitar and Jay is fun and patient. After just 5 lessons, my son is well on his way to learning his first pop song and he can't wait until his guitar lesson each week.

OMG! Such a great teacher! Jay is VERY patient, accommodating, easy going and overall NICE.

We look forward to having him come to our home to do private lessons with our 8 year old daughter every week.
He speaks her language and knows how to refocus her in such a creative, positive way.

She is learning at an accelerated rate, as Jay is really working to instill the basics so that she has a thorough understanding before moving forward. They do a lot of repetition and recall, and he leaves her with homework that she is happy to work on throughout the week.
We have booked Jay for more classes and will continue to work with him indefinitely!

Thank you for providing us the opportunity to find Jay,Take Lessons! BEST decision ever!

Exceptional teacher of both piano and guitar. Always punctual and maximizes the learning opportunity during lesson time. Connects well with students. Inspires students to be creative and take ownership of the music they are learning. Has a vision for the overall growth of his students. We are fully satisfied with Jay, and we highly recommend him.

I've enjoyed teaching various instruments and apart from the passion for music I have, I enjoy teaching and helping others develop their potential.
I took 4 years of Music Theory based on the Real Books used in Berkeley, and until quite recently I taught in a physical school, where I taught many ages and different disciplines.
I look forward to the fun and convenience of learning together!

About Jesse

Learning an instrument... I don't have anyone in my family who is musically inclined, so motivation was always difficult when I started learning piano. At first you don't see the progress you want, and without someone to keep me to goals and motivate me to practice, it took a long time to get the

This was my first lesson with Oliver. He was very patient, positive, and willing to answer questions. We used a scale exercise to help me gain familiarity with note names and moving my fingers around the fretboard, and then learned a simple bass line for a popular rock song.

"I just had my first lesson with Brett and he customized it according to my individual needs and circumstance. I am passionate about guitar and folk music but have no musical experience. Bretts plan is to start with the very basics and move forward from there. He was very patient with me and his directions were easy to follow. Though I am a senior I feel like I am 20 years old again and learning a new skill. Thanks Brett

"I learnt music theory and improvisation with Charles for 4 months in New York.

Charles is highly approachable and extremely knowledgeable. He walks the perfect line between making his students feel comfortable whilst also pushing them to become better in every single session.

I got a solid grasp of the basics of music theory and was able to fully improvise in different scales at the end of the course. The growth I had was tremendous - all thanks to Charles' guidance.

Charles will take the time to fully understand the needs, goals and struggles of his students. He will be there for them inside and outside of class time because he genuinely cares about music and his students becoming better."
