I love to help students achieve their goals in music! I customize lessons for each student, point out their successes, and share with them how to improve. I have a smart setup with 2 drumsets, headphone monitoring, metronome, play along tracks, and microphones.

Why take lessons?
There is no substitute for one-on-one instruction tailored to fit each student's needs. Imagine having the chance to practice a sport with an Olympic coach! Unlike traditional academic tutoring, lessons are helpful for students who struggle, students in the middle of the pack, and students who excel and need enrichment.

Making music is such an incredible creative outlet and songwriting allows you to bring your own story and individuality to the music that you make. In lessons with me, I will give you the building blocks to expand on your songwriting and create interesting and complex songs. We will work with various accompaniment styles in your instrument of choice to move beyond simple chords and structures. We will use music theory to understand how to create songs and melodies that work harmoniously and to build upon the base of a loose song structure, and we will learn about lyrical flow and how to create beautiful lyrics that roll off the tongue rhythmically. Once we have built a song from the base up, or if you already have a finished song, then we can work together to analyze it and improve on it through these techniques and create a beautiful finished piece! I also have experience with recording and producing music, so I can teach you to bring your song to fruition in a polished and ...

I am coming to the cello as a brand new beginner. I have play around with some fretted instruments, ukulele, banjo, etc. But Irina was super at getting me relaxed, focused on basics and encouraging me with small, but important mechanics and technical details. I have taken other music lessons like sax, so could compare. I totally enjoyed the start of my cello training.
Oh, btw, I'm retired and over 65!!!

"yesterday was my first vocal lesson with Darrell. he is definitely one cool dude. My first impression is that he is very thorough. I like that we are starting from the ground up learning fundamentals. it is noteworthy that I am blind. I only say this because from the get-go he was open minded to adapt the session where we needed. I look forward to my upcoming lessons."

"Arlys is an amazing teacher and human being. I am 45 and was so afraid of singing as I had been shamed as a 13 year old in choir by the teacher that I ended up only mouthing the songs for the rest of the year and had not sang a lick in public since. I really enjoy singing but my shame and fear of being horrible and off key kept me from singing at parties, holidays and even in front of my husband. I still do not have the courage to sing in front of him yet but heck, this is just lesson 1. Arlys made me feel at ease and taught me that I do have a voice that wants to come out. I feel comfortable with her. She knows how to teach technique as well as theory. She makes it easy to feel comfortable and yearn for more lessons. Can't wait to see her again! It's like a spiritual awakening for me. Thank you Arlys!"

"Laura is a wonderful cello teacher. Our daughter (10 y.o.) has been playing cello for 2 years. We just moved to NYC and needed a cello teacher. We found Laura and our daughter just had her first lesson with Laura. They reviewed skills, practiced pieces, ear training and Laura provided appropriate level workbooks at the end for home practice. Our daughter said "I can't wait to work with Laura again next week." Proof enough for us."
