Wonderful teacher! She was the first private instructor to really understand the way my son learns, and taught him appropriately. He made so much progress under her tutelage. We highly recommend her!

First lesson went great. Brenda started me with the basics and was very patient. Answered all my questions. I feel that I will be off to a good start with Brenda guiding me. PS I’m 53 years old, brand new to cello. I’ve always dreamed of playing.
I used to play French Horn 40 years ago. Bass clef is all new to me.

I originally learned how to play the cello on my own in my school's orchestra. When I went to college and decided to bring my cello with me, I knew it was time to take proper lessons like everyone else. Brenda was able to help me iron out all of the bad habits I had developed over seven years of playing cello with no formal corrections. She clearly cared about me and my interests as a student. I can confidently say Brenda equipped me with the tools, techniques, and attitude I needed to play the cello for the rest of my life.

I love playing and teaching the cello, and I'm so excited to share that with you. I make lessons fun and engaging, and you'll leave feeling positive and focused on progress. I believe that the technique should serve the music, so we'll always focus on creating art and telling a story. Cello playing mirrors life, so what we do in the practice room will have much larger applications than you might anticipate! From beginning students learning the basics to advanced players who need a push in the right direction, I aim to help you improve quickly and have a great time doing so.

My 12 year old son has been taking lessons with Claire online for a couple of months. He had been playing a few years in school but never had an individual lesson. She is helping him create some new habits while improving his technique and musicianship. She is very encouraging and supportive (and fun!). "Best teacher I've had yet - (Adult Student)

I hadn't practiced in a year and got the lessons as a gift. I've been through many teachers and been frustrated by many flakey ones - so this was kind of a last shot - I got lucky.

Caitlin is always professional, on time, and most importantly for a teacher - empathetic.
She's extremely perceptive to my problem areas, and comes up with novel, yet effective, solutions that, as far as I can see, are unique to my situation.

Highly recommended.

"I began cello lessons with JoAnn almost a year ago. This was an instrument I had always wanted to learn, so I bought a good student cello and nervously scheduled my first half hour lesson. Her availability didn't initially work well with my plan to take lessons prior to coming in to my work, but a quick phone call and we worked out a very agreeable schedule.

Eleven months later, our weekly 60 minute lessons are very enjoyable and I am progressing well. JoAnn has been very accommodating with her schedule, last-minute cancellations, and patience. Sometimes I dread my next lesson because I've been too busy to practice or too fatigued from work, but an hour later I leave with a smile on my face and more confidence with my instrument. Hey, this is fun!

I would not hesitate to recommend JoAnn to anyone, especially a busy, working adult. She is a very skilled cellist and teacher, incorporating many lessons from other disciplines into this. While her teaching course has been different than I expected (lots of focus on slow playing and no vibrato yet), I believe my playing is much, much better because of it. In the beginning I had planned on a couple months of weekly lessons. Now a year later, I have no intention of stopping - way too much fun! Thank you JoAnn!"

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
