Acting is all about experiencing what life has to offer. With decades of experience acting in professional and informal roles, I have so much experience to draw upon to help you find what works for you and your dreams of acting. We went with online piano lessons at the moment due to COVID, but I was nervous about the format as the lessons are for my five-year-old daughter, so I was concerned the additional technology would be an impediment. Dr. Merkel was wonderful. He was friendly and encouraging to my daughter, ensuring she knew she could ask any questions she might have at any point. He absolutely made the technology work for us, and my daughter learned more than I would have thought possible in 30 minutes. She is counting down to her next lesson!

Very knowledgeable. My daughter enjoy learning from him.

So far, I have had only one lesson with Dr. M., the only singing lesson I've had in my entire 66 years of a lifetime. My only regret, is that I did not take them sooner. Dr M. is patient, an expert, and motivational. What more could you ask for when working with a teacher. He thinks he can make a singer out of me; I'll have to trust his judgement. It would be awesome, if he achieves our goal.

Looking to start or enhance a career as a voice actor? Just looking for a fun way to become more in tune with your voice and body? I can help guide you to achieve your personal goals.

Using my background in linguistics, singing and acting, I will show you how the human body can produce a wide range of sounds for diverse effects. Voice-over work traditionally centers on animation, but we will discuss different ways of approaching radio, commercial and both child and adult-oriented cartoons for a deeper knowledge and skill set. We will do warm ups that classical singers use as well as analyze other voice artists' work to see what is best for you.

About Matthew

I am a world traveler with over 13 years of tutoring experience. I also have weight trained for about 15 years. Recently received my PhD in sociolinguistics at the University of Pittsburgh, I received my MA in Spanish linguistics from NYU and can help you with many different areas. My experience as

Introduction to Voice Acting: Books & Resources to Check Out

When it comes to the performing arts, voice acting attracts some of the most fiercely dedicated enthusiasts, despite the relative anonymity compared to acting on stage or on screen. In the old days, radio dramas were the most common inspiration for aspiring voice actors. Today, it’s animation. The key component of voice acting, even more than secrecy and seclusion, is versatility. An in-demand voice actor may be called upon to provide the pipes for a cartoon rabbit in a kid's show on Friday, …
