wonderful books for ages 5 through Adult. Also a great way to sing and read music while playing an instrument. Can be taught to read music, may also learn by Tablature. Books can also take in your specific interests, rock, jazz, country, etc.
My studio, since 1993 is located in the back of my house and is in a family friendly location.
As my education originally was music education, elementary and secondary, I have gone on to be certified in teaching adults, both beginning and returning. There is so much piano and vocal educational material geared to the pre-school, the elementary, Jr-Sr high and Adult beginner and I promise we will have fun while learning.....
Anyone can learn an instrument and anyone can learn many different styles. Lessons will be geared toward your interests and goals, which we can work on at your lesson also.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am generally easy going and laid-back and will work with you to obtain specific goals such as a piece you would really like to learn. I can be strict if assignments are not followed or if there is no progression; we need to analyze why that is. I use many teaching methods as there are many different learning styles. The series I am currently using are Faber, Alfred, and Celebrate Piano! for pianists. Many singers are in Broadway, Disney, and/or English Reliquary and Italian Arias. There are so many wonderful choices! I can guarantee after three months you will be playing some music you like, and you will be reading music, and able to perform if you wish (starting small). With singing you will have basic knowledge of proper posture, breathing, and increased range. I also so enjoy people and communicating so you will feel comfortable taking lessons, and I believe that is one major factor of success in learning an instrument: the student-teacher relationship And second for children, especially the young, is the parent-teacher relationship .
*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: Yamaha baby grand piano, Kawaii studio upright and keyboard, Yamaha keyboard, recording abilities, computer software, couch and two chairs, parents can sit in on lesson. Also have computer programs for note learning, composition, as well as giving you apps to download.

Different methods for different students. Piano: mostly Faber and Alfred series. "Prodigy": Aaron/Thompson series. I've also had graduate study in teaching the Adult Beginner! As I was a church music director 1994 till last September, I am very familiar with traditional and contemporary sacred music, learning and performing. -Young kids in voice can expect their lessons to be fun and educational including using visual tools like scarves and shakers, and imaginative play to learn vocal techniques needed to sing on pitch and with proper breathe control.
-Children in piano lessons will learn music theory and piano technique through simple songwriting exercises, theory games, visual tools and more. They will learn about composer's lives and musical styles, providing them with a well-rounded lesson experience.
-Older children and adult singers can expect to learn about their vocal anatomy in order to better control of their voice and become independent during practice sessions at home. They will learn how to improve breathe control, posture and diction. Time during lessons will also be dedicated to developing stage presence and discussing vocal health. Singers will be allowed to select repertoire from the genre of their choice. They can also learn how to harmonize and sight-sing in lessons if they would like.
-I teach beginning guitar students and help them learn how to play with proper technique and accompany themselves when singing. These students learn to read staff and tab and shape different chords on the guitar. I use theory games and visual tools for kids to make lessons fun
-Music theory/composition students will be taught how to read and write music. Students will be invited to improvise on the piano and record their improvisations.They will be taught how to sight-sing in order to learn how to notate any melodies in their head
They will learn how music has changed and been influenced throughout history. They will learn how to read lead sheets and use stylistic invariants in their playing. They will be provided with honest feedback and constructive help on their compositions.They will learn how the human brain processes music and how best to capitalize upon this process for the greatest audience appeal.

I am a Westminster Choir College '11 Alum who graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. I also have my master's degree in music therapy from Drexel University. I am also a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a Board Certified Music Therapist. During my time at school I performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center, and did music therapy work with older adults, as well as disadvantaged children and parents.
I also have my own parent/child music class I host every Thursday September-May. It's never to early to start a music education!
I have been teaching for over four years and now have a studio of more than 70 happy students. Teaching music is my passion, and I love seeing students grow!
I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development. My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

I studied guitar performance at the Berklee College of Music perform currently in a variety of bands and styles. While I'm happy to work with you on whatever you like most, my specialty lies in fingerpicking, blues, ragtime and folk music.

I have spent the past 12 years of my life dedicated to the guitar. While obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Guitar performance at Oberlin Conservatory I was employed by the conservatory's secondary lessons department. This studio featured a diverse mix of college students, adults, and children. In addition I am Suzuki method certified and I was a summer instructor at the Amherst School of Guitar in Buffalo, NY. I have experience working with children from as young as 5 to as old as 65.
While studying with me we will work on many facets of music including technique, sight reading, critical listening, music theory, improvisation, and how to apply these skills to a piece of music to truly express yourself. My goal is to instill a deep understanding of music to my students while letting their individual sensibilities show.
STYLES: I can teach all styles of American music (i.e Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, R&B etc.) as well as classical and fingerstyle.

SUZUKI METHOD: I am trained and certified in the Suzuki Guitar Method and spent 3 years teaching Suzuki in studio with children as young as 5. This involves a significant parent-teacher-student commitment and regularly yields impressive results.
ON TALENT: I agree with Shin-ichi Suzuki that talent is irrelevant and a myth. I believe that the potential of all my students are the same but they come to me with various starting skills levels and all learn at a very different pace. I believe that the myth of “talent” really just means that the individual has had a long exposure to music. This is why I emphasize critical listening in my lessons. If you have a large knowledge of music and sounds in your head it makes it easier to make connections and better assess your ideas.

I have a lot of practical and professional music experience to bring to my lessons, playing with many different bands across many genres. in addition, for my intermediate and advanced students, I accompany them on bass and drums to help them learn to play with other parts of a rhythm section when their goal is to play with other musicians. I'd also say that I take care to craft my teaching to what my students actually want to be able to accomplish, and find ways to teach them not only technique, but theory that is specifically helpful to what they want to be able to do.

All music lessons at WCGA combine solid instruction in music fundamentals with the student’s personal interests and goals. Guitar students will learn chords, scales, terminology, and technique along with note reading, chord progressions, and theory. Teacher duets are common in our lessons to develop listening and timing skills. Our guitar teachers make sure every student understands the fretboard in order to execute challenging melodies and riffs along with chords that are suitable for popular, rock, jazz and other styles of music. My goal with guitar lessons is to help students make the guitar an extension of themselves. We'll focus on learning songs you love and the techniques involved in facilitating ease of play. We'll be rocking out and ripping guitar solos in no time!
Malcolm began studying guitar at the age of nine, started his first rock band by the age of 10, and has been performing ever since. His studies began at the Perkins Center for the Arts and continued with Leighann Narum through the Mason Gross Extension Division. Malcolm then went on to pursue degrees in both Communications and Classical Guitar Performance at Rutgers University/Mason Gross School of the Arts. He continues to study under the guidance of world-renowned guitarist/composer Jorge Caballero.
In addition to classical training, Malcolm is also a seasoned rock musician. Having the experience of playing in rock bands for over 15 years has provided him with a "College of Rock and Roll Knowledge" type of education.
Malcolm has taught over 2,000 lessons with School of Rock, In-Home Music Teachers Philadelphia, and recently joined TakeLessons. He takes pride in helping his students achieve the results they desire by using teaching methods that are both fun and effective. Many of his students have started from scratch and achieved a high level of proficiency in months. No matter your experience, Malcolm looks forward to helping you learn and grow as a musician.

I have been exploring music since 5th grade, and exploring strings(guitar andukulele) for around 14 years. I am more interested in music as a means for personal growth and exploration rather than getting stuck on the technicalities of traditional music .. although music theory is extremely fascinating to me!
As a adult with ADHD, traditional music progress has always been a struggle - short attention and difficulty focusing in long-lengths. Despite this .. learning to make music for myself that both captures my creativity and curiosity, instead of what others wanted to hear has opened up a new appreciation and respect for myself. When dealing with ADHD or other emotional issues is significant boon.
Music is a wonderful tool for moving our emotions out of the hidden spaces within ourselves. As a teacher I am more concerned with helping my students realize the importance and impact of their progress in relation to themselves, rather than the merit of their progress in relation to ...
I approach everything I do with curiosity, because I believe that is when we reveal our selves- the meaning of life is not a question that is asked to us, but rather asked by us.
Why such an emphasis on curiosity?!?! As an adult with ADHD(incessant curiousity) I am working on constantly growing, and I am interested in helping others who struggle with similar issues grow despite the limitations they may perceive as impassable.
When we learn to view our circumstances as an opportunity to explore the world in the unique and novel way- there is a liberation from expectation that allows us to appreciate ourselves in a gentler and more kind way.
