I hold a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in Bilingual/Bicultural Education. Prior to earning my masters degree, I was a bilingual educator for six years. In addition, I have conducted research in language acquisition and math and have been trained using research based learning strategies. I also hold a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked six years in this field.

I work with students all ages. I am available for homework, homeschooling, and enrichment activities. Before meeting with my students, I gather the ne

cessary information in order to create a lesson plan that will meet the student's specific needs. I have extensive experience in curriculum design. My approach to teaching is student-centered. I use a variety of methods to ensure that students are active participants in the learning process and get the most out of instruction.

I have worked with students with special needs including, learning disabled, ADHD and gifted and talented. When planning my lessons, I make sure that the activities included are appropriate for the student and use students feedback in future planning.

My goal is to create a relaxed, open environment where students feel comfortable enough to speak freely and understand that mistakes are a very important part of the learning process!

About Andrew

Hello! I am a happy, silly TEFL certified native English speaker from San Diego, California. A few years ago, I sold everything to travel and have spent the time since then travelling and volunteering in the US, South America, and Europe.

For the past 3 years, I have been working a conversational English tutor, both face-to-face and online (via Skype). The ability to teach online has allowed me to travel and work at the same time, which has been amazing! Now that I've moved to Vilnius, I am interested in having face-to-face lessons again.

My preference is adults who already have a decent understanding of English, at least theoretically, and are more or less conversational but want to improve (e.g. confidence, accent reduction, grammar correction, increase vocabulary, etc.).

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Andy

Andy helped me a lot. He can always find the easiest way to help a student to remember a certain rule or word - that helped me a lot. My English improved tremendously thanks to him, he's a great teacher. Last but not least, conversations with him were always really interesting

Andy is the best English teacher I have ever had! He helped me a lot with grammar and pronunciation issues. Andy loves helping and learning, moreover he inspires his students with his passion for education and language. He can “shift-gears” and he is flexible when a lesson isn’t working. This teacher assesses his teaching throughout the lessons and finds new ways to present material to make sure that every student understands the key concepts. Great teacher!

My son was excited to have a real singer as an instructor, and hasn't stopped bouncing and singing scales since! We're looking forward to growing with Mr. B's help!

I hired Bruno to help me comprehend my book for class. He showed up and genuinely cared that I was getting it. He showed me a note taking idea that to me seemed that if I just wrote a couple of ideas down I’d go back and know where I was as far as going back and studying. He asked if I needed to write this point down and basically showed how to do the job. Great work.

Mr. Barbosa is a very outgoing person who always checks in on his students before we begin the lesson. At the
beginning of the lesson, we start with warm-ups so our voice is
ready to sing high or low notes. When you first start with Mr. Bar-
bosa, he will have you sing multiple songs and scales so he can
learn your vocal range. Mr. Barbosa makes sure that you understand
the content and if you don't, he is helpful and explains it in a way we
can comprehend. Lessons are a great way to improve your singing.
I’m becoming more comfortable performing in front of my peers.

I am a Certified Interpreter in five languages with the US Defense Language Institute Monterrey, California.

English is my third language but I didn’t stop here. I taught my mother and so many others tips on how to learn this language faster.

If you speak a Romantic language, even better; I’ll find “anchors” to help you connect the dots and allow you to find English words faster.
If your native language is not among the Romantic ones, don’t despair (though my assumption is that you stopped reading by now). Mentors are critical, and I’ll teach you ways to find balance, consistency, and discipline in learning English as a Second Language.

About Isabela

Before reading about me, I'd like to share up front the honor that my newest student, R., has brought to me by choosing to learn Romanian. Nothing special so far except that he is 100 years old!!!! Yes, you read that correctly: a century old. He is the outmost inspiring person in my life by teaching me that age is just a number and that learning can happen any day if we choose so. R is a medical doctor, a psychologist, a chemist and biologist. Words can't even define how great of a man he is and how grateful I am to learn from him, too. For instance, about a famous language called "esperanto", a language created in the late 19th century.

I'm an enthusiastic learner even after 19 years of formal education (two Masters, one Bachelor) earned on two continents continued by US military education in various forms, and formally tested studen

t who needed to document skills that were not formally captured on paper (like the foreign languages I know).

I love interacting with people and pass on my knowledge from five visited continents, instill love for learning and continuous curiosity for any subject out there. Nothing is impossible when you set your mind to it. Failing once doesn't mean that you'll never win (proof in my athletic years and life ever since); determination, hard work, self-motivation and a good supporting system can bring to reality even the most insignificant dreams that we believe may not come true, and especially those in which we passionately trust.

I believe in breaking down a goal into objectives, assigning tasks to each one of them, and then sticking to achieve them.

I'm a Certified Instructor with the Department of Homeland Security. My hobbies include practicing foreign languages (and proper grammar rules which highly reflect on one's education) by speaking them, learning about cultures and slangs, etymology, watching foreign movies, traveling internationally, taking photos, reading (a lot), carefully planning with room for error and impulsive decisions (to take the boredom out of things), meeting with life long friends, drawing, painting, and spending time outdoors for inspiration and health.

I'm elated at the opportunity of brainstorming with you and giving you tools to be an independent learner.

"I hired Henry to teach English for my little daughter. The reason i have chose him was he was the only one on the list who accept half hour lessons. I wan
ted to see şf he is good. I was gonna rşse to one hour if i like. And his hourly rate was reasonable too. We met and he was perfect. After my daughter we have studied with him. He has provided fastest improvement on my special purpose of need. It is really not common to see this passionate teachers around. His academic approach to your need and support with newest material in the maket was excellent. I think he is ahead of others because of his major. A senior jounalist, a TV person... he helped me a lot for my journalism career too... So i definitely can call him An excellent career coach. While i was trying to be on time with my project in Los Angeles, i was the lucky one to meet him through takelessons.com. He gave me what i need only at three weeks. We together focused on my certain project's needs and after i was ready to move alone almost. He is great to teach on bussiness emails, phone conversations, expressing your basic work situation etc.
He is great on accent reduction too. While i wrote this review my concerns is he will see and will find anything to correct... But he also has taught me to be courage enough too... Thank you Henry for everything you have done. I am a freelance foreign journalist in LA. He did his best for me both as a teacher and colleague. And such a good heart... Even if you don't share same opinions on any affair he respect you and try to give his best and more than what you have paid. He is patient too."

Tips for Learning English in the U.S. | A Glimpse Through the Eyes of a Recent Immigrant

By Suzy S.

For immigrants new to the U.S., the challenge of learning a second language can be tough. With so many options available, what's the best way to learn English? Read on as ESL tutor Gina C. shares her tips... I recently interviewed Francy M., who arrived from Columbia seven months ago. Francy started studying English in her home country in high school, but only a little; now, she knows she needs to learn to speak and understand English if she hopes to work in the U.S., so she made that her p …
