I am a native German speaker and have been teaching German since September 2011.
My students are pre-k -12 th Graders and occasionally adults, mostly Business German. SAT prep for German and German with listening.

About Kerstin
I graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in June 2007 with a Master in Education (Arts in Education) degree. During my studies I worked in the framework of the Artful Adventures Program (Museum of Fine Arts in Boston), which provides object - based learning and hands on artistic experiences for elementary and middle school kids. My own research was about “Creative Insight in Practice" and "Acquiring English as a Second Language and Developing Self-Esteem through the Idiom of Art". I have more than a two decades-long experience in painting, drawing, printmaking and installation work. The images I use in my work are mostly based on self-made or collected photos or drawings from nature combined with literature or self-made phrases. I use digital tools in order to layer text, photos and drawings and combine them to a new work.
Photo and text based collages will often merge into drawings or watercolors and these are the starting point for my large scale oil paintings.

Kerstin has been teaching German to both my kids for the past several years. Their grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation has improved dramatically. Kerstin has done a tremendous job tailoring her lessons to the different needs and learning preferences my children who very much appreciated this tailored approach. Most recently, Kerstin helped to prepare my oldest daughter for her German SAT subject test with outstanding results. I can highly recommend her.

Kerstin has been a great teacher for my two sons. Kerstin always made an special effort to provide teaching material that was not only age appropriate and appropriate for their level of proficiency, but was also tailored to their particular interests. Her teaching style is methodical, while also casual and interactive, and thus well suited to provide a positive learning experience, particularly for children and adolescents. Both my children have benefited greatly from her teaching and I would recommend her highly.

I love all things German and my aim is to encourage my students to feel the same. I've been teaching German for 3 years. My students go from knowing no German to being able to hold conversations to eventually completing their grad studies in a German speaking country!

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to introduce yourself and before you know it be a German whizz. I try to base my lessons around modern German pop culture typically using current events as inspiration. My lessons feature video links, audio, worksheets, textbooks, and more.

About Sam
Hi!

My name is Sam (short for Samantha). I'm from England but have been living and teaching in the USA since 2014 where I studied for my MA in German Studies at the University of Florida.

I started learning German in school at 14 so I know what it's like to learn this language as well as teach it.

I perfected my German skills by studying German as my major at undergrad, studying in Düsseldorf plus living and working in Berlin. I have a huge love for all things German and want to pass that on to you. German can be a tough language to learn but it really is rewarding. I consider myself to be an approachable teacher who will always strive to steer your lessons to cover things that interest you personally.

I'm currently located in Asheville, North Carolina, so if you're a local feel free to contact me regarding in-person lessons
.

*** Before signing up for lessons with me I encourage you to check my availability calendar/contact me to make sure I have a time slot that will work for you. I have a large number of students currently and very limited space in the evenings.

Thanks!

Sam is friendly and knowledgeable, which immediately set me at ease. I was nervous about our first session, as I have never studied German. She made me feel comfortable that I will be able to reach my goals.

I studied German at the University of Michigan and have spent a combined time of 18 months living in Germany. I know what it takes to learn a this language from scratch and can help you improve your skills and grades in your high school or college German class.

Ich freue mich drauf!!!

About Ryan
My lessons are laid back, fun, and practical. You develop the goals you want to achieve by pursuing a subject, and we tackle it and go after them together.

English as a foreign language and beginner to intermediate German are my specialties. I love English and I love language. I studied German at the University of Michigan and understand the difficulties that can come with learning or improving language skills. I lived in Germany two times, once for six months and again for a year, and spent a couple months living in Peru. These experiences taught me that learning a language is best done in two ways: with native speakers, and with full immersion. This is the philosophy I bring to my lessons.

As for US history, if you're interested in learning a lot of things they didn't teach you in school then I'm your guy. Areas that are especia
lly fun for me: Colonial history, Imperial Crisis & American Revolution, the Blundering Generation and the Civil War they caused, and the Second World War.

If you are interested in hearing more about my lessons and teaching philosophy, just drop me a line.

I am very excited to go on this journey with you!!

Ryan is an outstanding instructor that fits his lessons to meet your need. He effectively breaks down grammar and sentence structure in a way that makes the student not feel overwhelmed. Flexibility is not an issue with Ryan and he will work hard to make sure that your lesson with him is educational from start to finish. I will continue to use Ryan as my instructor for all my German language needs.

I became fluent in German by living in Germany for three years. Full immersion was the best way for me to grasp the language so when I teach German I will speak in German 90% of the time. You will learn German the same way you learned your native language; by listening, watching, and context clues. It may take some time but you will go from hearing gibberish to being able to distinguish words in sentences to understanding those words. The most difficult thing will be the grammar but you will feel such pride as you begin to communicate in German.

About Rebecca
I'm an artist and teacher. My main mediums are oil paint, cut paper, and fiber arts. When I graduated from Pratt in 2003 I received my BFA in Illustration and Art Education. After that I went on to grad school for elementary education. The perfect combination for helping people find themselves as artists while working on my own art.

After teaching in urban and suburban schools in CT, NY and Washington DC I moved to Germany where I taught English as a Native Speaker for three years. That's where I became fluent in German, learned a lot about myself, and worked on my cut paper bird series.

Over the years my students have grown tremendously. They have become creative thinkers and individuals. It brings me great pleasure to see them as they reach their goals and exceed expectations. Especially when it comes to students who I have helped t
o discover what type of learner they are so that they could finally reach their full potential. Once a person learns how to learn there is no stopping them.

I intend to continue working hard to help people reach their full potential. When you become my student you will have my full attention. I will give you the tools to reach your goals whether it's painting something you are proud of, having a conversation in German, or knitting a sweater.

During the time she was in Germany, she had worked as an English teacher at the school I attended.
She had an advanced class that another English speaker and I were in.
I had a great time and also learned new words that I did not know yet.
Thank you!
