Abi is a great teacher. She always comes up with very practical methods to improve my specific skills and I benefit a lot from here. And you can feel her teaching passion too!

Abigail was an enthusiastic teacher who helped spread her love of the violin. She is classically trained and works on the fundamental skills a young violinist needs. Our child enjoyed her sense of humor as well.

I grew up at the Northern tip of the Black Forest in Southwestern Germany and have spent most of my childhood vacations at my grandparents' in the Eifel region, close to the border with Luxemburg. Therefore, I got to grow up with standard German and two quite distinct dialects of German.

Once I started teaching German to refugees and did an internship in a university German class I started to become aware of the intricacies of German grammar and vocabulary and saw it with new eyes. Frankly, I may not be able to explain ALL grammatical phenomena, but it will be my pleasure to explore and expand my knowledge of German with you.

We can discuss what life in the German-speaking world is like, explore German literature and music, and along the way have a look at the grammar, vocabulary and prosody you may need to talk about those things.

Los geht's! :)

Madleine took time to get to know me, assessed my skill level and we started working from there. She was very helpful with vocabulary. She even gave me some hausaufgabe(homework) which was very helpful, too.

Madleine is an outstanding German instructor. I’ve been taking weekly private lessons with her for over a year. Aside from being a native speaker who is also fluent in English, she has a natural knack for languages in general which makes her effective at identifying not just when I make a grammatical or vocabulary mistake, but why. This speeds the learning process. I am thrilled at my progress over the past year, and was delighted that I could follow conversations and comfortably move around Germany when I traveled there last fall. Before the trip we tailored my lessons to include role-play scenarios related to cafés, train stations, hotels, asking directions on the street, etc. Madleine is happy to incorporate contemporary culture into lessons, so that for example we discuss (in German) German Netflix shows like “Dark,” or translate lyrics from German music. As far as course administration, she’s flexible and responsive, which is important to me since I travel a lot for my job and often have to reschedule. I absolutely recommend Maddie as a German instructor!

Madeleine gave me singing lessons for about three years and I have learned so much about how to use my voice properly and my singing has really improved. She also taught me how to accompany my singing on the piano, which has made singing at home a lot more fun. I could always choose which songs to sing and she always gave me very good and helpful tips on how to sound more like the original artist, but I could also improvise if I wanted to. The thing I enjoyed most was that I had the chance to record a few of the songs which we practiced quite professionally. I can really recommend her as a voice and piano instructor!

I am an experienced native speaking German tutor who has been teaching students of all ages and levels. I am a certified Montessori Teacher. I believe in gently guiding, supporting, encouraging but also challenging my students. I love to share many fun facts , i.e. hilarious literal translations, as well as cultural and historical background of Germany. This will give my student a well balanced foundation, he /she will really experience the language, get a “real feel” for it! I customize my curriculum to my students needs, wishes and goals. After a few lessons my students can speak easy sentences and phrases in German already, they will understand even more and will use their newly acquired skills continuously. I strongly stress speaking in my native language to my students from an early point on. It is very important to me to make the language learning a pleasant and enjoyable experience! There shall be lots of laughter! However diligent work and great effort is necessary
