Hello students and parents!

I have been teaching bass, guitar, and piano for over 10 years and have been playing all those instruments for over 12 years. I have experience teaching kids as young as five as well as adults. I enjoy having a variety of students.

I received a Bachelors in Music from Manhattan School of Music where my major was Jazz Bass Performance. I also studied a wide range of other subjects including piano, composition, and arranging. I am currently in my second year of a Masters in Music Education at Teachers College (Columbia University).

I am very passionate about
music as well as teaching and I want to inspire my students.

I play with a variety of artists in New York City and have toured extensively both nationally and internationally.

I have performed with artists including Ethan Iverson, Albert "Tootie" Heath, Billy Hart, Greg Osby, Jason Moran, Dave Liebman, Steve Wilson, Ambrose Akinmusire and Aaron Parks and have studied with teachers including Jay Anderson, David Grossman, Larry Grenadier and Ben Street.

I look forward to helping you grow as a musician and learning from you as well!

All the best,
Martin

*** Lesson Details ***
My primary mission is to help you accomplish the goals you have set for yourself. Within the first lesson I want to learn what you hope to achieve. I always ask my students what music they love and want to learn more about.

I want to use the music that you connect with to help you grow on your instrument. I will also teach you the techniques needed to play the instrument and expose you to the different styles possible on the instrument.

I tailor my teaching to each student's needs, concerns, strengths and weaknesses. I use a variety of teaching tools, including books and recordings, based on what I think will help you.

I am very patient, fun, and engaging. I guarantee that within 1 lesson you will feel inspired and ready to embark on an exciting musical journey.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons take place in the living room with a piano, upright bass, and guitar. Seating is available.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I use public transportation. I expect the student to provide an instrument and if possible, the book we are working through. Otherwise I will provide the book.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz, but can teach classical, rock, pop, funk, r and b,

I have been teaching upright Bass for 5 years and playing for 10 years. I will help you develop a good sound, whether playing arco (bowed) or Pizzicato (plucked). I can teach you how to build your own bass lines, to lock in with a drummer, and even how to solo.

About Dustin
Dustin Kiselbach is a Canadian bassist, composer, and educator based in New York City. He has performed all over the world since he began his career as a professional musician.

Kiselbach began his life as a musician at 12 on the electric bass in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada. Eventually his interests turned to Jazz and at 16 he began playing the Double Bass. As a student in Canada, Kiselbach earned numerous awards and honors, including the best bassist award at the Envision Jazz Festival in Surrey, BC, Canada.

In 2008 Kiselbach won a scholarship to study Jazz bass with Lynn Seaton
at the University of North Texas.

Proficient at both electric and upright, Kiselbach has performed in North America, Australia, Europe and Africa.

Dustin is a fabulous instructor. He is so very talented and yet that doesn't stop him from being super patient and understanding. He has a way of showing students at their level what areas need improvement and how best to get there. His positive attitude and kindness makes him a great instructor. Thanks Dustin.

As long as you're tall enough, I can teach you the upright bass. Classical, Jazz, Singer-Songwriter - You're in good hands learning any style.
We'll start by focusing on building up your fundamentals - Intonation, bow technique, sound - then build your musical vocabulary - Scale studies, etudes, creating bass lines, reading chord charts.

I like to use the Simandl book for my beginner and strictly classical students, and Rufus Reid's "The Evolving Bassist" for my jazzers. But I won't religiously stick to one book if I find it's holding back a student's development or not keeping their interest.

I may be young myself - but I've learned from the best, and love to share that knowledge to help you achieve your musical goals.

About Nick
Hi there!

My name is Nick, and I am here to help you achieve your musical goals.

Want to walk some tasty jazz bass lines? Great. Want to learn more songs on your guitar, upload them and get youtube famous? Sounds awesome. Want to identify intervals, chords and progressions on the fly? I'm your guy!

I'm fluent in jazz, rock, funk, pop, and classical styles (for proof, please visit my website or facebook page) - I can teach students of all ages and levels on electric bass, upright bass, and guitar (as long as you have a passion and willingness to learn!)

Should you choose to take
lessons with me, I will craft an individualized lesson plan with an emphasis on building a strong musical foundation so you can eventually learn to learn on your own.

I'm looking forward to helping you along on your musical journey. Thanks for reading this far, and see you soon!

I started to take guitar lessons with Nick after I realised how boring retirement can be. I used to be a pro in my highschool band, but those days are long behind me and I hadn't practiced in years.

Nick was extremely helpful and patient, and after only a few lessons he helped me find the talent I had forgotten about. He coached me through everything from classical to heavy metal, and even taught me how to do an awesome power slide!

Now I really feel like a rock god again! Thanks Nick!

It was my mom's idea for me to try and learn upright bass, and frankly I thought it was a pretty dumb one. It never seemed to me like one of those instruments somebody could just pick up and learn, like piano or guitar or the harp.

But here I am, 6 months later, and I'm already playing with a jazz band at my school. Nick made the whole experience way less daunting than I ever could've imagined, and now not only am I musician, but I'm a rare commodity! I'm not just another guitarist or drummer lost in a sea of fellows.

Thanks so much Nick! Rock on man!

Brian has been teaching my 9 year old son to play the piano for nearly 1 year. He is enthusiastic, patient and knowledgeable. Brian methods to teach children are outstanding. He is able to hold my son's attention for the entire length of the class and tailor his lecture to my son learning needs. My son absolutely loves his lessons and looks forward to it every week!

As a teacher, I teach students based on their experience, their goals, and their interests. I begin by asking what kind of music and bass playing they are most interested and go from there. I supply exercises, videos, helpful worksheets, practice journals, sheet music, and more. I love to focus on teaching students songs they love, in a helpful and successful way. I also love sharing music with students and discussing music with them. Finally, I love working on songwriting, theory, and harmony. Thanks!

About John
