I can be as sophisticated as needed, or as bare bones as needed. I am here to cater to the individuals' preferred method of learning. I believe in building a strong foundation, and will only push you as far as you can handle. We will move forward at a pace that fits with the individual, as some learn faster than others and some are able to devote more time than others. I am here to help you along the musical path of your choosing. If you are unsure of what musical path to embark on, yet you know you just want to get started, I will do my best to open your ears and eyes to all of the possibilities that potentially lie ahead.
I have been teaching on and off since 2005, and consistently since mid 2012. I use a number of materials from Musicians Institute curriculum (the school which I graduated from) and have also worked from various Hal Leonard and Mel Bay beginner books. My teaching philosophy is to exploit the origin; meaning one must have a full understanding of what comes ...

About John

My name is John. I am a graduate of Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA where I received a Bachelors of Music Performance on the guitar. I have moved back to South Jersey, and am looking for students.
My areas of expertise lie in metal/rock/progressive playing, songwriting and arranging. I also feel at home in the classical realm as far as orchestration and arranging go. I can teach various techniques on the guitar (including the fore mentioned styles) along with funk, blues, jazz, alternate picking, sweep picking, legato playing, hybrid picking, harmonizing, chord melody, odd meter, theory, and ear training as well as all things beginner.
I am also proficient as a vocalist, drummer/percussionist, bassist, and can find my way around a piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
The lesson is what you make of it. Every student (and every teache

r) is different. I can be very easy-going and laid back, or I can be extremely stern and strict. It all depends on the personality of the student, how seriously he/she takes music, and how much/how fast he/she is willing to learn. Some students prefer to take things slow and let material sink in (which I recommend), while others like to go through material fast and "jump around". The choice is yours, and I will do my best to adapt. I do, however believe one should never move forward until a strong foundation is built upon the current topic of education. First you crawl, then walk, then jog, THEN run.
i will use Musicians Institute curriculum as reference material along with any other books I have which pertain to the knowledge you seek.

*** Studio Equipment ***
:Tube & Solidstate guitar amps, effects pedals, PA, various guitars, bass, digital piano, drumkit, percussion, recording equipment, seating for parents if needed

*** Travel Equipment ***
Same as mentioned above

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock/metal/progressive styles as well as classical, although my classical technique could be considered more of a hybrid or a bit unorthodox in comparison to an exclusive classical guitarist. Developing the ear as an all around reference, (ear training) & building a strong foundation are my specialties. Using Theory as a means to simplify & organize when necessary along with a strong ear creates what I call "musical intuition" which I believe we all strive for.

wonderful books for ages 5 through Adult. Also a great way to sing and read music while playing an instrument. My teaching method includes notation if you haven’t studied a prior instrument . Books can also take in your specific interests, rock, jazz, country, after basic concepts .

About Mary

Music degree from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, WI. Graduate work in conducting, piano, and vocal pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in Princeton. Also certified in Kindermusik for ages newborn to 7.

My studio, since 1993 is located in the back of my house and is in a family friendly location.

As my education originally was music education, elementary and secondary, I have gone on to be certified in teaching adults, both beginning and returning. There is so much piano and vocal educational material geared to the pre-school, the elementary, Jr-Sr high and Adult beginner and I promise we will have fun while learning.....

Anyone can learn an instrument and anyone can learn many different styles. Lessons will be geared toward your interests and goals, which we can work on at your lesson also.

The grea

test virtues of a music teacher are passion, patience, understanding, and communicating. You will experience this in the studio. Give yourself a treat of two months of lessons and I promise you will be playing and/or singing better than you expected.

I am generally easy going and laid-back and will work with you to obtain specific goals such as a piece you would really like to learn. I can be strict if assignments are not followed or if there is no progression; we need to analyze why that is. I use many teaching methods as there are many different learning styles. The series I am currently using are Faber, Alfred, and Celebrate Piano! for pianists. Many singers are in Broadway, Disney, and/or English Reliquary and Italian Arias. There are so many wonderful choices! I can guarantee after three months you will be playing some music you like, and you will be reading music, and able to perform if you wish (starting small). With singing you will have basic knowledge of proper posture, breathing, and increased range. I also so enjoy people and communicating so you will feel comfortable taking lessons, and I believe that is one major factor of success in learning an instrument: the student-teacher relationship And second for children, especially the young, is the parent-teacher relationship .

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: Yamaha baby grand piano, Kawaii studio upright and keyboard, Yamaha keyboard, recording abilities, computer software, couch and two chairs, parents can sit in on lesson. Also have computer programs for note learning, composition, as well as giving you apps to download.

*** Specialties ***
Different methods for different students. Piano: mostly Faber and Alfred series. "Prodigy": Aaron/Thompson series. I've also had graduate study in teaching the Adult Beginner! As I was a church music director 1994 till last September, I am very familiar with traditional and contemporary sacred music, learning and performing. If you also wish to combine singing and accompanying yourself on piano or guitar lessons can be tailored.

Private Guitar Teacher

Can teach all levels and styles of guitar from beginner and advanced level and all genres--pop, country, jazz, blues, singer-songwriter, folk

About Brandon

I am a Rutgers University graduate with a B.A in Music Performance. I have played guitar for over 10 years, and currently perform all over the tri-state area as a solo acoustic performer and songwriter. I also play in several rock bands. I teach several students ages 5-65 right now, and have taught students how to play guitar for several years. In addition to playing in a rock band, I also am well versed in many music styles including jazz, pop, country and acoustic, songwriting, performance, music theory and recording skills/production.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very flexible teacher and suit my teaching style and format to fit each specific student's interests and needs. My goal is to keep the student interested and make learning guitar a fun experience.

I like to find out the kind of music the student listens to, or what

they want to get out of playing guitar, and then mold my teaching around that. For instance, if a student or parent wants a formal musical education, I will teach how to read music notes and teach them from a book. If the student wants to learn simple songs and be able to play around the campfire for fun, I make sure to guide the student toward doing just that.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated lesson space. Guitars. Music stands. Music books. Seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instruments I would require them to have te instrument they want to learn available and the necessary power source and amp if needed.

*** Specialties ***
Rock country jazz mainly though I know classical music theory as well as counterpoint etc

Private Guitar Teacher

Guitar is one of the most popular instruments today. It has a long history as an instrument, and with the invention of the electric guitar, has become a dominant voice of multiple generations.

Vince began playing guitar as a teenager. He initially learned on his mother's electric guitar and 12-string acoustic guitar. He took some lessons, but is largely self taught by transcribing music. Since attending college for trumpet, Vince has applied that musical knowledge to the guitar.

Vince has recorded guitar on many of his solo albums including Syzygy and Sound Plan as well as other artists' music. He performs regularly with the John Byrne Band on 6-string banjo (tuned like a standard guitar) and has appeared on electric 12-string and 6-string acoustic guitar.

Vince owns an array of guitars: 6-string electrics, 12-string electric, 6-string acoustics, 12-string acoustics, and 6-string banjo. He has a few amps and many pedals to augment the guitars' sound. He teaches from his ...

About Vince

Vince privately teaches trumpet, guitar, electric bass guitar, arranging, composition, music theory, ear training, and improvisation to students of all ages and levels.

“Basically he’s the go-to cross-genre horn-blowing utility man of the Philly scene” (John Vettese, The Key). Vince is a professional trumpeter, arranger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. Though firmly rooted in jazz, he is comfortable with a wide variety of genres including rock, soul, funk, folk, classical, and electronic.

Vince earned the Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and earned the Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. He studied trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks

, Dennis Wasko, and John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Randy Brecker, Matt Gallagher, Michael Abene, Craig Morris, Steve Wilson, Claudio Roditi, Pat Martino, Malcolm McNab, Matthew Shipp, Scott Holbert, John Abercrombie, Jeff Curnow, and Alison Balsom.

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams. Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. In 2017 he taught a jazz improvisation masterclass at Schenectady County Community College.

Since each student approaches music differently; Vince tailors his teaching to fit students' approaches. He asks each student, "What do you want to accomplish?" Together, they set short and long term goals. Vince believes a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. His students receive a wholistic approach to music applicable to whatever instrument they choose.

Vince’s original music has been described as “a contemporary instance of fusion done right” (Matthew Aquilin, All About Jazz). His next album, The Nook, is a full length straight-ahead jazz album featuring John Swana. The music harks back to Miles Davis' first great quintet. The Nook was preceded by Sound Plan (2017), Live at PafA (2017), Syzygy (2014), and Syzygy: Remix (2014). Vince is currently self producing four more solo albums. One unreleased composition was recently featured in the Philadelphia Real Book Volume 1.

Vince has appeared as a side man on 40+ albums. He is the trumpeter and arranger with the York Street Hustle, the John Byrne Band, and You Do You. Vince founded the Philly Phatness horn section, which has recorded with regional, national, and international artists, and on film soundtracks. He serves as Musical Director and bassist for Phloyd: a Philadelphia Pink Floyd tribute band. "His horn croons and wahs with touches of funk or blues, bridging the futuristic digital age with a snazzy sense of classic cool" (Geno Thackara, All About Jazz).

Quotes:

"Vince proves himself a very creative composer. I look forward to hearing more from this upcoming composer & instrumentalist." (Fred "Rock Steady Freddie" Reiter)

"Vince plays his horn with creative passion and soul, his tone is very open and full these two combined make him one of the leading up and coming young jazz trumpet players of today." (Rebecca Coupe Franks)

"I've had the great pleasure of working with Vince as an arranger and writer. His music explores many styles and directions, and is always well crafted. He has an original and distinctive voice as a player, an arranger, and a writer. Such dedicated talent deserves to be heard, and I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot from Vince in the future." (Vinnie Martucci)

Guitar is my main instrument. I teach all styles from blues, to rock, to shredding, to jazz to classical to flamenco. Learn how to pick like Johnny Cash or fly like Steve Vai.

About Benjamin

I grew up in Glenside moved to Pittsburgh for school and came back because I love it here...I've been playing for 17 years and have a smorgasbord of influences from Zeppelin to the Beatles to Phish to Radiohead to the dirty projectors to Jay Z to Kurt Rosenwinkel & John Scofield. I have been composing and working with original bands for some 11 years and play regularly in the city and up and down the east coast. I have also been teaching for the past 11 years all over the Philadelphia area. i teach from a method I derived myself from years of learning both in and out of school. I think teaching music is both aural as well as visual and encourage students to listen to music a lot. most of all i feel that music is fun and the students should enjoy learning so i incorporate their favorite artists and favorite songs into our studies. for seri

ous students I love theory and love sharing what I've discovered over the years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a very laid back guy but I take my playing seriously. music is my life and there's nothing I enjoy sharing and expressing more. I learned to love playing guitar when I was 12 from the coolest guitar teacher ever. he had a vibe that i gravitated toward and encouraged me in just the right ways to get me believing in myself. I try to encourage my students the same way. music should be fun above all and sculpt my lessons to each students individual needs so that they are better equipped to succeed.

Private Guitar Teacher
About Vincent

I have taught for 18 years, giving both private and group lessons. I am a professional musician, having played in numerous bands, recorded and played shows. I have taugh all ages, and all elvels, and all styles. I play a number of instruments including piano, guitar, bass, violin, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica, in addition to writing and singing. I took private lessons for over 10 years, and also studied music in both high school and college.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect to be treated with respect, and have a lesson tailored around their abilities, interests, and amount of practice time. I make the lessons fun but also informative. I try to get to know my students so that they feel comfortable. I am laid back, but also determined that a student practice well, and learn not only the instrument but music fundamentals a

s well. I try to show students that learning music is a lifelong pursuit that can provide all types of fun and personal fulfillment, in addition to being a potential career and social outlet. After 3-6 months, the student will be playing songs, good ones, not just scales. They will also have learned basics, such as chords and scales, as well as sight reading.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Basement converted into music studio with instruments, and piano and keyboard. Parents can sit in on lessons. Street parking available.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide all lesson materials, listening examples, and, on occassion, an instrument. I often use my laptop to play songs and tutorials for students (who don't buy records like we did in the old days.) Generally, students must provide instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I tailor my lessons based on three factors: a student's interests, their ability, and their amount of practice time. I do not use a cookie cutter method of teaching because each student is different. I have studied, formally and informally, rock, pop, blues, jazz and classical. My specialties are rock and blues. On occasion, I will use method books, such as the Schirmer books for piano, but only if the student clearly seems to benefiting from them.

If you want to get started with guitar, I'm the one you've been looking for. I'll get you started with basic theory, then I'll gradually move on to more advanced topics. I have a good background in this subject. I've actually taught this subject to a student who already had seven years experience; he didn't know how to put chords together in the right way. Guitar can be fun!

About Larry

First off, I want to mention something that potential Philadelphian students should be aware of. I can only go to certain sections of the city, and I can only give you lessons on weekday afternoons between 12-2pm. Sorry, no evening classes. I'll need time to travel between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Actually, I prefer students in South Jersey. Those students can have lessons in my available time frame.

Now, a little about myself.
Are you looking for a great tutor? I'm the one you've been looking for.

I've had more than 3 years of tutoring experience in the following subjects:

* Computers (Java, general topics, C++, C, HTML, application programming, and others)
* Math (from elementary math to algebra)
* Piano (from basic to more advanced)
* Guitar (from theory to more advanced)

I've had favorable reviews from my former

clients, and I'll have competitive low rates as well. What are you waiting for?

8-Year-Old Girl is Gnarliest Guitar Shredder Ever

By Megan L.

I'm willing to bet that "playing like a girl" will stop being an insult within this little lady's lifetime! At just 8 years old, Lisa-X is able to play rapid fire metal solos that will melt your face off and blow your mind. She's smaller than her guitar, but she sure knows how to make it sound big and mighty. Plus, the sweet grin she gives the camera as she's bending a note around 1:46? Priceless! Child prodigies like Lisa are absolutely amazing, but there's really no wrong age to sta …
