I am from Brooklyn, NY and have taught music in both an elementary school and in one-on-one settings. In undergrad, I majored in Music and Psychology and have experience tutoring and teaching guitar for over three years. I have extensive work experience with kids as a babysitter and a camp counselor in both day camp and sleep away settings. I have previously worked full-time as a music teacher in an elementary school have taught guitar to students of any age! In addition to music, I have tutored students ranging from 3 years old to graduate students in ELA and writing. My specialties lie in essay-writing but I have assisted with learning spelling, grammar and phonics. I have also taught English as a second language. As a former student, I understand the importance and value of a great teacher and I love sharing my passions with others!

This is a guitar class for all beginners. Whether you have never picked up a guitar before or if want to learn the basics, this class is for you. For those who have never picked up a guitar before, we will be learning string names, best technique and positioning and how to tune the guitar. For those who know this, we will be learning simple chords. Depending on the level of those in attendance, we may learn basic music reading and tab reading.

I have been playing guitar for 13 years and have taught for around three years. I have experience playing rock, pop and jazz and have extensive work experience with kids. I have studied music at three different summer institutions including New York Summer Music Festival, Litchfield Jazz Camp and Interlochen Center for the Arts. I have most recently earned my Bachelor's Degree in Music and Psychology. I have experience performing in Jazz Competitions in the United States and Canada, arranging scores and using GarageBand and Logic Pro X for music production. I have worked with students who are new to guitar and those who have been playing for a few years. I love teaching guitar and sharing my passion with others!

Joey is an amazing and patient teacher! I had never taken lessons before so it was slow starting out, but Joey is very skilled and was extremely helpful.  I continue to take lessons and will continue to for a while.

Joey and I were in the same composing class during undergrad and they kindly offered to teach me guitar. Since I was at a beginner level, I had to learn techniques and music theories from scratch. As a result of their teaching, I was able to progress efficiently and enjoyed their selection of practices. In addition to our guitar lessons, Joey also answers my questions outside of class times, which has been extremely helpful during the pandemic. Joey is a great teacher who's passionate about music and teaching. I strongly recommend Joey to anyone interested in taking guitar lessons.
