No nonsense lesson. Learned some intrinsic things that help a lot. Looking forward to the next lesson. Thanks Richie

Shawn (Guitar lessons with Richard D.)

Combined a great balance of practice, instruction, theory, and suggestions for "homework." Didn't feel inadequate, like I did with another instructor from school of rock.

Dave Williams (Guitar lessons with Richard D.)

Richie is an incredible instructor. Every lesson I have with him is fun, and he pushes me to try new skills in order to develop my abilities. Always prepared with a valuable lesson, but also ready to

Jenna (Guitar lessons with Richard D.)

Richie is a great instructor who strikes a good balance between keeping things new and fun while also creating a healthy challenge. I'm only halfway through my lessons with him, and I've enjoyed each

Five Reasons to Get Excited about Guitar Culture in St Louis

Richard D.

By Richard D. -St. Louis Guitar Teacher

Are you considering guitar lessons in St. Louis? Whether you are a beginner or have several years of experience under your belt, there are many reasons to get excited about the guitar scene in St. Louis. From a guitar player and true music enthusiast, here are 5 reasons to get excited about guitar culture in my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.

  1. Chuck Berry Still Lives Here. Chuck Berry may have very well invented rock n’ roll. In a Rolling Stone article last April, Berry’s recurring monthly performance in St Louis was cited as one of their “40 Reasons to Get Excited about Music.”

  2. There’s an Open Mic 7 nights a Week. There’s no better place to keep your performance chops up and network with other musicians - and in the St Louis area, there’s one somewhere 7 nights a week. Some of my favorites include Venice Café, The Shanti, Llywelyn’s Pub, Iron Barley, Hartford Coffee Company and Whatsmokin' BBQ Restaurant.

  3. St Louis is a Great City to Study Guitar. We have amazing music programs at Washington University, UMSL, and SLU as well as Central Visual/Performing Arts High School, and Midwest Guitar Building and Repair School. And of course there are many wonderful TakeLessons teachers who are ready to help you get started with your guitar lessons in St. Louis!

  4. A Sense of Community. KDHX 88.1 is our community radio station and they play local St Louis music every single day. For a list of local performances at nearly every venue in St Louis, pick up a free copy of the RiverFront Times every Thursday.

  5. Festivals! We have a wonderful variety of annual music festivals, such as the Big Muddy Blues Festival, Schwagstock, Mardi Gras, PointFest and the St. Louis Jazz and Heritage Festival.
