I have a degree in music, and have taught at three summer camps three music stores and two universities.

I have been teaching guitar since 1990. I teach ages 9 and up, and I aim to tailor lessons to work with your natural strengths and learning style.

I offer note-reading but it is optional. We can study guitar using tablature and chord diagrams. The important thing is to make great music, enjoy the process, play songs you like, make steady progress and become independent.

If I teach you well, eventually you won't need me very much- you'll be able to figure things out on your own,

I started playing guitar when I was 4. I've played classical, rock, a bit of jazz, folk, a little bluegrass, and fingerstyle. I love the guitar and I love teaching!

About Carla

Music is my LIFE! After more than 25 years of teaching at music camps, music stores, 3 colleges and my home, I completely understand that the lessons are all about YOU, the student: what you want to learn, taught to you in a way that works for your brain and personality. And if you don't know

Carla's teaching technique was perfect for me. I have played the guitar for longer than I care to admit and even I was tired of hearing my same old stuff. She incrementally moved me forward line by line, measure by measure to where I now have several fingerpicking style numbers in my portfolio.

Playing for my own enjoyment is now enjoyable once again.

My lessons were online and very effective - when I got stuck, Carla would send me a sample audio clip of her playing the difficult part which was a godsend for me in how I learn new musical things.

I highly recommend Carla and her Carlalology method of guitar teaching. You won't be disappointed.

"I was looking for someone to teach me how to play lead guitar. Greg provided needed educational aids to help. He helped me get an insight in what it could be and what I needed to do to get there. Unfortuanately, (or fortunately), my daughter was doing a guitar camp of Greg's and decided she wanted to learn more so I gave her the lessons. She has been taking lessons with Greg for quite a few years now and has accomplished more than I. She is better than I am now. A dad could not ask for more."

Guitar Lessons in Saint Louis

Saint Louis is renowned for its musical heritage and especially for blues and jazz music. That makes the Gateway City one of the best places in the country to learn how to play guitar. If you’re considering taking guitar lessons in Saint Louis, you will do so in a city that absolutely embraces musical talent and will help you to get the most out of your guitar.

What You’ll Need to Get Started

Before you take guitar lessons in Saint Louis, you will need some essential equipment, starting with a good guitar that will stay in tune. In fact, it’s better if you have at least two guitars on which to practice, because, sooner or later, you will need to take one in for maintenance, and having a spare guitar will allow you to continue practicing. If you are playing an electric guitar, you will need a good practice amp. You also will want a guitar stand for each of your guitars to ensure you keep it stored properly when not in use and to avoid leaning it against a wall or other place where it could tip over and suffer damage.

A music stand will help you to comfortably look over your guitar tablature or sheet music while practicing, and you will want an assortment of guitar picks to help you find the type the best suits your playing style. One or two packs of spare guitar strings should help you to replace any strings that might break while practicing. You also will need either a good gig bag or, preferably, a guitar case for each of your guitars to help protect them from damage while traveling to and from your guitar lessons in Saint Louis.

Where to Buy Guitars in Saint Louis

When you take guitar lessons in Saint Louis, you will want to ensure you have a quality instrument that will stay in tune, be more playable and make your practice time more productive and fun. Fortunately, Saint Louis has many great local guitar stores where you can examine your potential instrument, get a feel for it, and ensure it is a good fit as your musical companion. J. Gravity Guitar Strings on South Broadway Street in Saint Louis has several new and a very wide variety of popular used guitars (http://www.gravitystrings.com/). Finding a good one that will fit your budget should be easy here.

Eddie’s Guitars on Manchester Road in nearby Maplewood is a very popular local guitar store that features many popular brands, such as Fender and Gibson, as well as its own custom guitars and a variety of quality used guitars (http://eddiesguitars.com/). Another good local guitar store is Acme Guitars on Clayton Avenue. Acme offers new and used electric and acoustic guitars and specializes in vintage guitars. Finding a great deal on a good new or used instrument for your guitar lessons in Saint Louis will prove to be a fun experience.

Best Places for Guitar Setup and Repairs

No matter how good your guitar is initially, eventually it will need maintenance and possibly repairs. You should have your guitar setup and maintained at least once per year, but every six months is preferred in order to keep it in top playing form. One of the best places to get your guitar maintained or repaired is Goez Instrument Repair on Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood. Goez is a top-rated guitar maintenance and repair shop with years of experience. Midwest Guitar Luthier & Repair on Cherokee Street in Saint Louis is another highly regarded repair shop, and so is Fazio’s Frets & Friends on Manchester Road in nearby Ellisville.

Fun Venues and Events

Finally, checking out fantastic guitarists and staying inspired to keep taking guitar lessons in Saint Louis is a cinch with all the great venues and events in the area. BB’s Jazz, Blues & Soups on South Broadway offers live music seven nights a week and features many of the best local guitarists as well as top touring artists (http://bbsjazzbluessoups.com/). The Old Rock House on South 7th Street is a popular place for checking out bands playing many musical genres (http://oldrockhouse.com/), and Off Broadway on Lemp Avenue is noted for featuring many of the best local guitarists and bands in Saint Louis (http://www.offbroadwaystl.com/).

Good luck in your guitar lessons in Saint Louis, and have fun as you embark on your musical journey!
