Matt B. Denton, TX

About Matt

I love learning, and I love sharing and developing the tools for learning. I began as a self-taught pianist at age 12, and from ages 14 to the present I have had the experience of studying with some of the most phenomenal teachers of this generation. George Katz, former chair of the Drake University Piano Department and student of the legendary artists Alfred Cortot and Marguerite Long; Jerome Lowenthal, also a student of Cortot (and William Kapell) and former chair of the Julliard piano department, and Jose Feghali, winner of the 1985 Cliburn Gold Medal have been my most influential teachers. From them, I learned how to learn, how to teach, and how to teach learning, which I believe is the most important skill. As a winner of the 2000 Interlochen Concerto Competition, I had my ...

Excellent Singing Coach

Matt is a wonderful singing coach. He has a great understanding of music theory. He made me feel comforable right from the beginning, and I had not had a lesson in over 15 years. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I've been taking lessons from Matt for a couple of years now and have performed in 2 recitals. The recitals Matt offers are an excellent motivator for reaching goals and growing my skill level. I'm very pleased with my progress and so appreciate Matt's attention to detail and his encouragement.

Jennifer is an excellent teacher. Her attention to detail and technique cannot be matched. She has the ability to pinpoint exactly what needs improvement, and she is able to re-train the bad habits you have. I've seen a huge improvement in my voice in just one year. Now, I'm singing with a larger range with a much more healthy sound. This is important because I want my voice to last. I highly recommend Jennifer.

My son always leaves with a smile

My son has a lot of confidence issues, but taking the lessons with Aaron has opened a whole new world of opportunity for him, and he always leaves his sessions encouraged with a smile. It's also great that he can play piano now beyond his own expectations. He is learning proper technique and theory as well.

Merilyn is fantastic!

I am an adult student of Marilyn's and played the piano for 10 years growing up. I came to Marilyn wanting to start playing again after not playing at all for 7 years. My experience has been wonderful and I am surprised at how quickly I'm picking it up again. This is mostly due to Marilyn's positive feedback and constructive instruction. She is laid back and easy to work with and my experience playing as an adult is much more enjoyable than when I was younger.

Sarah loves piano lessons with Tammye because she is calm, funny and very "laid-back" in how she approaches children and teaching the piano. These qualities are gradually drawing Sarah back to an instrument that she loved initially but had withdrawn from due to very strict and almost frightening former teachers. I am so happy to see her loving the piano again and looking forward to her practices with Tammye. Thank you, Tammye, for encouraging and realizing that learning an instrument is a marathon for some and not a sprint!

I met Michael at a gig and was blown away by all the original material he wrote and played on guitar. In a couple of years of lessons I learned more technique and and music theory than I did after 20 years on my own. Michael is a world class player/composer and a very patient teacher. You can't find any better.

Michael isn't just a great teacher and amazing guitarist, but he's a crazy good composer as well, which is a skill that can be difficult to find among many music instructors these days. If you're looking to get started from scratch or are a more experienced guitarist looking to break into that next level of playing, Michael would be a great choice as he's the real deal for sure. Great guy too!

I had been playing for a long while and knew that If I was going to get better I needed to play and learn from someone way better than I.

Michael is that person! At first I thought I would be learning some cool licks and techniques and I did, but Michael gave me much more than that.

I didn't realize I was going to learn theory as well. I feel that he gave me a solid foundation to move forward.

Thanks to Michael H., I'm not a leaf in the wind any longer...Thanks Michael!!

How to Tune Your Violin: Online Violin Tuners & Resources

If this is your first experience with playing music seriously, tuning your instrument may not even have occurred to you.  Nor will you notice, necessarily, slight changes
