Dan C. Barrington, IL

About Dan

I have been playing guitar for 30 years, starting with Rock/Blues before studying both Classical and Jazz guitar in college. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1995. I am currently a guitar teacher in the NW Chicago suburbs and in Chicago currently with 45+ students, teaching all ages, all levels and all styles. I have been teaching guitar and music off and on for the past 20+ years but in 2007 I decided to devote myself to teaching full time (yes, teaching guitar is my primary job!)...one of the best decisions I have ever made! To me, playing music is an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s also a lot of fun! But no matter what your goals are in music, I have found, through many years of playing and teaching, that every musician ...

Best Teacher and Encouraging

I have had Dan as my Guitar Teacher, he is the best in teaching Guitar from the basics. I started with him as nothing since I do not have any Musical Background, He encouraged me well to understand the Music notes and Guitar Tabs. Every lessons with him was so much interesting and particularly he asks me to choose my favorite song and explore the Guitar notes. That makes the learning interesting and willing to explore the different types of Music.
Any questions I asked about the Music, he could explain by the way that I can easily understand. Every second in his class is valuable and has some good information about Music.
He is the Best and I always feel proud to say that I am his student.

Best teacher i've had

Dan is amazing. I've had him as a teacher for a few years and I have already learned to play Hotel California, Johnny B. Goode, and many other songs. Dan brings his own equipment so that you can get printed handouts whenever you want. He is quite instructive and explains things in simplest terms. If you are having some trouble with something, he breaks it down into smaller pieces. Dan is definitely the best teacher I have had.

Excellent instructor

Dan is endlessly patient and good humored as only someone who really enjoys his job is. He is easy to be around and quite attentive to individual needs.
Paul W. Chicago, IL

About Paul

I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having relative ...

I was an intermediate guitarist before I started working with Paul. I felt as though I was stuck and needed some help before I could get to the next level. Its been over two months and Paul has showed me a whole new approach to the guitar. These new techniques to playing have really opened my eyes and now I play with a sense of purpose and flow instead of just cord progressions. I can't wait to see my progress into the future. Thanks Paul

I've had 3 classes so far and Paul has been really patient. As I'm new to learning the guitar, it's nice to have someone who is understanding and moves at a comfortable pace. He also gives good advice on practice techniques! Definitely give him a go!
Ian M. Lake Villa, IL

About Ian

I’ve been teaching professionally to all ages and levels for over 10 years throughout the Chicagoland area. I have been playing for about 19 years. Music is my passion. I even own and run an all ages music venue. Teaching is my biggest love and I love seeing students learn! There isn’t a style I will not teach. All music to me is fascinating:) *** Lesson Details *** All lessons start with the basics (assuming the student doesn’t already know them). This includes: reading music and chord diagrams (usually using a book for students under the age of 15), understanding rhythm, basic music theory, etc. Meanwhile, we apply this knowledge to songs of the student’s choice- this way they’re learning songs they like, and more about guitar and music at the same time. As time goes on we’ll get into ...

Great teacher

My son loves learning guitar from Ian! He is so patient with children. His love for music is infectious. He makes my son look forward to learning each week. If you want to learn guitar... Pick Ian!

great teacher for popular acoustic guitar

Ian is a no nonsense well organized guy. He taught me using exercises he wrote out on paper mostly in tabulature form. He used a metronome from the first lesson and always introduced a music theory concept such as rhythm, pentatonic scales, and chord transposition. He will not move past any exercise until you can demonstrate proficiency so there is no choice but to draw your own conclusion that you need to practice more if you want to progress. He teaches out of his local all ages music venue, or will travel to your home.

A great experience.

As an adult, beginner student I have nothing but good things to say about Ian. He has a very good demeanor during class and takes the time to find out what styles you are interested in.

He has the patience and communication skills that are found in superior instructors (I have been to a couple others and have stuck with Ian). His passion for music is infectious.

He challenges me to become better with each week and is good at instilling a sense of competition. I highly recommend him as an instructor.

Paul is a great teacher in general. He's a good bass guitar player and has some innovative ways to teach on that instrument, but his approach would work for anything.

About Teresa

I am a graduate of Northern IL University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. I have 22 years of teaching experience where I have traveled to the homes. I use a very easy, flexible approach when it comes to the kids and their personalities. I expect a lot out of my students, yet still want them to learn and have fun. After three months with me, they will have learned how my

I have been taking lessons for about 4 weeks now and am thoroughly enjoying the experience with Terri. She listens to where I am, and while she is patient, challenging and encouraging, she also takes into account my schedule and my current life circumstances. As things get more challenging, we take our time, because that's what my life needs. As an adult student, I have a fairly busy life with work and other interests outside my music lessons. I appreciate Terri's flexibility with my pace, and her understanding with regard to each client as an individual with individual needs.

Anyone young and old will enjoy learning to play the piano with Terri!

Terri is the perfect match when it comes to being my piano teacher. Not only is Terri knowledgeable and professional, she is also very patient and encouraging. She has made me appreciate the challenge of learning the piano by combining technique and theory along with fun and laughter in my lessons. With Terri, the lesson is not over until she makes sure I understand what she has just taught me. She is the best! I am so lucky I found her! I highly recommend her!

Voytek is unbelievably positive and flexible. I've been working with him for about 6 months, and he started me off with a great set of lessons and materials that was right for me. He always focuses on what I do well, so I want keep playing, even when things get hard. When he points out something to work on, he somehow comes across positive - more like a helpful suggestion than a critique. Voytek has been knowledgable and flexible when I want to focus on music theory or just play songs that I like. I continue to work with him and would hire him for other types of lessons.
