About Natalie

I am a Music Therapist with background in Psychology, Masters in Social Work and Yoga certification. I have been teaching voice, guitar and piano lessons for over 10 years. I have directed children's Musical theater camps, and taught piano and voice in music studios and privately for over a decade.

Performance wise I have been on TV, musicals, lead singer in a band as well as performed on a cruise ship.

I enjoy all forms of music. My personal favorites are Jazz, especially Brazilian Jazz, Musical Theater, Alternative Independent Rock and the Classics of course ;)

*** Lesson Details *
**
I take a student-centered approach which basically means I take a needs assessment of my students and map out goals that are essential for them, their learning and where they want to go. Although I follow the students lead, following at a comfortable pace,

I also challenge in terms of structuring my lessons for growth and tracking progress. So whether you are looking to be the next American Idol or just wanna learn for fun, I am all in to helping you reach your personal aspirations! :)

I am able to use the Koday method as well as incorporate music theory but not necessary in my approach. It is more important that the student's personal needs and goals be met and attained in order to maximize full potential!

*** Studio Equipment ***
It is helpful if the student has the required book, staff paper, and a music notebook/folder to start :)

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own keyboard and guitar but children need to have their own keyboard/ piano or guitar for practicing.

*** Specialties ***
I have a background in musical theater but knowledge of classical and jazz as well. Voice is my forte but I also enjoy teaching beginning piano.

Natalie is a superb teacher! We are thrilled to have found such a compassionate, dedicated, competent teacher. She provides my daughter with excellent lessons of consistency, practice, review of previous lessons and introduction to new material. My daughter is so excited for her lessons because Natalie is so positive and enriching in her teaching style. Natalie exudes happiness, knowledge in the subject matter, and an overall engaging personality. My daughter has made leaps and bounds since starting lessons several months ago. We highly recommend Natalie as a singing teacher!!!

About George

Welcome

Music matters: A new philosophy of music education. Fun and to the point.

Music education is a field of study associated with the teaching and learning of music. It touches on all learning domains, including the psychomotor domain (the development of skills), the cognitive domain (the acquisition of knowledge), and, in particular and significant ways, the affective domain (the learner's willingness to receive, internalize, and share what is learned), including music appreciation and sensitivity. Music training from preschool through post-secondary education is common in most nati
ons because involvement with music is considered a fundamental component of human culture and behavior. Music, like language, is an accomplishment that distinguishes humans as a species.

The student will learn:

Music theory is the study of the practices and possibilities of music. The student will learn all the fundamental elements of music such as pitch, rhythm, harmony and form, but also refers to descriptions, concepts, or beliefs related to music.

Piano technic
Technic is the ability to execute a zillion different piano passages; therefore it is not dexterity, but an aggregate of many skills. These skills are acquired in two stages: (1) discovering how the fingers, hands, arms, etc., are to be moved, and (2) conditioning the brain, nerves, and muscles to execute these with ease and control.

Piano scales and modes

It's the theory behind that will help you understand things like for example chords. Playing scales can also be a great way to improving your technique. Because of the relationship of notes in certain scales they will always sound well played together. A fact that makes scales a primary foundation for everyone who wants to improvise on the instrument. This can be done just by playing the white keys as in the C Major scale or it can be more advanced by, for example, using modus for jazz improvisation. Therefore, you shouldn't consider scales as some boring and dull stuff – it can be your step up to a new level of playing.

Piano improvisation

Improvisation is the ability to make music as you are performing it. Much of improvisation is learning patterns or different note arrangements that you can then apply to songs that you already know. You will learn some patterns and arrangements that you can play with your left hand that can be added to any song to create more interesting sounding music. Some of these improvisation techniques are: chord inversions, the double chord pattern, the broken chord patternand the arpeggio chord pattern.

Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production, an electronic musician being a musician who composes and/or performs such music. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology.

DAW= Digital Audio Workstation. A term usually used to describe a PC or a Macintosh Computer that is used primarily for Music Creation and Recording, Mixing, and Mastering Audio Files. Found is many Home studios as well as Professional Recording Facilities.

Sound recording and reproduction is an electrical or mechanical inscription and re-creation of sound waves, such as spoken voice, singing, instrumental music, or sound effects. The two main classes of sound recording technology are analog recording and digital recording.

Audio post production
You will learn all stages of production between the actual recording in a studio and the completion of a master recording. It involves, sound design, sound editing, audio mixing, and the addition of effects.

Learn the music composition and sound effects for basic Video production (video game, film, TV and media)

Video production is the process of creating video by capturing moving images(videography), and creating combinations and reductions of parts of this video in live production and post-production (video editing).

Create and edit Sound effects (or audio effects) are artificially created or enhanced sounds, or sound processes used to emphasize artistic or other content of films, television shows, live performance, animation, video games, music, or other media.

Call for more information. If you want to learn guitar instead of piano all of the information methodology above for piano will be redirected to guitar teachings and methods.

I also will include rhythm and drums. Beacause is very important to make a good audio and video production the knowledge of rhythms.

See you in class.

Susan S.

Mission Viejo, CA

About Susan

I have been performing since the age of three. At the age of seven, I began classical vocal lessons. At 8, I wrote the school song for Cherry Creek Elementary School in Marquette, Michigan. When I was 10, I entered and won the Grand Supreme title at my first pageant. When I was 13, I moved my vocal training at the local University becoming the youngest classical vocal student. After years of participating in musical theatre productions, I landed a job in a guitar shop that lead to a big shift in my musical interests. I left my small town, the theatre and my classical background behind and bega
n fronting both Country and Rock bands, even singing along side Juice Newton, The Oak Ridge Boys, Glen Campbell, Sugarland, and Trick Pony on stage at the Porterfield Country Music Festival in 2005, which has in years past drawn nationally known country music artists such as Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, and Loretta Lynn. At age 19, I had an acoustic act which landed me a guest spot on 'The Tyra Banks Show.' I have been a featured performer at Chicago's House of Blues, as well as some of the most popular hotspots in Wrigleyville.
In most recent years, I have been behind the scenes as a vocal coach in the greater Chicago area. I moved to Mission Viejo, California recently, and look forward to meeting new students! I have four children, my youngest daughter has Down syndrome so I'm also partial to working with students with special needs.
I'm really excited to add that offer lessons online through TakeLessons! It's a great thing to get to work with students all over this country and I'm looking forward to help pioneer the future of music lessons!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are looking to learn to project, or how to make it through an entire show without blowing your voice--I'm your gal! As long as students exhibit a willingness to try and to learn, then I'm more than willing to go the extra mile in my teaching. I just want to see genuine effort. Because I cater to all experience levels, I like to focus on individual goals of the student and build on those.

The biggest thing that I hope to give my students, is confidence. Whether or not music becomes a career for them, or just something to help get them through their day-- my goal is to show them that they can learn something new, they can accomplish things that they never thought they could do, they can sing for friends, join a band, play a challenging song, sing the high note they never thought they'd hit. If I can, anyone can. It's not about being perfect. Being perfect is overrated. It's about the passion behind the performance.

With that said, it's also about practice. Practicing builds the skills needed to keep that confidence alive. Then the more confidence you have, the more you say-- "Let's go for it. Let's try," the more you'll learn and the more skills you'll build. They feed off of each other. One can't survive long without the other.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Simple PA set-up.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide everything. If there is a particular piece that you want to work on that I don't have, I ask that you provide that.

*** Specialties ***
Classically trained, but I've also done a lot of musical theatre and have a strong background there. I do play guitar and bass, specializing in rock/folk and pop styles. I've taken tap and jazz from the age of 3 until I was 17 to help with Musical Theatre performance.

Suzie is extremely knowledgeable

Suzie is an amazing teacher! I am so impressed with her knowledge of music! In just the short time I've been taking voice lessons I can feel my voice getting stronger. She has taught me the correct way of breathing, projecting and standing. She's always giving me positive feedback, which is so helpful. I would recommend Suzie to anyone who is serious about taking voice lessons!

Susan is an amazing teacher

I haven't had too many classes with Susan but already I feel more confident in my voice. She has taught me so much about the correct way to breathe and the way to keep the right tone while you sing. I thought that taking lessons with someone over skype wouldn't be very effective but I was totally wrong because Susan is so prepared and sends you warm ups and also instrumental music for the song you are going to work on before your lesson. She makes sure to give positive comments as well as critiques so you won't feel uncomfortable or feel like you're a bad singer. I am so happy that I picked Susan and I would recommend her to anyone!!

Minoo is an excellent teacher! She's very patient and she makes it fun. She actually had me playing songs by my 2nd lesson! For someone who had no idea how to read music let alone play the piano before she walked through my door, I find it quite remarkable. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn how to play.

Over the past year, my two children have taken singing lessons with Patricia. My kids are polar opposites of each other - in age, temperament, behavior, patience - you name it. My 14 year old daughter is in the gifted program at high school and my son in on the spectrum and spends part of each day in the special day class at his elementary school. Somehow, Patricia is able to provide individually tailored lessons for each child. They absolutely love going to see her! As a mother, nothing is more important than seeing your children thrive. This has been a richly rewarding experience for all of us.

Patricia is an amazing instructor on many levels. While she is an accomplished performer in her own right, she is equally able to break down the necessary vocal techniques in a manner that all ages and all levels can relate to. Lessons with Patricia are productive, but they are also fun! You will not find a more dedicated vocal coach anywhere.
