About Carolyn

Coming from a large extended family in Hawaii, I was surrounded by luau music, kachi-kachi dancing, Japanese bon dances, handsome local guys singing and playing their guitars and my aunties strumming their ukes and singing old songs. I reveled in walking alone in Nature or playing piano and singing

"My 14 year old daughter has loved having Steven as her piano teacher so much so in fact that she also wanted to try voice as well (even with her anxiety!). Her overall confidence and skills in playing have increased tremendously which she is thrilled with. We purchased packages of 5 at a time and we were happy with Steven's instruction in my home in Katy."

"My daughter started taking piano with Ms. Herring at 7, year and a half ago. Neither my husband nor me play, so I was nervous that I will not be able to help my child with homework, but I had nothing to worry about. Ms. Herring is so good at explaining that I was able to keep up and learn along with my daughter. She makes it exiting for beginner, but also will not let “less than perfect” song slide. Not only did my daughter benefited from this in terms of learning music, but in her confidence as well. It great to see your child play song and then reinterpret it her way and give little performance for the family. Her younger brother just started in September and he is already ready to play little duets with his sister. My kids personalities are polar extremes, but Ms. Herring found a unique approach to each and my son proclaiming that he will keep “taking piano lessons until he graduates from High School” that’s like 12 more years ☺"

"So happy I found Laima!

I recently started taking piano lessons again after not playing for about 24 years since I was a child. I wasn't sure how it was going to be trying to re-learn after forgetting everything and if I would even enjoy it. I have to say I am so happy that Take Lessons recommended Laima to me and am so glad I decided to do it! I am very impressed with Laima's teaching techniques. She makes every lesson very engaging and fun, and I find myself learning quickly because I am really enjoying it and because of her exceptional teaching style. Laima is kind, energetic and an amazingly skilled piano player, singer and teacher. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn. I had a lot of music classes and lessons as a child, and she is the best teacher I've ever had by far."
