Diego is one of Chicago's most sought-after nylon-string guitar coaches and instructors. He has taught over 4000 private lessons and has given lectures and workshops in over 300 universities, elementary schools, and music schools, both nationally and internationally.

He graduated with highest honors in flamenco guitar performance from the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco (Seville, Spain). He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Research Psychology and focuses on studying the psychology of learning, skill acquisition, and expertise related to learning an instrument. With this knowledge, Diego is able to teach and coach guitar with utmost precision and effectiveness.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT FROM PRIVATE LESSONS?

The very first things we'll learn to do in our private lesson will be to RELAX, BE PATIENT, and HAVE FUN. Yes, mastering (or even just getting decent at) the guitar takes time and dedicated work, but it should always be enjoyable, relaxing, and should ...

About Diego
"Diego is a fantastic teacher and guitarist. He is generous and patient, encouraging and effective. Diego has the ability to simplify difficult technique and break it down in simple terms. His studies in Spain make him a rare and sought after teacher in Chicago. In short, Diego has given me the keys to succeed in this beautiful and challenging art form. I wholeheartedly recommend him!"
-- Marty M. (M.A. Education, B.A. Jazz Guitar, Professional Guitarist)

Diego studied flamenco and classical guitar for 21 years and has performed and taught both professionally for 16 years nationally and internationally. He is one of Chicago's most sought-after Spanish, Flamenco, & Classical guitar instructors and coaches and has taught over 5000 private lessons and has given lectures and workshops in over 300 universities, elementary schools, and musi
c schools.

After 15 annual visits to Spain to study with master flamenco teachers, Diego finally moved to Seville for 3 years where he graduated with honors in flamenco guitar performance from the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco. While living in Spain Diego developed his knowledge and skill by performing flamenco guitar 2-4 nights a week with some of Spain's top up and coming flamenco performers. His extensive training and experience in flamenco guitar make him a highly qualified teacher in the field.

Lessons are based on time-tested methods in guitar pedagogy as well as on up-to-date scientific research in the neurological and psychological processes of skill acquisition and expertise. My goal, as a teacher, is to help students learn HOW to practice effectively and efficiently in order to develop the neurological pathways necessary to form, improve, and maintain high-level, musical skills.

WHAT KIND OF GUITAR DO YOU NEED?
For flamenco or classical lessons, you will need a nylon-string guitar (e.g., classical or flamenco), NOT a steel string guitar. If you don't own a nylon-string guitar, you can certainly rent one, but it must be available to you for home practice AT LEAST 6 days/week.

I provide formal classical guitar instruction from beginner to advanced. I studied at the American Conservatory of Music and the Chicago Musical College with Paul Henry in addition to numerous master classes.

About Blake
Hi, my name is Blake. I teach guitar, piano, and singing online and at my Lowell, Indiana studio.

I have been a professional musician - session musician and teacher for 26 years. I was formally trained at the American Conservatory of Music and the Chicago Musical College, both located in Chicago. I won the Presidential Scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance at the American Conservatory of Music and another full-ride scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance to attend the Chicago Musical College.

My primary Classical Guitar Instructor at both institutions was Paul Henry. I also studied Rock Guitar with Dave Uhrich while attending both institutions and privately studied Jazz Guitar with Scott Reed. I studied voice with Audrey Evans at the American Conservatory of Music and Robert Long at the Chicago Musical College.

I h
ave participated in Classical Guitar Master Classes with:
• Hubert Kappel
• Dale Kavanagh
• Eleftheria Kotzia
• Bruce Holzman
• Stephen Aron
• Raphaella Smits
• Richard Provost
• Nicholas Goluses
• William Buonocore.

*** Lesson Details ***

I design lessons individually according to the needs and "wants" of each student. I specialize in developing and correcting technique to improve the student's overall skill. Students that dedicate the time and effort each week to practicing see rapid and sustained results.

However, if you have a busy life and merely want to learn guitar for personal enjoyment, I will design your lessons to develop your skill at a pace that works for you, which can fluctuate according to your schedule.

***Young & Special Needs Students***

I currently teach children as young as 13 years old and adults of any age. When teaching younger children and individuals with special needs, it is significantly beneficial for parents to attend each lesson - I have parent seating available. When parents attend lessons, the parent can assist the younger student while practicing during the week at home.

In my experience, the overall musical development and progress of younger students improve at an increased rate and thoroughness when parents are involved.

***Thoughts on Musical Talent***

Musical talent is a gift. However, correct technique is not easily acquired without proper instruction. Your skill level eventually plateaus, and your ability to learn and perform more complicated music is inhibited unless you have a solid foundation in music theory as it applies to your instrument(s) as well as proper technique.

I can help you build this solid foundation and will guide you through the development of musical skills; correcting flaws in technique is my specialty.

About Dave
Dave K. began playing guitar at the age of 10. His influences include Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Guthrie Govan, Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny and Scott Henderson. At the age of 17 he began teaching private guitar and bass lessons to classmates from his neighborhood high school. It was through this initial experience with teaching that he realized he wanted to make music education his career. Since then he has taught private guitar and bass lessons at Naperville Music, Rossi Music, Horizon Music, and the Plainfield School of Music. In 2000 Dave graduated from the University of Northern Illinois with a degree in jazz and classical guitar where he studied with world-renowned fusion guitarist Fare

*** Lesson Details ***
As a private music instructor for the past 15 years, I personally have been granted the opportunity to teach a wide variety of music students. I have taught students ranging in age from 6 to 65. I have taught students from various ethnic and economic backgrounds. I have taught students with various physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. Regardless of the situation, I have always approached each lesson with the idea that every student deserves my best efforts as a teacher. This is because I believe that everyone, regardless of age, cultural heritage, ability, or financial circumstance deserve the opportunity to participate in the best music experiences possible.

I believe that everyone has the ability to learn to play a musical instrument and achieve success on it if they possess the desire to do so. This is because music is a vital part of the human experience. Music has the ability to turn ordinary life experiences into extraordinary ones. Think of everyday events such as: waking up in the morning, commuting to and from work or school, going through the work or school day, going to dinner with a friend or loved one, going to a sporting event, watching a movie or television show, or working out at the gym. Now, picture what these everyday events would be like without the presence of music. Without music, these experiences would be extremely dull and we as human beings would not be able to full appreciate the wonderful moments in our lives.

As a music educator, my promise is to guide my students through the journey of learning to play music so they can experience the joy that it brings into their lives and the lives of others. I promise to help my students realize their full musical potential. I will always treat each student equally with fairness and respect, provide the best possible atmosphere for their growth, and recognize that each student is unique in how they learn and grow.

Lesson Topics Include

I realize it was the first lesson but I was a little disappointed that we spend nearly the entire time on housekeeping items, like canceling and re-scheduling appointments. I think that could have been covered with an e-mail or handout. I also thought we spent too much time going over the differences between acoustic and electric guitars - considering my age and background. Would have liked to see him demonstrate what I was asked to practice before the next lesson instead of just being told to refer to the workbook.

Classical guitar is hard for some because of the detail within the music. The left hand requires strength, flexibility, and accuracy which is all aspects we will work on. I will show you how to sit, hold, and play guitar in this genre. I will also give you drills that will help both your right and left hand improve to play beautiful classical pieces.

About Sebastian
Playing and learning an instrument is beneficial to ones being because it is a great way to express ones self and it's an excellent stress reliever. It's also an amazing feeling playing an instrument you love to listen to.

Learning any instrument could be daunting at first because there is so much to learn and without any help, could feel overwhelming and hopeless. Do not fret because I am here to assist you!
I have studied many music genres all across the board and have a professional knowledge and comprehension of the theory encompassed behind them. Every lesson is crafted for each student in specific areas they have interest in while being done at the students own pace.

My background history:

I immersed myself in music at a very young age, studying classical piano and theory. In my teenage years I took the initiative to le
arn guitar and began by purchasing my own guitar and books and taught myself to play electrical and classical guitar. I followed my passion and continued my studies at Columbia College and graduated with a bachelors degree in Instrumental Performance.

Post-graduation, I have experienced playing in multiple bands, performing in concerts, teaching piano and guitar ranging in all levels at a music center and private home and enjoying some traveling.

Everything I have learned will be reflected in my lesson methodology and will help you learn to play proficiently in a timely manner. I look forward to meeting new prospective students while having fun teaching them music.

I'm a professional guitarist that will teach you what you want to learn and also give you the skills to sound out music on your own.

About Mason
I started playing guitar when I was 9 and taught myself how to play by listening to recordings and sounding them out. I have taught private lessons for 10 years and group/private lessons prior to that. I've played at Green Mill Jazz Club for 13 years, Millenium Park, Schuba's, Double Door, The MCA, Andy's, pretty much all venues in Chicago... and have toured the country. I play many music styles, so I can teach you mostly anything.

I am a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer who has been teaching all-things-music-related at the college level since 2004. I bring a wide musical perspective to guitar lessons -- if you want to go deeper into theory or musical culture we can go there. I have a background in classical guitar as well as jazz and rock.

About Sheldon
I'm a multi-instrumentalist specializing in teaching guitar. I've been teaching all-things-music at the college level since 2004. I've been teaching guitar and piano since the late 1990s. I think I bring a unique perspective to lessons because of my extremely wide musical background. I've played lots of different instruments in bands and groups -- from trombone in a jazz group, to drums in a nu-metal band, to guitar in a folk group, keyboards in a pop band, and currently I'm playing electronics in an improv industrial band. With all that -- I always come back to guitar. I studied jazz and classical guitar in college along with the usual rock and blues stuff. In lessons, my priority is to help grow a student's musical passion. I believe you can only get as far as your passion takes you. I want you to play music that inspires you
to play more!
