My approach to teaching is simple. The primary goal is to have fun and enjoy the experience of making and creating music. Whether you are interested in pursuing a career in music or just wanting to add a bit of a creative outlet to your life, let me help.

My specialties include jazz, r&b, and pop piano styles. I do teach a little classical but primarily to beginners only. My curriculum is simple. I try to teach you what it is YOU want to know and that which fit your needs. There are some fundamentals that we all must learn, but typically I can have you playing a song your first lesson. As you progress, you will be able to learn to play songs on your own and interpret simple chord charts with melody.

For those students who already actively play, I can help hone your skills, offer performance, recording and studio tips and techniques.

90 and 120 min lessons are only offered to those students wishing to learn production and do NOT apply to piano lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Your lessons are given in my pre-production studio in my condo. Lessons take place on an upright piano. If you are taking production classes, then see the list of gear below. My space is tidy but not always immaculate. I am a working musician and often have several projects juggling at once. There is room for 2 to 3 in addition to the student. My living room is always available and wi-fi for those who wait on a student is also available. More than ample parking is available at any time.

Buzz uses Cubase 9 recording software

"I want to keep taking lessons from Buzz for the rest of my life!"
So said my 10 year old son after his first lesson with Buzz. The same kid who had been begging to quit taking piano lessons with his former teacher situation.
Buzz is a master of "following the student's inspiration." Rather than force a lesson sequence out of a book, Buzz observes the student's own thinking about the music experience and tailors fun learning objectives within or close to the student's inspiration. As a result, my son is much more willing to practice, and has recently "composed" his own piece of music, learned about different styles, and absorbed an impressive amount of music theory. Buzz is highly recommended for any student who has musical aptitude, but requires the right motivation and inspiration.

I have over 30 years experience as a professional guitar instructor and have been actively teaching lessons in Henry County, GA as well as Clayton County, GA. And have branched out to teach online as well. I had actually started teaching friends as a teenager since 1976 where I grew up in N.Y. and those friends still play guitar to this day, a couple have become professional musicians. I started teaching guitar professional in 1983. Over the years I've had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of students at every skill level.

I teach several styles of playing: Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, Funk, Rhythm & Lead guitar playing, Classical guitar and Fingerstyle playing. I teach on electric & acoustic guitar.

I have one basic philosophy in my approach to teaching: get the student to fall in love with the guitar so it becomes a life-long pass
ion. As an instructor, I endeavor to make guitar lessons fun, practical and productive!!! Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, advanced or even at the professional level, I can help you advance your playing skills.

I've had a wonderful experience with Jim, and plan on continuing my weekly lessons with him. His methodology is logical and straightforward, his personality is open-minded, affable, and he's quite the prodigy when it comes to his skill level on guitar. He can fluidly change from a bluesy twang to a warm jazz sound, and switch to a nostalgic riff on the acoustic guitar at a moment's notice. He is everything I could ask for in a teacher, and in the short month that I've been taught by him, my learning curve has steepened with every visit. I'm learning so much from this guy and recommend anyone with an interest in guitar to pursue taking lessons from this guy before everyone else with the right idea books him first!
Sincerely,
An eager pupil

LOCATION:
Mary Frances teaches exclusively from her home studio.

TEACHING OVERVIEW:
Mary Frances has been teaching voice since 1987. She works with youth and adults, beginner and advanced. She helps voice students develop a natural, healthy, beautiful sound, proper placement and projectio
n of the voice for singing and speaking. Her goal is to help singers gain fulfillment and joy while improving their art. She believes music should be fun and rewarding.

VOICE STUDENTS of hers have won university placement and scholarships and have been accepted into Allstate Chorus for High School in Georgia.

She also teaches PIANO. She has taught piano for about 10 years. She studied piano privately for 10 years and had further study at Indiana University.

Students wishing to have any COMBINATION of piano, music theory, sight reading and/or vocal development can receive a program of study that meets their individual needs.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE:
Mary Frances has performed with the Southeastern Savoyards Light Opera Company, the Atlanta Opera Chorus and Studio, the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, Marietta Theater in the Square, and Neighborhood Playhouse. She has sung title roles in Patience, Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel. EDUCATION:
Mary Frances holds a bachelors degree from Indiana University School of Music in both Voice and Theater. Mary Frances was a long time student of Elizabeth Colson (now deceased) of Atlanta, Georgia. She has attended Brevard Music Center, The Georgia State Opera Workshop and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. While in Graz, Mary Frances was a finalist in the Meistersinger competition.

*LESSON DETAILS

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LESSON LENGTH:
Voice students: 30 minutes for young students up to 5th grade. 45 minutes for young students in Middle School and some 5th graders. 45 or 60 minutes preferred for high school students and adults. Piano students: 30 minutes for most beginners of any age. 45 minutes for young intermediate level and adult students.

TEACHING STYLE AND CURRICULUM:
ALL: My teaching style is relaxed yet progressive. I use positive reinforcement to encourage progress with adults and children. Students are allowed to progress at their own pace which varies with age, coordination, processing speed and previous exposure to musical education.

PIANO: I prefer the Alfred'™s Basic Piano Library series for my piano students. I find that my students learn more music theory and music reading with this series. If the student has started lessons in a different series, I can work with that as well. I have a large music library that provides a wide selection of music in addition to the Alfred books. I expect most beginning students to learn basic music reading and theory in 3 to 6 months. They should also to be able to play simple tunes in that time. I am an active professional singer, so I have a large library of vocal material at my disposal.

All piano students are REQUIRED to have an instrument to practice on at home. The piano MUST HAVE AT MINIMUM:
IF Digital - 88 full sized, weighted keys with polyphonic sound ( at least 10 keys should be able to sound at at the same time) and a sustain pedal,
OR - If Accoustic - maintained and properly tuned.

VOICE: I begin my voice lessons with breathing techniques and vocal placement using widely accepted exercises coming from a large body of sources such as:
Vaccai, professional level vocal teachers, coaches and directors that I have worked with and learned from over the last 30 years, and the writings of highly acclaimed authors in the vocal field. I also have a wide selection of art song books, oratorio, musical theatre, and opera. My background is classical and musical theatre, but I believe all styles of singing need the basic skills of breathing and vocal placement. I strive to keep voices healthy as well as find each student's most beautiful sound. Most students will see progress in breath control, range, projection and diction in 3 to 6 months.

Repertoire is chosen on an individual basis depending both physical and musical ability. Younger students and beginners will be encouraged to not push their voices with material that is too difficult for their individual abilities because singing requires a certain amount of physical endurance. My goal is to find each student's natural sound without strain for whatever style he or she
sings.

Voice students are encouraged to bring a recording device to lessons to use for later practice and study.

STUDIO EQUIPMENT AND LIBRARY:
Piano, Computer with Internet Access, Library of Music and Reference Materials (Sample Listing): Alfred's Basic Piano Library Books Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias, Medium High and Medium Low Voice; Schirmer Sing at First Sight; Alfred Basics of Singing by Jan Schmidt; Schirmer Many Soprano Collections of Arias, Oratorio, Sacred, and Art Songs from Schirmer Several Broadway Music Collections from Hal Leonard Discover Your Voice by Oren Brown Training the Speaking Voice by Virgil Anderson International Phonetic Alphabet for Singers by Wall Dynamics of the Singing Voice by Meribeth Bunch Classical Singer Magazine Subscription Journal of Singing, The Official Journal of the National Association of Teachers of Singing,Inc.Subscription

SPECIALTIES:
I am classically trained bel canto voice teacher, but I can work with broadway and pop styles. I teach sight singing for students pursuing auditions for All State Chorus and College entrance, etc. I use the Alfred Basic Piano Series for Piano students

I grew up in Birmingham, AL, Boston, MA, and Cleveland, OH, and was classically trained on violin in all three cities by members of their respective orchestras. Keith is fantastic! He expects the highest level of preparation and performance from me at all my lessons and thus pushes me to be a better performer every time. He tailors my lessons to exactly what I need - specific work for upcoming auditions as well as more general work to expand my repertoire. His lessons are also not not limited singing coaching - he also provides coaching in acting and movement. I feel like I have presented some of my best work to auditors as a result of working with Keith! And he does all this in the friendliest manner possible so that my lessons are always a great combination of fun, hard work, and inspiration.

Dan is a kind, knowledgeable instructor. Being a beginner it is intimidating to try and learn how to sing, at least for me. Dan does a great job of explaining why and what I will be working on, is supportive throughout the lesson, and able to correct flaws in my delivery on the spot.
I am very happy with my lessons so far with Dan and I think you would be as well!

I’m an intermediate singer,24. Dan is such a great vocal coach! Very comfortable to be around. He is very knowledgeable in what he does and knows how to take your voice to the next level! I’ve been with him for a few months and have learned so much about my voice and have become an even better singer. He truely does tailor to each individual’s voice and I’m so happy that I chose him! Five stars!

I am a adult complete beginner singer and Dan was amazing. He takes the time to work out how you learn best and customizes his approach. He is incredibly patient, supportive and observant. He notices the smallest things and shows you how to tweak them so you start making immediate progress. The one hour lesson flies by and I have lots of great homework for the next week. i feel like I am now making real progress
