Today was my first lesson and I was very apprehensive of my ability as well as the whole lesson experience. (because of my age) Kenneth, made me feel very comfortable and he made me feel that my voice could get even better with the techniques that he will teach me. I feel very positive about going forward with my lessons.

About Letha
With a performance degree from the University of Georgia, teaching certification from Georgia State and over 25 years of professional teaching experience, I am able to offer my students a diverse range of instructional resources.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons include a warmup, music theory work, vocal or instrumental technique and then a vast selection of song repertoire to support new ideas in both technique and theory. Students are directed to watch or listen to examples of master performances in their field of studies. Clear weekly goals are made between lessons and I am always encouraging! Whatever life throws at you during the week doesn't have to stop your studies cold- we will come up with a plan that fits your lifestyle.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a small Protools setup with microphones and a Kurzwell keyboard. I
like to be able to go online for some resources.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I regularly use the internet in lessons as well as standard published educational texts.

*** Specialties ***
I have been told that I am especially good at helping people make the jump from playing by rote to reading from the page. In vocal instruction, I am familiar with three schools of technique: the psycho-imagery school, the "anatomical" school, and the Italian "open throat" approach. My background in acting also contributes basic vocal projection techniques to vocal training. I am comfortable with all genres of music, including pop, rock, soul, R&B, gospel, jazz and opera. In instrumental studies, I am a woodwind doubler, reading fluently and transposing on-the-spot . As a jazz and gospel artist I improvise primarily on the flute and saxophone. My piano skills are equivalent to a second-year college piano major. I can improvise accompaniments as well as read piano scores. In addition to being a certified teacher in Georgia, I attained national certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2004.

Music is my passion, my hobby, my career and my gift. I have been performing since age 7 and teaching for the last 25 years. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in music and love to share my knowledge and experience with all ages and aptitudes - even special needs. My approach to teaching is fun but serious, laid-back but encouraging, demanding but forgiving. I teach students how to be disciplined with their practice and how to make the most of their limited time.

*** Lesson Details ***
I can help you achieve your goals! For those who want a well-rounded music education, I include music theory (note and rhythm reading), technique, ear training, improvisation and performance practice in my curriculum using a variety of methods. I enjoy working with adults interested in picking up their instrument after a number of years. P
erhaps you are someone interested in pursuing an ability to play a certain style - pop, jazz, hymns, oldies, classics, or certain artists. I customize our lessons to match your objectives.
My students have an opportunity to perform publicly several times a year which encourages practice and also builds confidence. After a few lessons, I can provide an idea of where a student will be in 3-6 months. You can always expect to find me prepared with fun ideas for our lesson. I have a grand piano as well as several keyboards to add variety and fun to our lessons.

Shannon is an excellent teacher. She makes the lessons fun. She helps the student feel confident in their abilities. Shannon encourages the student to meet the challenges they face. She understands each of her student's strengths and challenges and develops individualized lessons to meet their needs. She helps students feel comfortable during her lessons and makes sure they can practice independently with confidence. She hosts recitals so her students have chance to show off their skills and socialize with each other. I would highly recommend Shannon as a piano teacher.

He meets the kids where they are and gets them to grow fro there by making learning fun. He sometimes lets them lead in one direction, but challenges them to go further. He has a flexible teaching style that allows him to individualize the curriculum with methods that are best suited to the individual student's way of learning. He has exposed my girls to an array of music genres and even allows them to participate in song selection. He does all of this while instructing in theory, technique, and performance. As a pianist, I appreciate the excellence that he imparts to his students. I am pleased with the progress my girls have made under his tutelage and am excited to see what lies ahead!

Jimmie arrived on-time and ready to start. He dove right into getting to know my son and started teaching him on bells and learning rhythm since that`s what my son will be expected to know for his first year of band in the fall.
He was very good at connecting with my son and easily had him enjoying the lesson.
You can tell Jimmie has a passion for teaching children and his face lit up talking about it. He heaped praise on my sons accomplishments and my son said he truly enjoyed the lesson and can`t wait for next week.
I`d highly recommend him to teach your child. I don`t think you`d find someone else with the same passion for children. So glad I made the decision to hire Jimmie and look forward to many years of him being involved in developing my son into a awesome musician.
Thank you Jimmie!
