About Julie
I am passionate about Music and Music Education. It's rewarding for me to watch my students develop in their musical skill and enjoy making music more and more. My students range from the very young (5 years old) to school age children, to teens, and adults. My students benefit from my expertise in teaching Vocal and Piano music, my knowledge of Music Theory, and my encouraging teaching style. I have been involved in making music since I was a young child, and I have been teaching private students since I was a Music major at the University of Florida in 1982 when a fellow college student asked me to teach her voice lessons. I have a Music Education degree from the University of Florida; my major instrument was Voice, my minor was Piano. I taught as a public school music educator in Florida, California, and Tennessee between the years
of 1983 to 1997. I taught private students after school in my classroom while I was a public school teacher, and from my home since 1997. My post-graduate continuing professional education includes Tennessee Arts Academy at Belmont University, Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1 (vocal teaching techniques, do-re-mi, ear training), Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification, Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Piano Lab certification. My professionalism and expertise are at your service. I will work together with you to insure an enjoyable and informative learning experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.

For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.

In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.

For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.

My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential.
After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide three Studio Class performances (February, June, October) and one recital opportunity (December) a year. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
PIANO lessons in Living Room: piano near front entryway, couch, loveseat, over-sized chair, dining room table, open space, end table with chair, parents may sit in on lesson.

SINGING lessons in Recording Studio: keyboard, recording equipment, desk, 2 chairs, music stand, microphone, private room. Parents may wait in adjacent rec room or sit in on lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson books, the students should provide their instrument.

I do have a mobile keyboard to bring for SINGING lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1

Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification

Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Lab certified instructor

Over the years I have taught English to students of all races, nationalities and ethnicities. Additionally, living in New York, an extremely diverse city, has necessitated great flexibility on my part. I teach reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and proper pronunciation, but because I work with so many "non-native speakers", I have learned to be very patient and methodical in my approach, customizing the lesson to each student and breaking the steps down as much as is necessary. I have also become quite familiar with many of the handicaps associated with specific ethnic groups when trying to learn English. Overall, as an English teacher I welcome the additional challenge and I always look forward to the opportunity for cultural exchange as well.

About Anne-Marie
Hi, I'm Anne-Marie and I love to teach! I have been teaching for over 25 years and whether the subject is English, Music, College Prep or Italian, I love helping students reach their goals. I work hard to leave my students enlightened, encouraged and empowered. I have high standards and I really like to challenge students to achieve their full potential, but I also try to make the process interesting, engaging and fun. I'm patient, easygoing and I enjoy working with students of all ages and backgrounds. I always strive to get to know my students (and their needs) very well. Then I customize lessons according to need, aptitude and goals. One of the best parts of teaching for me is meeting and connecting with new people, and making a difference in their lives, so I really look forward to meeting and working with you!

I have being taking English classes since I was 6 years old, all the way to the second year of college. It ranged from the basics, of course, to grammar, phrases, and literature. Some of the requirements for graduation were to write poems, essays and opinions on novels or scripts and the history of literature in the United States, Spain and Puerto Rico. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Political Science with minors in French, Spanish and English. I have been teaching English as a second language (ESL) for over 2 years now. It started with a friend and fellow teacher's request to teach 2 Spanish-speaking small business owners which wanted to speak English fluently to communicate with their customers. They are the ones who have inspired me to add this subject here at WyzAnt to give others the opportunity to learn with me. They were very satisfied and are doing better in their businesses. What they like the most about my lessons is that I don't teach using boring grammar, verb conjugation ...

About Leonardo
Doing what I love: teaching, training, interacting with people. I retired from the army after 28 years of active and reserve military service, so now I have time to do privately what I did for the army for so many years: teach and train people. For many years I presented seminars in Spanish and English in Central and South America as well as the Caribbean on many subjects to adults of all ranks. I am a Florida State Certified Spanish teacher. My Bachelor's degree is in Political Science from the University of Puerto Rico, and I hold minors in History and French. I am (since 1993) a financial adviser (stock broker, RIA) and a licensed insurance agent, which is my other passion and area of expertise. This tutoring for me is not a job; it is a passion, just another way I do what I love - teaching, advising and interacting with people. I
f this sounds like what you want, hope to hear from you soon.

I have a teaching experience of ESL of more than 24 years in Cuba. I have taught in colleges, for students with different academic interests, and for graduates who wanted to improve their proficiency in this language. I have also trained teachers of ESL at the language school where I worked.

In my teaching I use a communicative approach with meaningful exchanges but with a solid foundation of the formal aspects of the language too, so that students can move forward safely. I pay attention to individual differences so that each student can progress at his/her own pace with ease.

At intermediate and advanced levels I always favor the use of meaningful discussions and debate about updated issues, so that students learn how to express their opinions and ideas properly in different contexts.

I believe in creating a friendly atmosphere with meaningful human exchanges throughout my lessons.

About Carlos
I have been a language teacher for more than 24 years. I have a B.A. in English Language and Literature and my curriculum includes several subjects related to Spanish grammar, composition, phonetics and literature, so apart from being my native language (I am Cuban) I have the necessary academic knowledge to teach Spanish to speakers of other languages.

I have worked mainly with adults in colleges and language schools. At the university level I worked with students from different professional interests, so I am familiar with teaching the language for specific academic skills. I have also tutored individual adults and teenagers. At present I am also teaching children in an after school program.

In my teaching I favor the communicative approach with meaningful exchanges and with a solid foundation on the formal aspects of the langua
ge too. I also pay attention to individual needs so that students can progress at their own pace.

At the intermediate and advanced levels I favor the use of meaningful discussions and debate about updated issues, so that the students can learn how to express their true opinions and ideas properly in different contexts.

I believe in fostering a friendly atmosphere and making the teaching experience a meaningful human exchange.

The Complete List of English Idioms, Proverbs, & Expressions
Although English idioms don't make sense at first, these unique expressions (together with proverbs) add substance and humor to our conversations. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word "idiom" as a: "group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words (e.g. over the moon, see the light)." This means that English idioms should not be taken literally, because their meaning is metaphorical. You don't really wish someone would “break a le
