I would like nothing better than to help you discover and develop your voice's greatest potential. Singing embodies many elements including proper tone production, rhythmic accuracy, proper diction and connecting to and sharing the emotional content of a song. It is a personal journey for singers to learn how to integrate all those elements into their own instruments and I will act as your trusted and supportive guide throughout the process. I have a master's degree in classical vocal performance from the renowned Manhattan School of Music and performed with opera companies in New York City. Currently, in New Orleans, I sing with the joyous Shades of Praise interracial gospel choir. I have had the privilege of studying with some of the finest voice teachers, conductors and coaches that America has to offer and I would love to share that combined knowledge with others. I have also had the agonizing and humbling experience of losing and rebuilding my voice after medical difficulties, ...

Hello fellow singers! My goal is to help you refine your own unique instrument and help you to express a story and art through the voice!
I grew up taking piano lessons and singing in my church and school choir. I always had a love for all classical music and soon enough fell in love with opera! I begin taking classical voice lessons at the age of 15 and soon realized that my heart and soul belonged to opera and had to continue my studies a lot more in depth.
I went to UCLA where I received my Bachelor of Arts with my emphasis in Opera Performance. Throughout the years spent at UCLA, I not only continued to sing with choral groups, but also performed in every opera. I sang one of the principles roles in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges, and sang one of the principles roles in many opera scenes such as Dorabella from Così fan tutte, Mercedes in Carmen, Second Lady in The Magic Flute, Nerone in L'incorazione di Poppea.
Since I graduated college I have collaborated with ...

Learn how the pros do it!
If you want to learn pop, I'll teach you the same techniques used by Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi, Mick Jagger, and more... because I study with their teacher!
If you want to learn Opera, learn to tackle any audition, gig, or recording session just like Marilyn Horne did. I've got exercises from teachers at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, and from Marilyn Horne herself to get you right on top of your game!
I've been singing professionally for 16 years. I've sung my own show at Carnegie Hall. I was Gaston in the national tour of Beauty and the Beast and I never missed one of our 326 shows. I can get you on the Gaston regimen in as little as one lesson.
Please message me with your availability and describe your goals before you purchase a lesson.

Before I started my lessons with Christiaan I would blow my voice out during extended singing sessions and knew I needed to find a vocal coach with the expertise to help me to prevent permanent damage. He quickly identified my strengths and weaknesses and gave me many tools and techniques I never even thought I'd be capable of.
Christiaan has an amazing teaching style and always brings positive energy to each lesson. He knows how to offer constructive criticism in a gentle way that makes you excited to want to do better.
I'm much more motivated and confident as a singer-songwriter as a result of these lessons and I can't thank him enough for bringing that element to my life.
We worked together for a grad school audition for vocal performance. I would not have got the offer without Christiaan. He was super helpful, patient, and really helped me become a better singer/performer! Definitely recommend his lessons!

When I first begin teaching a student, I tell them that everyone has the ability to sing well no matter his or her experience. I also tell them that there are four things that a good singer must have: breathe control (air is your fuel, and must be used efficiently and effectively to give you the best sound), posture (in order to have access to your air and prevent vocal damage you must practice good posture habits), diction (how you pronounce words when singing can impede or improve vocal tone, as well as help or hinder the audience in understanding the lyrics) and finally and most importantly, passion. Passion is how emotionally connected you are to music and is what really allows the singer to connect with his or her audience.

I came to Jamie as an amateur wanting to improve my ability and skill in singing, and can absolutely attest my singing ability has grown by leaps and bounds in working with him.
Jamie has been fantastic in teaching me the skills needed to improve, including technique, expanding my vocal range, improving pitch & tone, reading and sight singing music, singing harmony, phrasing, and overall dramatically improving my ear. Jamie does a great job of continuing to raise the bar as I am ready for each next level, so I continue to see a steady rate of growth in my abilities.
Jamie is also great to work with on a personal level. His lessons are a good balance of fun, the right amount of challenging (so you actually improve), & satisfying. His teaching style is helping you walk the walk through specific ways to improve, which is in my opinion the fastest and most quality way to learn. I highly recommend Jamie to those at any skill level!"
