All of my current students have developed confidence and enthusiasm to learn all materials presented in an easy to comprehend format.

Each student learns at different levels so all lessons are customized to challenge them but also insure they learn and retain all materials presented to them.

Currently have 16 students ranging from beginners to advanced level.
When selecting a teacher, make arrangements to meet in person to review short and long term goals of learning a musical instrument. Pricing should only be used as the last criteria before making a final decision. It's important to insure your instructor is patient and willing to challenge students to setup a practice routine that will fit their current schedule.

If a student needs an instrument, have instructor give recommendations based on the musical styles they are interested in learning.

I've been teaching guitar since 2012, and will help foster a love of music with no pressure! All ages are welcome. Beginner to advanced. I cater to the student's musical interests and pace. With just the right dose of music theory, and modern guitar techniques, I'll show you the way to become a creative, polished, and most importantly, listenable musician. Guitar students start with five subjects.

1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.

2) Scales are a part of basic music vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.

3) Chords are also basic vocabulary of the musical language.

4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the students' goals. However, I strongly encourage everyone learn to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?

5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. The student chooses what songs they want to play, guided by my suggestions; Jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R &B - "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?"

I've been teaching guitar for 6 years and love seeing my students discover their own musicality and style through guitar! I specialize in teaching school-age kids, teens, adult beginners, and secondary instrument learners.

As a beginner, you’ll learn to keep your strumming steady while changing between 2-5 basic chords within a few lessons. You will find in just a few lessons that the songs you know and love are actually accessible and playable! With continued practice, you’ll start to create your own songs using the chords you know, and you will learn more complex chords, strumming patterns, fingerpicking, transposing, and reading melodies on the staff.

I'll make your lessons meaningful to you, by creating many of my own visual aids to meet your level and interests. We will blend your favorite modern genres with “classic” and “classical” tunes, and explore composition and songwriting along the way! Joel is an accomplished performer, composer, songwriter, and educator who draws from several pedagogical techniques to create a curriculum that is fun, active, inquiry-based, and student-driven. He is a professionally licensed K-12 music teacher in the state of Colorado with a master's degree in music education who has taught in public schools and privately for 5 years.
