He is also a brilliant composer, and is an excellent composition teacher as well! Although my lessons were mostly focused on violin, he provided much useful advice for improving my compositions for orchestra and symphonic band as well.
I highly recommend Kris as an instructor for music students of any proficiency level!

I would assess the student's capability and begin with the level appropriate for the student. For new students with no experience, I would start out with simple hand positioning and playing the piano firsthand. We'll learn as we go with fine details of reading notation and techniques. I will introduce one or two subject to cover for each lesson. For students that have more experience and are at the beginner level, I will introduce technical practices and assign a piece of music. As for intermediate and advance, we will cover technical practice, assigned music, and music theory.

I am a passionate, energetic, humorous, patient cello and piano instructor. I have been teaching since 2008. Within these years, I taught the private lesson, group lesson, music theory and studio class of all ages and all levels. One of my ten years old student got the highest score of the Asian-Pacific Region in Grade two cello exam of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music only after one year learning from me. I have abundant experiences for helping students not only learning music but also enjoying lots of fun from it. I also helped my students for preparing their solo recitals, summer festival auditions, competitions, and performing arts high school auditions. I am sure you will full in love with the sound you make after learning from me. Let me help you to accomplish your aspirations.

Directed toward beginners, my approach will focus on simple music structures, basic fingering techniques, and other fundamentals while learning how music is built and structured. Students will play from simple music charts as well as learning to develop a musical "ear." Music theory is an understanding of how music is a composite of related components which is critical for interpreting, learning and performing. Piano is learned in the context of a music theory framework.

My 6 year old is well... a 6 year old but Dr. J is so patient with her and has already taught her so many new skills in just a few short lessons. He keeps the lessons fun but is able to refocus her on her lessons. Dr. J is an overall amazing musician that is very skilled in a variety of musical techniques. He is also very professional and extremely reliable (even in inclement weather). I would recommend Dr. J to any family that is wanting their child to learn how to play music.

I’m passionate about music education and I am a full time music teacher and active performer throughout the SE Michigan area.
Lessons are designed and catered around each student and I believe in a well rounded approach in teaching music. While everyone will learn a solid foundation of note reading and playing technique, lessons also pull from sources such as music theory, ear training, music history, etc.
I hold a Masters in Piano Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London and a Bachelors in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan.
Whether you’re looking to learn a new hobby, or further your musical skills, I’d love to help out. All levels welcome!
