Many people want to be able to play their musical instrument by ear training. An important part of ear training is learning the intervals (musical distance) between notes you hear. This is something that got touched on when I was a music major in school & college. I taught myself intervals related to common songs I've heard. By applying this knowledge to the guitar, my fingers will automatically go to the right notes I am "hearing in my head" without really thinking about it...it bypasses my intellect. This can really help decide which position to play a certain musical phrase on a guitar, for example. On an intermediate level, I can train your ear to tell the difference between major chords, minor chords & more complex chords. I can show you how to find the first note or chord of a song. Then you can learn how to tell what the next chords are in a song, based on its relationship with the first chord. Also whether your instrument is in tune with other instruments or recordings. Advanced lessons would include evaluating complex chords by ear, chord inversions, chord progressions, "exotic" scales, microtonal bending of notes & how they effect the listener, how psychoacoustics can play a part in instrumental soloing & note choice, and other subjects.

The Semper Method uses games and exercises that develop Ear Training. The system is Listen, Sing, Clap, Play, Read & Write. You start with listening at a whole new level. The program goes at exactly your speed. We have an entire program that will help you to refine and develop your ear, for singing, playing and listening. An integrated approach: Music almost always involves several skills. Below are some of the complementary skills that I can help you with. In my Semper Method, we always address several of them at every session. For example, we record, sing and play all the time. To sing you should be able to pick out intervals at the piano, or better yet, accompany yourself and everyone needs some music theory. So it really is all one thing. Accompaniment, Arrangement and Composition, Audio Engineering, Audition Prep, Composition, Ear Training, Film Scoring, Jazz Voice, Logic Pro Software, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Piano, Singing, Songwriting, Spoken Word, Vocal Training.

Ear training. Sounds scary, but it is actually a ton of fun. I love it. I do it with all my students. If you are already serious about music, easy training will deepen your ability to hear and respond, compose and improvise. If you are a regular human, ear training will open your mind and sharpen it.
