Meet Joseph W., this week’s Rock Star Teacher of the Week who teaches piano lessons in the Portland, Oregon area. A piano student since age 7, Joseph has experience teaching private piano lessons to students of all ages (as young as 5 and as old as 70), teaching music in elementary school classes, and tutoring other college students. After graduating from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Joseph worked at Carnegie Hall before recently relocating to Portland.
According to Joseph, “My entire life has been surrounded by music and I’m looking to share that love for music with my students. Music can dramatically shape and enhance a person’s life, and particularly for the younger generation, as music and the arts becomes less emphasized in the public school system, it becomes increasingly important for children to experience music in other scenarios, such as private lessons.” In fact, Joseph is currently working to organize a recital for his students and is looking to connect with other Portland music teachers to make this recital a great experience for all involved.
