Oldest Holocaust Survivor Shares Secret to Happiness

At 110, Alice Herz Sommer was the world’s oldest living Holocaust survivor. In addition, she was an incredibly joyful person and an amazing example of triumph over adversity and horrifying circumstances. The thing that saved her life was also Alice’s biggest source of joy: music.

“The Lady in Number 6” traces Alice’s story from her time in a concentration camp to her retirement. Through it all, Alice shows an incredible strength of spirit and delight in living. The film won an Oscar in 2014 for Best Documentary Short.

See Alice in action in the trailer below, and make sure you have some tissues handy.

Although Alice passed away in February of this year, her legacy will live on in this film. We are lucky to have this film documenting Alice’s spirit so her message can spread throughout the world. Even in the most difficult times, we can always find beauty and joy in life if we know where to look.
