My passion is teaching! I could search my whole life, and never find anything I enjoy doing more. You could call it my "calling," for lack of a better term. That's probably why I've been so successful in my career. I've taught students as young as 4 years old, and students who are in retirement.
The success I've had, comes with years of taking private lessons, performing, studying, and always keeping an open mind to new ideas, and relating my experience with all my students.

Well, I have come some ways since then! As a graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a BA in Percussion Performance (Magna Cum Laude) and many year's experience on the road, I have developed the wonderful craft of music making into a professional career.
Being a native of Chicago has built in me a very diverse musical background; exposure to the city's vast range of cultural scenes have enabled me to gain a strong sense of Funk, Rock, Blues, Afro-Cuban, Hip Hop, Jazz, Electronic and Pop.

Hello, my name is Brian and I am currently studying my Bachelor's in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music. It is the only college in the world that specializes in specifically Music Education, and has been since 1909. The school teaches us a basic understanding of 17 instruments and voice, while also teaching theory, aural skills, music history, professional ed courses, and includes a large number of various ensembles. Because of this, I'm able to teach some basic concepts on all of the band/orchestra instruments. Personally, I started taking piano lessons in 2000 and started drum set lessons in 2002. I have studied the guitar for over fifteen years, and have been teaching students of all ages for the last twelve. Specializing in lead rock guitar and acoustic folk, I have had the pleasure to perform and record with over a dozen acts at a variety of venues and studios across the Chicagoland area. In addition to guitar instruction, I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2006 with a degree in Audio Arts and Acoustics, which has allowed me to work as a professional Acoustical Technician, Audio Engineer and Audio Instructor for a variety of companies in many different capacities.

I'm a extremely versatile guitarist that plays a range of styles from blues, classical, jazz, metal, country, bluegrass, and rock. Growing up in the western suburbs of Chicago, I was exposed to the sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Muddy Waters at a young age and frequently practiced air guitar, especially after hearing Metallica on MTV as a teenager. At the age of 14, I had discovered my favorite thing to do and found others to play music with. After playing in high school groups, writing, recording, and personal study, I attended Columbia College Chicago for my bachelor of arts with a focus on learning the language of jazz. I have been a guitarist since the age of 13, so that has been 47 years so far! A long time and I have learned so much about playing the guitar during those years. I have been a professional guitarist for many, many years. Actually, I played my first professional gig about 2 weeks after I had first started playing guitar. I really didn't know what I was doing, but I did not know any better! And I played in rock bands through high school and we played professionally at local parties, and that was a ton of fun!

Educationally, I studied at the American Conservatory of Music, studying harmony, theory and classical guitar. At the same time I was at that school, I studied privately for 8 years with famed classical guitar teacher Jack Cecchini. I played in the masterclasses of Oscar Ghiglia (Segovia's prodigy) and Manuel Barrueco. Both of these great players are world famous classical guitarists.

I've been teaching guitar professionally since I've been 17 and I've taught a wide range of musicals styles from Jazz, Blues, Fusion, to Rock you name it. My first experience with the instrument was 8 years ago and since then I haven't put it down. Early on in my teaching career I found that it's important for students to have the drive to learn, but it's more important to have someone that can guide them in the right direction. I believe the role of a teacher is not only to instill that drive, but to fuel the fire of their imaginations through fun and effective exercises. I've had the pleasure of teaching students ranging from 5 to 60 years of age and have found that the fundamentals of playing are applied across the map.

I'm currently attending Columbia College of Chicago and I'll be receiving my bachelors in instrumental performance mid May. I've studied under some great players such as Frank Dawson, Harry Hmura, Chris Forte and currently studying under Peter Lerner.
