About Me

Hello Students!
My name is Michelle and I have been dancing since I was seven years old! I was one of two graduates to earn my Bachelor of Fine Art in Dance/Dance Pedagogy from Columbia College Chicago in 2011. I have since moved back to New York City where I dance for a professional modern dance company in downtown Manhattan. When I am not teaching class, I am busy being a student of my own all over New York City at prestigious studios such as Steps on Broadway, Gibney Dance Center and Broadway Dance Center. It is here where I take daily classes with the country's greatest dance teachers/choreographers to continue my never ending training in dance techniques and developments.

As a working professional dancer, I understand the rigor that it takes to achieve your goals and I work with my students one on one to achieve them! I have had the honor of training with the greatest dancers in the business to help me achieve my goals such as David Dorfman, Joe Goode, Alexandra Beller, Kendra Portier, and Oliver Steele.

Dancing and teaching dance are my greatest passions in life and I want to share them with students of all ages from 18 months to 100 years old!

Thank you for visiting my profile and I hope to teach you soon!
Michelle

Angel graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Puerto Rico in 2000 and was accepted to and attended the University of Puerto Rico, Bachelors of Music. At the University of Puerto Rico, Angel founded Sueo Latino, an organization of 40 students dedicated to music, dance and theater. In 2001, Angel was accepted and transfer to the School of Music at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Bachelors of Music Performance (Classical Music). His voice teacher at the time, Dr. Kay Lowe, dubbed Angel her young Ricky MartinÂÂť a famous Puerto Rican Pop Star. In 2003, as if he hadn't done enough, Angel got accepted to the most prestigious School of Music in the United States, Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Today, Angel holds a Voice Performance / Music Business degree from this institution as well as minors in Piano and Guitar.

What to expect on your first lesson?

On your first lesson I will do a complete evaluation of your proficiency level on the instrument of choice. We will talk about what we will be working on for the first couple of weeks and how we will move forward at your own tempo. I like to tailor private lessons to each student individually as each of my student come from different backgrounds and at different levels.

How long before you see any progress?

It is my experience that in some cases people can notice progress during their first lesson. But if the student practice at least 45 minutes daily their instrument we should both, myself and the student, see progress within the first 2 to 3 lessons.

As a teenager, she attended the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan and went on to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. While she was there, she realized her love of teaching when she tutored struggling piano and music theory students.

In Chicago, her credits include: The Comedy of Errors, Macbeth, Jersey Shore: The Musical, Jack and the Beanstalk, Theatre of Women 6, Pirates of Penzance, Change the Night Owl, and her own solo cabaret "Should I Be Sweet?"

*** Lesson Details ***
I have a very good balance in my lessons of nurturing the student, but also pushing the student to his or her highest potential. I always remain encouraging and supportive. I spend about a third of the lesson on technique work and I always encourage students to bring in their own material that we can work on as well. You will get excellent vocal and piano technique from me, but you will also learn to have fun and appreciate the ease and relaxation of singing and playing piano.

*** Studio Equipment ***
F/w keyboard, seating for parents - main room

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in musical theater singing, especially preparation for any auditions (singing or acting) for shows, college auditions, etc. Musical theater is my main passion, but I also focus a lot on pop music. I am especially experienced in introducing newbies to singing or piano.

Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Dance, Flexibility Training, Modern Dance

About Me

Brigette is a Freelance Dancer, Choreographer, and Performer based in Miami, FL. She received her BFA in dance (with honors, summa cum laude) from the New World School of the Arts in Miami in 2011.
Brigette has been dancing professionally since 2009 and has dedicated her life since a very young age to the art of dance. Due to her extensive dance training that began in her youth, Brigette speaks the language of dance and offers a wide range of dance education services for all skill levels of dance lovers, including flexibility training, modern dance class, and much more!

*** Lesson Details ***
All Ages: From the basics to assistance with the most advanced of dance techniques, I can offer you extensive coaching and insights to improving your dancing abilities.

If you are interesting in becoming more flexible, learning to stretch as dancers do, or learning to meditate in the most basic way, (or a combination of the those,) set up lessons with me and I will share my extensive knowledge with you, coaching you along the way.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Floors:
- Slight Bounce ~ It's important for a dance studio to have a sprung dance floor - this allows for proper shock absorption when jumping and dancing.
- No Texture ~ Most contemporary dance studios have a marly (smooth rubber plastic combination) flooring laid on top of the sprung floor foundation which makes for a softer dance floor and wears less on a dancer's knees when practicing modern dance (in comparison to a wooden dance floor).

Mirrors:
Mirrors come in handy for beginners to be able to keep an eye on themselves while watching and following the dance teacher during guided exercises.

Ballet Barre:
A ballet barre will be used in the training of ballet as it is a classic fundamental in the warm up and practice of classical, neoclassical, and contemporary ballet.

*** Travel Equipment ***
What you'll need for your in-home dance lessons with me:

1. Make room! Find an area of your house that provides you enough space to kick your legs, lie on the floor, and spin in circles with your arms open, without knocking over or hitting anything with your body. This way you can ensure there's enough room for us to dance and me to train you efficiently. If there are items in the way, this provides a potential safety hazard.

2. Check the floor quality. Wood floors are perfect because they provide a spring and shock absorption when jumping. Concrete and tile are not recommended for dancing. If you only have concrete and/or tile, I recommend that a rug be put down so that there is adequate cushion to prevent injury, and I can adjust my class for you so that we don't do specific movements that would be dangerous on a harder floor. Carpet is a bit too cushiony for dance, but can be worked with as well.

What you'll need for in-home stretching, meditation, or flexibility classes with me:

1. Make room! Find an area in your home where you and another person can lay on the floor with arms and legs extended. A good test for this is to see if two adults make "snow angels" simultaneously without hitting/touching each other or any other item in the room (including walls!).

2. A towel or yoga mat so that your face and body do not have to be in direct contact with the floor.
