About Me

My journey in music began when I was around 5 years old and first heard the children's choir sing in church. My mother used to tell me that I would beg her to let me sing in the choir but she would always have to tell me I wasn't old enough. As soon as I was old enough, she enrolled me in church choir and I've been in it ever since.

I have performed with the Rochester symphony orchestra and chorale, Rochester community band, Rochester civic music, church choirs and orchestras, Lake of the Isles community band, and performed Handel's Messiah at Carnegie hall in New York City. I've done some acting and singing in musicals as well.

As I got older, I discovered playing the clarinet was fun but never gave up singing. I just did them both. After becoming proficient on clarinet, I explored flute, oboe, saxophone, piano and lastly, the celtic harp.

My philosophy on teaching is "you are never too old to experience the joy of making music on whatever instrument you choose and I will strive to help you discover your hidden musical talents".

During my 20+ years of teaching, I've had many students perform with local youth orchestras, receive superior ratings in high school music competitions, win concerto competitions, be excepted to perform with the Rochester Symphony Orchestra in their playing with the pros program and go on to college to major or minor in music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Music should be fun and not a chore so I like to really get to know my students and structure their lessons in a way so the student has fun but also feels like they have learned something new or plays or sings something better than they did when they arrived.

I expect a student to schedule time in his/her week to practice since my most successful students excel in their school bands and go on to perform with local youth orchestras and other ensembles. I will remind students that they will get back what they put into it.

Listed below is my expertise level on the instruments I feel comfortable teaching.

Flute: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Clarinet: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Oboe: beginner to intermediate (all ages)
Saxophone: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Piano: beginner only (children)
Singing: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Celtic harp: beginner to intermediate (all ages)
Music theory: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Reading: beginner to advanced (all ages)

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have music, piano, CD player, musical instruments and a music stand available at the studio.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my instruments and some music but not all. If there is a piece of music at my studio which the student is interested in looking at, I will make arrangements to bring it with me to your next lesson.

Students at home should have an instrument, a good music stand and a quiet area set aside for the lesson. Pets should be kept in an area other than where the lesson will be taught.

*** Specialties ***
Broadway, showtunes, classical, popular, jazz, religious styles

Eugene P. Purchase, NY

Subjects Taught

Baking, Crocheting, Desserts, Flute, Opera Voice, Piano, Spanish

About Me

I am currently enrolled as a student of the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College working toward a Bachelor of Opera Performance and Vocal Studies. I am also enrolled as a Spanish and Italian Language and Culture minor. I have finished three semesters (including 89 credits) and have a GPA of 4.11.

I have a few years of experience interpreting and translating for Spanish speaking families in public schools. Additionally, I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students in Spanish. I also teach online Spanish courses. I have helped college students with grammar and have proofread their compositions for College Writing courses. I have held study sessions with college students to prepare for ear training, music theory, and sight singing midterms and finals. I have also taught private instruction for flute and piano for three years. I am comfortable tutoring multiple students at once, but also enjoy providing individual instruction. I offer tutoring at your home, my studio, and even via video chat. I make learning fun for students by engaging them in active learning. If I am working a group tutoring session, I play group games to help support positive energy and encouragement. If I am working a one-on-one tutoring session, I incorporate the same method of playing games as well as written work. When I give private music instruction, I incorporate fun and relatable music for students. I also allow students to introduce their own music to lessons. I have found that methods, such as board games (that include speaking and writing) and familiar music for music students, can be very effective as opposed to traditional instructional methods.

I currently teach an online Spanish course. This course covers material that helps beginner students advance quickly to the intermediate level. The idea is to apply rudimentary and fundamental skills quickly and progress respectively while continuing to use advancing skills in everyday life. If you are interested in what is on my syllabus, please contact me. I also tutor Spanish to students privately (also via Skype - video chat) at all levels. I started learning Spanish when I was three years of age. I attended Parochial school where learning a second language was required. The language has stuck with me ever since and I have continued to learn new ways of teaching. I continue to learn new languages which reminds me of the difficulties of learning language. - This helps me better to relate to my student's difficulties and how to help them in the most positive, encouraging, and constructive manner.

I started studying piano when I was in elementary school. I studied with the same teacher until I graduated from high school. When I went to college, I started lessons with a new teacher. In high school, I accompanied both the middle school and high school select ensembles for three years. In addition, I also played piano in the jazz band for one year and played at a music festival. I received successful adjudications at solo festivals throughout grade school. I've played for music festival soloists, camp auditions, and college auditions. Last year, I was hired as the musical director for a locally produced musical. This position entailed teaching and rehearsing the music as well as playing the show on piano (for the performances). I currently work at a local church, where I am their resident pianist. I play preludes and postludes (usually of the Classical repertoire) as well as the proper and ordinary hymns. I also accompany any choir rehearsals they may have.

Just this past year I decided to make two books (for my piano students). These books are not of my original work, but accumulated work from books that I own. The first book being a repertoire book (levels Primer through Three) and the second book being a Technique & Artistry book (all levels). These books are meant to accommodate all needs of the student with necessary materials to learn and progress in piano studies. I find that this is an affordable alternative to buying many books and spending copious amounts of money. Also, the books include fun and relatable music for students!

*** Lesson Details ***
All lessons start of with a nice hello and check-up!

Music lessons:

Each lesson starts with technical warm-ups. Once the student is fully warmed-up, we then move on to repertoire. Within the repertoire, technique is added with my guidance. Certain repertoire may require certain technical attention which will always be addressed. I give demonstrations whenever needed. It is my job to make sure the student can view a live demonstration and receive guidance to apply the same aspects to their music making. Students shall learn through experiential, feeling and muscle memory.

Language lessons:

Similarly to music lessons, each lesson starts with grammar exercises and review. New grammar will then be learned (if applicable) and immediately practiced. I use games, worksheets, videos, articles, books, live conversation and more. The target language is encouraged to be used whenever possible in the lesson and outside of the lesson.

About Me

Hi, I'm Bri! I'm a graduate of North Central College with a BA in Music (Emphasis in Composition and Percussion) and a minor in History. I absolutely love music, every single aspect of it. I want and love to make music a part of everybody's lives who want and need it. I want to help you with your musical needs. I have been playing percussion for 15 years, singing for 20, and playing piano for 17 years. I am currently in a recording and performing band, Oblio and Arrow, and am also working on orchestrating a musical with a company.

History has always fascinated me. They way our world has developed and changed, and continues to evolve is amazing. Everything can be tied back to the past, and I feel it's important to take a look back, put yourself in that time, and really study how things were to help understand why things are the way they are now.

Crocheting and knitting are a couple of good habits/hobbies I picked up about 6 years ago. I sell scarves online and I'm always working on some sort of project. I will have you knitting and pearling with the best of them!

Music, history, crochet, and knitting....I'm your girl!
