About Me

My name is Amy and I teach Voice, Piano, and Music Theory! I am originally from Racine/Milwaukee, WI and have been a musician since I was young. I believe music is a universal language that connects us all on a deeper level. There is something so pure, beautiful, and genuine in music. It has the capability to move us to tears, feel empowered, or even break out in laughter. Sharing and connecting with others is what music is all about. I have loved music my entire life and enjoy bringing my passion and expertise to my students!

Taking lessons is a fun and exciting experience! However, learning to play an instrument (or sing) is not easy. It takes practice, focus, dedication, and hard work. We set up a plan at the beginning of lessons to ensure success!

Lessons are flexible, yet focused. It is important to set a routine and consistently stick to it if you want to see results. While I understand that we all have busy weeks, I do believe that consistent practice is essential to success.

Lessons are geared towards you as the student. We set up our lessons based on your musical goals. Voice Lessons: We begin here by focusing on building healthy singing habits, skill building, technique, range expansion, performing skills, diction, and expression. This is usually done from studying musical theater music. With musical theater, we get all the formal "classical rules" with a modern twist. From there we focus on the specialty each student is interested in - whether you want to audition for American Idol, prepare to major in voice in college, or be a Broadway star, we will focus on meeting your goals!

*Within 6 months you will see range expansion, improved accuracy & control, increase in breath control & capacity, as well as improved performance and expression skills!

**Musical theater book/cd purchase is required (discussed at first lesson). Students also need a notebook and pencil!

Piano Lessons: Studying classical piano will give you the tools and foundation that you need to pursue any other genre of music! Students will learn how to read and write music, hand position/posture, phrasing, texture, hand coordination & strength, discipline, music terms, dynamics, speed & accuracy, ear training, and much more through interactive lessons and games! Students will also learn a variety of music genres (including classical, jazz, musical theater, music in movies, rock and roll, and folk songs!).

*The level of success you see with piano is directly related to how much you practice. If you practice on a consistent basis, you will be reading music in both clefs (treble & bass) and playing both hands together within 6 months. **Alfred Piano Lesson book, Theory book, and Technic book are used. (purchase required). Students will also need a notebook and pencil. NOTES:

*Lessons are varied. You will learn all needed skills, but we will use various methods including worksheets, games, rhythm instruments, etc.

*** Studio Equipment ***
A piano keyboard is provided. Students are expected to bring their notebook, pencil, and method book(s) that we have been working out of.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all supplemental things needed for lessons (worksheets, rhythm instruments, etc). I expect students to have the book(s) we are working out of, a metronome (or app), and the instrument needed (piano/keyboard).

*** Specialties ***
I usually use Alfred piano method books for piano. For other instruments/subjects I focus on gearing lessons toward the student.

Diane S. Byron, MN

Subjects Taught

Choir, Clarinet, Crocheting, Flute, Harp, Knitting, Music Theory, Oboe, Reading, Saxophone, Sewing, Singing, Vocal Training

About Me

My journey in music began when I was around 5 years old and first heard the children's choir sing in church. My mother used to tell me that I would beg her to let me sing in the choir but she would always have to tell me I wasn't old enough. As soon as I was old enough, she enrolled me in church choir and I've been in it ever since.

I have performed with the Rochester symphony orchestra and chorale, Rochester community band, Rochester civic music, church choirs and orchestras, Lake of the Isles community band, and performed Handel's Messiah at Carnegie hall in New York City. I've done some acting and singing in musicals as well.

As I got older, I discovered playing the clarinet was fun but never gave up singing. I just did them both. After becoming proficient on clarinet, I explored flute, oboe, saxophone and lastly, the celtic harp.

My philosophy on teaching is "you are never too old to experience the joy of making music on whatever instrument you choose and I will strive to help you discover your hidden musical talents".

During my 20+ years of teaching, I've had many students perform with local youth orchestras, receive superior ratings in high school music competitions, win concerto competitions, be excepted to perform with the Rochester Symphony Orchestra in their playing with the pros program and go on to college to major or minor in music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Music should be fun and not a chore so I like to really get to know my students and structure their lessons in a way so the student has fun but also feels like they have learned something new or plays or sings something better than they did when they arrived.

I expect a student to schedule time in his/her week to practice since my most successful students excel in their school bands and go on to perform with local youth orchestras and other ensembles. I will remind students that they will get back what they put into it.

Listed below is my expertise level on the instruments I feel comfortable teaching.

Flute: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Clarinet: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Oboe: beginner to intermediate (all ages)
Saxophone: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Singing: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Celtic harp: beginner to intermediate (all ages)
Music theory: beginner to advanced (all ages)
Reading: beginner to advanced (all ages)

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have music, piano, CD player, musical instruments and a music stand available at the studio.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my instruments and some music but not all. If there is a piece of music at my studio which the student is interested in looking at, I will make arrangements to bring it with me to your next lesson.

Students at home should have an instrument, a good music stand and a quiet area set aside for the lesson. Pets should be kept in an area other than where the lesson will be taught.

*** Specialties ***
Broadway, showtunes, classical, popular, jazz, religious styles

Brianna S. Los Angeles, CA

Subjects Taught

American History, Arrangement and Composition, Christian Gospel, Classical Piano, Classical Voice, Composition, Crocheting, Drum, Ear Training, Gospel Singing, History, Knitting, Marimba, Music Performance, Music Theory, Percussion, Piano, Singing, World History

About Me

Hi, I'm Bri! I'm a graduate of North Central College with a BA in Music (Emphasis in Composition and Percussion) and a minor in History. I absolutely love music, every single aspect of it. I want and love to make music a part of everybody's lives who want and need it. I want to help you with your musical needs. I have been playing percussion for 15 years, singing for 20, and playing piano for 17 years. I am currently in a recording and performing band, Oblio and Arrow, and am also working on orchestrating a musical with a company.

History has always fascinated me. They way our world has developed and changed, and continues to evolve is amazing. Everything can be tied back to the past, and I feel it's important to take a look back, put yourself in that time, and really study how things were to help understand why things are the way they are now.

Crocheting and knitting are a couple of good habits/hobbies I picked up about 6 years ago. I sell scarves online and I'm always working on some sort of project. I will have you knitting and pearling with the best of them!

Music, history, crochet, and knitting....I'm your girl!
