I started playing guitar at age 11, taking lessons at the local music studio in Hackensack, NJ. I became heavily influenced by The Beatles after hearing their music and as a teenager played in local rock groups, having some success being in the bands Jona's Ark and The Yorkshire Pudding, opening for artists Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, John Mayall and backing up Gary U.S. Bonds. I started playing piano at 19 when I took a group piano class in college. I attended Berklee College of Music and studied guitar with Bill Leavitt and Pat Metheny. That's where I started learning about all the great jazz artists from Duke Ellington to Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery to name a few. Brian has been performing for over 10 years. He is experienced in genres from hip-hop to classic rock, and delivers a style all his own. He is an honors graduate of Berklee College of Music with a dual degree in Music Production and Engineering and Music Business Management. Prior to Berklee, Brian was classically trained as a vocalist by Georgia Marandino. He fine-tuned his skills at Berklee with Joey Blake (performs with Bobby McFerrin). Brian learned guitar and piano from his father a semi-pro guitarist and an educator of educators. As a producer and sound engineer, Brian has worked with musicians spanning different genres and cultures including Grammy Award winning sound engineer Hector Ivan Rosa (Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, El Gran Combo). He currently offers voice, piano, guitar, and music theory lessons to students of all abilities.

I have been both a performer and dedicated teacher in the NYC and NJ area for over 14 years. I began playing music at the age of 8 years old, studying classical piano until I was 13. From there, I picked up guitar and started to immerse myself with rock, folk, classical, and jazz music. I eventually attended William Patterson University where I earned a BA in Jazz Performance, and then decided to move to NYC and pursue my career as a performer and educator. Upon moving to the city, I attended the American Institute of Guitar where I studied classical guitar for 5 years with world renowned guitarist Yasha Koffman.

Currently, I am teaching and performing in the greater NJ and NYC areas, and has performed with notable figures such as Steve LaSpina, James Williams, Tyshawn Sorey, and Yasha Koffman.

I am a music educator, classically trained with an advanced performance degree. As a soloist and collaborative musician, I have performed professionally in ensembles, bands and orchestras both here and abroad. With a high degree of knowledge and proficiency, I teach proper technique and practice strategies, music notation, theory, rhythm and phrasing, while adapting teaching approaches to match the needs of each student. I share a love of music with my students and it gives me great pride to hear each student develop their own musical voice.

Student who takes lessons with me has a chance to expand his knowledge by learn necessary technique and elements of music which I have studied in college. I am glad and willing to share my knowledge of music as well as research different genres and styles of music.

A lifelong musician and songwriter, Ian S has extensive experience teaching guitar and piano to students age 3 and up both as a private music instructor and as a teacher at the Institute of Music for Children in New Jersey. With 25 years experience in guitar and piano, Ian has studied and performed with several award-winning music artists, and has written and recorded over one hundred songs. He plays and teaches a variety of styles on both the guitar and the piano, from classical to jazz to rock. Ian is patient, friendly, and loves sharing the gift of music.

Ian was the guitarist in the Princeton University Jazz Ensemble for 3 seasons, was selected from a nationwide pool of musicians to perform at a special music event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and was the recipient of the New Jersey Governor's Award in Arts Education for the category of Instrumental Music.

I grew up in a musical home, my father was a rock and roll and soul session drummer throughout the '60's and '70's in New York. I picked up the guitar at 11 years old and started taking lessons. After studying classical and jazz throughout high school I attended William Paterson University from 1994 - 1997, majoring in Music Education and studying with jazz guitar guru Vic Juris and classical guitarist Rich Jacobowski.

In 1997, I moved to Brooklyn and cut my teeth in the NYC R&B and rock club scene playing in the band Sole Pocket, and with various jazz combos at many other clubs including the Blue Note and the Knitting Factory. In 2003 I returned to college at CCNY (city college of New York), majoring in Jazz Performance and studying with Ornette Coleman alum, Kenny Wessel. I'm Mike, and I'm thrilled to be part of the TakeLessons team. I first picked up the guitar at the age of 5, and have never looked back! I began formal Jazz training in high school and continued studying guitar and composition at Oberlin College and Wesleyan University. After graduating, I played Organ Trio and small combo jazz in LA, studied Brazilian and African percussion, and went to Japan to study Shamisen and Taiko drumming. I've been playing in various groups since arriving in NYC in 2005, and have recently been working on engineering and composing for film.

My strength lies in my versatility - I love music of all kinds. Daniel R. L. began his Musical career at the age of 10 teaching himself how to play the guitar.

Later began his formal musical training with guitarist Carlos Castilla. He Studied at the Classical Guitar Program at Andes University in Bogota, Colombia with under Carlos Rocca Lynn & Jaime Arias Obregon. Master classes with Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Fernandez, Ricardo Cobo, Jorge Caballero, Manuel Barrueco, Ahmet Kannecci and Ricardo Iznaola also taken private instruction with Francisco Navarro, Fernando Kabusacki, Tony Geballe, Curt Golden, Scott Tennant, Al Koonze, among others.

Music has played a big role in my life ever since I was 4 and heard The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night." From that point on, I committed myself towards a life in music, soon after beginning lessons on classical guitar. Through high school I studied classical and jazz guitar at Philadelphia's esteemed Settlement Music School, and I subsequently attended New York University as a jazz studies major in both guitar and composition for a bachelors and masters degree.

As a teacher, I love to pair my academic knowledge of music with my decades of experience listening to and playing popular music ranging from rock and funk to bluegrass and hip hop. I've performed in settings ranging from jazz clubs in Italy, to theater in New York, and rock clubs in Philadelphia. In my lessons I like to bring that diverse experience to create a curriculum that compliments the interests of the student.

Having played guitar since the age of 14 I have been trained in classical guitar and eventually obtained a music degree from Claremont McKenna College in California.
Specializing in Classical music as well as Brazilian genres such as choro, bossa-nova and samba I also have interest for blues and classic rock. I take students who both want to learn classical guitar or are interested in learning to play pop / rock songs.
