About Me

I started taking lessons from a private tutor by age 8 and progressed to playing for church by age 13 and added weddings and other occasions by the age of 16. After marriage I began attending a church in Maryland with my new husband and played for them for all services for 10 years, then moved on to another church nearby for 7 years for all services, teaching piano lessons to 26 students and playing for all occasions as I took on a southern gospel group playing and singing for local churches in the try state area. In my working career I played for Cardinal Gibbons school for their masses, graduations and other ceremonies. I now play in Florida for a local church as a paid musician for 6 years and now fill in as a substitute for a larger church while teaching piano lessons. Again I am involved with a southern gospel group traveling locally giving concerts upon request. It is the most enjoyable profession to play for young as well as the elderly seeing smiles on their faces along with them joining you in song and satisfaction. My hope is that I can pass along the gifts that I've been blessed with and teach as many students so they can too pass on their talents making people happy!

I am a laid back piano teacher and will teach you at your own pace. There is so many things to enjoy from lessons with recitals to play in front of your family to add to your self esteem and take you into new levels of joy from the piano. The John Thompson books are my favorite and the Bach exercises are beautifully written and such a help to help you play fluently. After 3 or 6 months you will know your scales, chords and pretty songs to play for your own enjoyment and you will be pleased with your progress to play for others to listen also. If you choose to keep all learning private and prefer not to play in front of others this too will be honored.

About Me

I have been playing music since I was 9 years old. I studied piano with Robin Kaplan, Mark Evans, Lee Shaw, and Dr. Gary Bush. In 2004 I completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Composition and Production from the Purchase Conservatory at Purchase College in West Chester, NY. Recently I completed a very successful tour as pianist for the United States Marine Corps Band, based in Cherry Point, NC. My performance experience includes jazz, R&B, reggae, classical, rock, funk, country, and DCI style marching band. I am very inspired by the vast world of music and I encourage my students to explore many genres of music in their studies.

*** Lesson Details ***
I approach music instruction with a very open mind. I am a pretty laid back teacher, despite my Marine Corps training. I find that students who enjoy what they are learning are much more likely to practice and succeed. From the first lesson I reinforce strong technique, practice habits and ear training within the context of students' interests. I also work to expand students' musical world with many take home listenings. In the first 3-6 months students can expect to learn to read and write basic notes and rhythms, the origins of the instrument and the music written for it, and most importantly, students will learn to play some songs and build their repertoir. That, of course, is just the beginning of what is, hopefully, a life long fascination with music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my studio I have comfortable seating for parents, and upright piano, drumset, electric drumset, digital pianos, and computer with recording and playback capabilities.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide portable keyboards, laptop computer, and recording equipment. I expect piano students to have their own piano or keyboard and my drum students to have, at least a snare drum and/or practice pad.

About Me

I had my first piano lesson when I was five years old. I performed my first piano solos for audiences at school events. I joined the keyboard team at church when I was thirteen years old. I quickly learned to improvise and accompany. It was exciting to discover that I could study piano in college. I earned my way by accompanying voice and instrument choirs, rehearsals, lessons, and recitals. I enjoy helping other people excel, so I chose a teaching degree over a performance degree.

In 1991, I graduated with my bachelor of music degree in piano pedagogy. I immediately began teaching private and group piano lessons, building my studio over thirteen years to reach more than 800 students ages five to seventy-five. I accompanied community choirs, local vocal artists, and students performing on other instruments. I performed as a substitute for church choir directors and accompanists. I was employed as a music director and organist for seven years.

In 2004, my family and I moved to St. Cloud, Florida. I achieved my Music K-12 professional teacher certification with the State of Florida. I teach elementary music in Florida charter and public schools (Osceola, Broward, and Pasco counties). I continue to perform as a professional accompanist and serve on the piano faculty at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach beginning students to read music. I teach students to play piano successfully. Reading music is a step-by-step process. I like to begin at the beginning. Using an age-appropriate All-in-One course from Alfred Publishing, we begin with the basic layout of the piano and learn to navigate the 88 keys. If you absorb and apply the information quickly, we move along quickly. If you need a little more time to sort it out, we take all the time you need.

My piano lessons are structured around the student’s interests and abilities. Whether you are looking for a fun hobby or a place to launch your musical career, our time together will guide you to your goals. I am aware of physical and cognitive developmental stages and am able to present material in a suitable format for any student, adult or child.

*Special note to parents of children with unique needs: Piano lessons are a fantastic way to provide your child with focused one-on-one time while learning new skills. Playing the piano incorporates hand-eye-brain coordination, reinforces reading skills, provides opportunities for personal achievement, and teaches self-discipline through accountability. With my experience and training in Exceptional Student Education, I am able to personalize piano lessons for students with physical and cognitive challenges.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ f/w keyboard and seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
My students need to have at least a 50+key keyboard/piano in their home.

*** Specialties ***
