I am happy to offer piano lessons for beginning to advanced students, and guitar and violin lessons for beginning to upper intermediate students. I teach music in all genres, including pop/rock, classical, ragtime, Broadway, country, jazz, and more - whatever you like best.
I encourage students to learn music they are interested in, and to have fun with lessons, while also making sure that they have strong sight-reading and ear training skills, and a solid classical background.
I am a former K-12 Orchestra, Band, Piano, and Choir Teacher. I taught at the Winans Academy of Performing Arts (Detroit) and Madison Academy (Flint). I hold the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan - Flint with piano as primary instrument. I played piano ...
I began playing piano at 18 years old as a music major at Macomb Community College. I think I was the only one who was thrilled to be playing piano. I quickly advanced through the 3 group classes and then private lessons. I love teaching piano to students of all levels and all ages.
I teach all levels of piano. I currently use the Alfred books for the first 3 levels of books and then we move to the Snell piano repertoire books for the following levels. I also have many fun solo books for students.
I love teaching, simply love teaching! I teach students of all ages. I teach piano, voice, clarinet, and saxophone. I have taught for over 25 years. My students have lots of opportunities for performance, if they choose to. We perform at Nursing Homes, Retirements, Festival of Trees, and Seasonal Recitals. There are at least 2 recitals a year, 1 at Christmas and 1 in the Spring, if enough participation, we often have one in summer with a party afterward. We also participate in the Michigan Music Association competition. I have also had students perform in Disney World in Florida!!! I have been in many musicals such as Annie, Gypsy, Rock Around the Clock. I have put on solo recitals. I am a member of my church choir. My students and I have fun while we are learning music! It ...
With my Bachelor's/Master's Degree and 13 years of experience in education, it will be an honor for me to add more to students.

My Method: Listen, Sing, Clap, Play, Read and Write. With these tools you can look deeper into the elements that make up music.
Children don't learn to read before they can talk. So why should anyone have to try to read before they can play?
That is how music is taught, traditionally and why a huge percentage of students just quit or have a miserable time with piano lessons. Music should be fun. Period.
We will always have a lot of fun, ...
Helping students to play by ear and to be able to read basic chord charts and beginning and intermediate piano methods along with theory and technique exercises. Special areas include Pop, Rock Jazz and Worship music.
I have been teaching guitar and piano for many years in the Metro Detroit area. I have played professionally in many local nightclub and wedding bands as well as having toured with Bob Seger as his lead guitarist/writer/vocalist. I also have done some recording sessions with Motown. I take great pleasure in mentoring, training and equipping students with the necessary skills to achieve at the personal and/or professional level according to the students interest and desire. I tailor my teaching methods according to the students ability and musical preference and can teach anything from classic rock to pop, classical, oldies, jazz, etc. Many of my students have gone on to play at the professional level and one, in particular, has become a music professor at Berklee School of Music. In ...
Before my college experience, I began tutoring piano lessons at age 15, while attending high school. I have now been playing and teaching piano for six years total. I enjoy using fun tactics to get people engaged in learning the material, as well as ensuring that the student has full knowledge of what he/she is doing.
For 3 years, excellence has been the core value in my teaching. I give the courage and confidence to all my students that they can conquer and accomplish their goals in music if they remain focused, determined, and eager to learn. All of my music lessons are done in a fun, engaging environment that is very different from sitting in a classroom listening to lectures for hours on end. I make the student feel as if they are already in the drivers seat as the musician they desire to be. With my dynamic music training, students will walk away knowing that they are ready musicians, preparing to wow the crowd with excellence. Why would you want to go elsewhere when you have the best musical success system right in front of you?

My goal is to have my students prepared for what ever level they wish to go with their music. Some want to play for enjoyment only and others wish to take piano/music in college.
I have been teaching for over 30 years. I love to teach students of all ages. My education is classical in nature and this is how I approach my lessons, but I also mix in current music that is of interest to each particular student. I have also been a church musician for over 40 years. I studied with the Dr. Perkins, Head of the Music Department at Eastern Montana College, now Montana State University, Billings. I have also studied with Dr. Peggy Daugherty, a concert level pianist.
