I've been writing songs my entire life. As a published songwriter, I have helped many of my piano students over the years become beautiful writers themselves and enjoy the process immensely.
I studied piano in Germany with Lola Poirier (a student of the famous Alfred Cortot) for 11 years, then with Phillip Evans in New York (professor at the Manhattan School of Music) and finally with world-renowned concert pianist Eugene Liszt at Carnegie-Mellon University, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a Minor in Child Pedagogy. For the past twenty eight years I have been teaching students of all levels and ages, incorporating some of my former teachers' methods with my own teaching style. I am passionate about awakening a hunger in each of my students for bringing and keeping music in their lives forever. I don't look at my students as children who play an instrument, but as young artists on the road to self-discovery and musical fulfillment! ...
Songwriting: We could start anywhere from the basics of building a song, learning the rules and breaking them, to producing a song and performing it live. Nowadays, writing a song on an instrument, having some basic chords, melody and lyrics isn't necessarily where it ends anymore. Because technology is evolving fast, it's becoming more and more of a one man process where the same person will write, produce and record a song. I have started writing by using an instrument (which I still do now) to using software (Ableton Live) and writing within the software and treating the production of the song as part of the writing process. I have also gone through figuring out how to perform what's already recorded and written live so that it sounds cohesive. All those things I can help with, teach and explain derived from my personal experience.
Originally from Moscow, Russia I started my training in Classical music. However, growing up and listening to Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Pink Floyd, Queen etc. I wanted to learn more about that kind of music. My curiosity and passion led me all the way to another continent where I was admitted to the University of Miami's Jazz Vocal Department at the age of 16. While I was at school I realized that I not only wanted to perform, but also write music. After graduation I moved to NYC to pursue being a singer/songwriter. Since then I've recorded 3 albums and have been actively recording, producing, and performing ever since. I am currently working on a new project, which has gathered the attention of NPR, WSJ and The American Songwriter. Before starting lessons I evaluate ...

I welcome students of all ages. I believe everybody has a true voice and can sing with hard work and dedication!
Composition of tunes for any instrumentation, including vocals and lyrics.
I have been teaching trumpet, music theory, jazz harmony, jazz piano, and music composition to students of all ages since late 2008. I work very well with young, beginning students as well, and can teach all levels. Working at UCLA for my degree in music performance has taught me what it takes to be a good teacher, and I am patient, understanding, and believe there's no greater feeling than watching my students flourish. I like to take the time to get to know my students, and plan lessons around their individual needs, rather than plug them into a system set in stone. I have a routine I do, that I will start students with, but am very open to modification based on student needs/desires. I perform jazz professionally in Los Angeles, and have spent time touring in playing in the San
I took a few different songwriting and lyric writing courses during my time at Berklee College of Music. However, other than basic song forms and rhyming schemes, most of it I've learned from my own writing. I believe some aspects of songwriting can be taught, but the most important aspects are already in your brain and simply need to be released. Through a few co-writing and collaboration projects we can unleash the true voice within you that sings beauty out loud.
Born and raised in Monterrey, México. Spanish is my native tongue but I went to an American school my whole life and have been living in the US for more than four years now, so I'm as confident with the English language as I am with Spanish. I majored in Contemporary Writing & Production at Berklee College of Music and graduated May 2014. I also got a minor in Video Game Music, which is somehow even cooler than it sounds. My main instrument is Piano; I've been playing for fourteen years now. I've also played guitar for the past four years but don't feel as comfortable with it yet. I've taught a few intensive courses, summer camps and private lessons but nothing too formal. I've done tutoring as well for basic math, algebra and both English and Spanish.
