A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25
lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

I am a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with a dual-degree in Music Theory & Composition and Philosophy from Butler University in Indianapolis. I will design lessons around your interests, goals, and needs. These can include full pieces, exercises, scales and arpeggios, worksheets, compositions, or improvisations (depending on your area of study.) If students are interested, I would even like to hold studio wide recitals once or twice a year to give your family and friends a chance to see your progress.

*** Specialties ***
I studied Suzuki violin, but later switched to a traditional style. I have over 10 years of experience in classical music (violin, guitar, piano) and have since branched out to explore other genres: jazz, bluegrass, folk, rock, pop, etc.

I place a strong emphasis on Music Theory, Scales, and Rhythmic accuracy, since these are the building blocks of all music and can be applied across genres.

Most importantly, I make sure that my students have FUN in their lessons. I want to make sure my students look forward to their lessons each week--hopefully you will even be excited to practice.

Candace W. Chicago, IL

Candace has taught students ages 4 to 54 and can adapt to specific students learning styles and interests.

*** Lesson Details ***
As with anything, you get out of lessons what you put in. While I wouldn't consider myself to be strict, I do expect students to put in the work at home and come to lessons prepared and ready to focus. Students will learn warm-ups to build proper technique while keeping you healthy, theory and mechanical studies to build strength and a deeper understanding of music. In addition, I'll demonstrate how each technical skill is used in songs to make clear why tedious studies are important and not just cruel. Students will improve intonation, time, rhythm, style, and musicality while broadening their repertoire and musical knowledge.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in living room with full keyboard and recording equipment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide P.A. (speakers, mircrophone, recording equipment) if necessary. Student should have their own instrument and music stand, piano or keyboard (for voice students).

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Musical Theater, Classical, Pop.

Violin

About Me

Hi my name is Glorimar I'm from Puerto Rico but now I'm living in Chicago. My Dad is a musician and like every musician who have kids he had the idea of teaching me piano since I was 6 years old. The truth is that I fell in love with the violin when I was 12 years old in a music camp and I started to take violin lessons and since the very first day I loved so much the violin class that I told my Mom that I wanted to be a great violin teacher just like mine. Once I graduated from High School I went straight to the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico, where I received a Bachelor Degree of Music with a concentration in Instrumental Music Education. I've been a private violin teacher since 2007, every time I see the face of a kid light up when he or she is playing the violin for first time is my favorite part of been a teacher. My goals are to do my Masters Degree in Music Education with a concentration in String Pedagogy at the Northwestern University, that's why I moved from Puerto Rico.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a violin teacher/student (yes student, because you never stop learning!) I know how hard and frustrating can be sometimes so don't worry, you will always going to have fun, and enjoy the class. Every student is different so I'm going to teach according to what they need, but you need to practice everyday. I will work first with playing the violin tune, with a correct posture and then music notation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The instrument, the books and a notebook to take notes.

*** Specialties ***
I learned with the Suzuki Violin Method and then when I started in college I learned the traditional method and I used both to teach.

Gabriella P. Wheaton, IL

A recent graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University, Gabriella has earned her degree in Violin Performance and will be continuing a Masters in String Pedagogy. A few notable performances she has participated in is two solo recitals, concerts with the Danville, Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan Civic Orchestra, and many performances with her quartet, including performances at the Consular Corps. Ball in Chicago. She has developed an advanced repertoire for her instrument and greatly enjoys imparting what she has learned with others.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each student is expected to attend each lesson scheduled with all materials prepared over the week. Students are expected to practice no less than 5 days each week. The student must be engaged and active in each lesson, music is so exciting! It is highly encouraged to participate in local orchestras and chamber music programs as well as tend concerts available in the area. These events are tremendous learning opportunities!
Although I am not a "strict" teacher, I do adjust my expectations to each student and do expect each student to make progress from lesson to lesson. Within the first few months together, I can assure better posture, a more comfortable playing experience and strong technical foundations. I will start with Suzuki method with supplementary materials from other technical books and as the student progresses we will look at other pieces outside the Suzuki curriculum.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the dining room area. Seating is available. 4 dogs kept outside during lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide music copies and a stand if need be along with articles I would have them read and objects to help technique (i.e. a rhythm egg). I would expect the student to have their own instrument and accessories.

*** Specialties ***
I am most familiar with the Suzuki Method and the Harvey Whistler technique books but I like to incorporate a variety of styles such as Eastern European and Spanish traditional dances.
