I like to use the Hal Leonard method book for ukulele. You will learn how to read music, play chords, fingerpick, and most importantly learn the songs you love to listen to! Ukulele is one of the most fun and light-hearted instruments and is great for playing all the old classics.
I have an MFA in Music Composition and Piano Performance from California Institute of the Arts and a BA in Music Composition from UC Santa Barbara.
I have been playing the piano since the age of 7 and started composing as a teenager. I began teaching music in high school and quickly learned that providing musical knowledge is just as important as acquiring the skills it takes to be a musician. Studying with me will help you become a well-rounded musician with the ability to play the type of music you want to play.
Constantly composing, film scoring, and performing, I'm a very active musician that works with classical musicians, rock musicians, and everything in between. I teach a variety of instruments and will cater lessons to your styles and interests. I'm also a ...
I teach music fundamentals via the Ukulele which include rhythm and pitch, singing and technical proficiency with the instrument.
A lover of cats, kids, and music, I started taking Suzuki violin lessons at age six, finishing all ten books before the end of high school. I added guitar, guitar variants such as ukulele, cuatro, and tiple, and percussion during my Masters degree in Ethnomusicology at U.T. Austin and began teaching world music, piano, and theory at L.A. Trade Tech College in 2002. I performed for several years with the Cal Arts Balinese gamelan, Burat Wangi and moved to New York to perform with the local chamber pop ensemble Kotorino in 2008. It was there that I started teaching individual lessons on violin and guitar before moving back to my natal LA to take the Suzuki book 1 training with Liz Arbus. I have many years of experience performing in world and pop music ensembles and have a deep love for ...
I have had the opportunity to really stretch the limits of the ukulele because of the classes I teach with the instrument. In addition to the typical strum-along style of Uke playing, I can teach the Ukulele in a great deal of styles and using a great number of techniques.
I have been happily playing music for over half of my life and it has always been the light in my day. Now it is my hope to shed that same light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.
I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on ...
Chords and finger-picking will be studied to play favorite tunes.
Bachelor's in musical theater performance from Columbia College Chicago. Audition prep (acting/singing) and vocal technique for clients since 2007.
My critique during your lesson is always honest, so you know when I give you a compliment it is well deserved. I especially love working with non-singers and helping them find their voice. I always start with an assessment to see where your work is currently at and where we can go from there. I keep notes during your lesson, send you an email afterwards with your homework for the week, then I use those notes to think of personalized ways to improve your technique before your next lesson.
If honesty and results are what you're looking for in a teacher, I promise to be that teacher for you.

Valentina picked up the ukulele a couple of years ago and has just started teaching Beginner to Intermediates! This is a great instrument to learn as a songwriter who doesn't have time to commit to the guitar.
Hello all! Thanks for finding me here. As my past experience is very vast in the music industry, I thought to post my bio for you to get a feel:
"Valentina finds herself in Los Angeles after a four-year music stint overseas in Italy, London and Scotland. Along the way she has worked very closely with Universal Records UK, recording over twenty songs under their development, as well as getting a chance to work with some of her biggest influences- including Tony Kanal (No Doubt), and hit writing team The Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry). During that time, she worked with Echo and the Bunnymen, and recorded vocals on their latest release, "The Fountain". After moving back to America, Valentina started producing and writing music for various companies, including scoring ...
Let's head over to the big island with this 4 string little lady! We can learn theory, how to read notes, how to play ukulele standards or take current songs and arrange them for uke!
I've been playing music for over 20 years. I've been teaching for over 10 years. My main instrument is guitar but I also play and teach piano, drums, uke and bass. I play with two acts in the area: Nataly Lola (acoustic covers) and We Were Superheroes (original rock). I am constantly listening to new alternative music (98.7 and AltNation) as well as learning the classics for the cover band. I never have a bias for a song and am always surprised when the pop song on the radio is actually quite clever when broken down to its roots. As a teacher I cater to the student. I've taught Old Country, Jazz Theory, New Metal, Russian Ska (yup!) and anything else that you want to learn.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
