About Me

I fully enjoy teaching music and theater to others and spreading the art of performance, reaching out to all generations. I believe in customizing every lesson to be unique for my students in a way that will serve their individual needs. I teach with patience and encouragement and believe that students prosper and improve much more from a positive experience. My lessons are intended to be fun and influential in a positive light that can lead to a rewarding career, hobby, or just for personal enjoyment!

Every since I was a little girl, I have been devoted to the arts. When I began college, I knew that music was my path. As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women the Musical, Seussical the Musical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer at churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to perform and study music because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it.

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life then they WILL achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having FUN doing it!

*** Lesson Details ***
I begin each voice and acting lesson with a warm-up to prepare the student for their lesson. Next, we do a series of exercises specially designed to help each individual develop their skill in a way that best fits them. We then work on a piece of their choice for the remainder of the lesson, perfecting their technique and helping them become performance ready. I teach with patience and fun because I feel that this is the key to achieving goals and inspiring a good habit of practice.

If you do not already have a song, sheet music, or monologue (acting students) to bring in I can help you choose one during your first lesson. I also require that my students keep a practice journal to record their daily practice sessions. If possible, please bring a recording device of some sort so you can record your lessons. It is a HUGE help to be able to listen back on your lessons and to use them in your daily practice! No experience is necessary, that is what I'm here for!

*** Studio Equipment ***

*** Travel Equipment ***
I could bring my keyboard if necessary.

About Me

I am passionate about teaching, and I have a wide variety of experiences as an educator, all of which have been incredibly rewarding for me. I've been a private language tutor for business professionals, university students, and secondary school students in Spain, Germany, Argentina, and the US. I've also taught English online using Skype, Google voice, and various other platforms with students in South Korea, Italy, and Austria. In addition to English teaching, I've also taught Computer Science and Philosophy to both native English speakers and EFL students in grades 4-12 as well as university students. One-to-one and small group English language tutoring has been my favorite teaching experience thus far, and I hope to connect with a diverse group of students through TakeLessons!

One of my greatest strengths as a teacher is my commitment to making learning English fun by personalizing my teaching for each and every one of my students. I enjoy building customized lesson plans to suit the needs and learning styles of students with different goals, and I like to find ways to apply language learning to individual student interests. I am happy to offer a wide range of lesson types, including but not limited to: free speaking practice through informal conversation, grammar classes suited to individual levels and goals, business English or English for specific purposes including help writing and/or editing emails, resumes, etc., and skills-based lessons for English reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension.

Feel free to send me a message if the type of lesson you are looking for is not listed here, ot if you'd like to explore a lesson option that isn't listed in the packages below. I'm incredibly flexible both with my schedule and with my lesson styles, so I€™ll be happy to work with you to make a custom plan that is the perfect fit for your learning goals. I look forward to hearing from you!

Hannah

About Me

I have worked with "regular-education" students, with autistic students [while working with Dr. Nyla Lamm (Professor of Education at Columbia University)] , and with mentally disturbed students. These students are ALL entitled to an education (just like you and I were). I love teaching ALL students. No exceptions!
I have a Masters in TESOL from Fordham University, a New York State [TESOL] Certification, and have experience teaching children and adults. I am very enthusiastic about working with people [because I love it!]. As my resume indicates, I have a degree in English, a Masters in TESOL, and a wide ranging knowledge of Spanish and History (my minors). Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language to individuals and groups.
Also, I worked with La Guardia Community College as an ESL Professor. This is in additions to the 10 years of Teaching English to various multicultural groups. Because I know both languages, English and Spanish, well; have strong communication skills; and love interacting with people; I feel especially qualified to be part of your staff. I have tutored English to pupils at a correctional facility (OATKA), to college students, migrant workers, blue-collar workers, and professionals as medical doctors. Additionally, I have written standard, collegiate English for the English Club at SUNY Geneseo.
In addition, I have broadened my communication skills by going through Mediation Training, working with people from different cultures, becoming a Notary Public, gotten certified as a Mediator by the Center for Dispute Settlement in Rochester, NY, and going to numerous conferences dealing with Classroom Management, Learning Strategies, Learning Languages and Children Literature (among others).
I would be very pleased to become part of your staff. I am available for an interview at any time on a two days notice.

Sincerely,

PROF. SOLANGE M.
