Cory M (MA, Music) is passionate about music performance and creation. In 9th grade, Cory traded in his surfboard for a bass guitar and never looked back. Playing bass in a band lead to songwriting, and songwriting turned into a Bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in composition. Fascinated by the complexities of the musical experience, Cory went on to earn his Masters Degree in music with an emphasis in music history and theory.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Cory has performed live and in the studio as a bassist, drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in a variety of acts since 1992. As a songwriter, Cory has written hundreds of songs in several different genres for bands and personal projects. I have been playing music for over fifteen years and have been teaching professionally for over five. I really enjoy teaching and performing and I have won awards in music composition. I have a BA in Education and have taken numerous music courses in my academic career including Harmony, Musicianship, Composition etc. I have also taught in all cities in South Orange County. I am 25, I live in Laguna Hills, and I have always done well with younger students because I can relate to them better than a lot of teachers from my experience. I have studied, performed and taught music for over 25 years. Accordion was my first instrument at age 7 followed by drums and guitar. I studied with great teachers in the past as well as at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have also performed at the Cape Cod Jazz Festival, The Bakersfield Jazz Festival and numerous club dates and private functions throughout New York, New England and Califomia.

For as long as I can remember, I have been singing and dancing, mostly by ear and by mimicking music videos. My first passion was R&B and pop. I began taking lessons at age 15 and my musical world opened to genres such as art song and musical theater, due to a fantastic teacher.

I left home to study music at Cal State, Long Beach. There, I was challenged with more difficult subjects, like opera and Lieder. My appetite continued to grow as I immersed myself in performance, competitions, and traveling the world with college choirs.
