About Me

I am a classically trained pianist, with over 10 years of experience. I perform jazz, classical, pop, folk, and other genres. In addition, I play keyboard in a local rock band. I teach a wide range of piano techniques, including sight reading, finger exercises, classical, and jazz improvisation. I also have a solid repertoire of rhythm training, aural theory, diatonic and chromatic harmony, and music history.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is structured and molded based on your needs as a student pianist. I keep things fun, yet challenging. Conquering challenge yields progress, and therefore it must be emphasized. However, I want to make things fun and interesting for you as well. Above all, music is supposed to be enjoyable. I teach all age groups, and all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. After 3 to 6 months of lessons combined with at-home practice, you will notice your skills in every aspect of music increase. Whether you're a fast or a slow learner, and no matter how much experience you have, you will gain the skills necessary to play the piano confidently, any time, and in any situation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I own a Kurzweil 88-key digital piano for teaching. It's keys feel the same as a real piano, and it's dynamics are also top shelf. Has sustain and damper pedals.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide sheet music. The student should have either a piano or an electronic keyboard to practice at home.

*** Specialties ***
Piano music, baroque, classical, romantic, blues, jazz improvisation, sight reading, basic and advanced music theory, rhythmic training, ear training, diatonic and chromatic harmony.

In addition, I offer tutoring in elementary to high school level math, science.

Music Theory, Organ, Piano

About Me

Graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy (high school) and Westminster Choir College (BM, performance), music has always been my passion! Piano and singing lessons began at a young age -- followed by a few years of trumpet lessons. Organ eventually became my focus as well as harpsichord. I've performed across the United States as well as in England. I feel confident that the many years of lessons I've had myself, paired with my enthusiasm to encourage beginners to take flight will result in a unique and inspiring musical experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
If a student is eager to improve, they must keep focus and be adamant about their practice schedule. It's not always about clocking the most hours, but being 100% dedicated during the time you are actually able to commit to. I expect students to come with their assignments improved upon from the previous lesson. If assignments seem to be too much to handle between lessons, we can devise a more appropriate lesson plan to fit your needs and practice commitment.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Organ in living room; space for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Would expect students to buy and use their own scores/method books.

*** Specialties ***
Trained as a classical musician in both piano and organ.

Subjects Taught

French Horn, Music Performance, Music Theory, Organ, Piano, Trumpet

About Me

I recently received my Master’s in Music Performance from the University of Delaware, where I had a graduate assistantship. While at UD, I volunteered regularly at the El Sistema-inspired after-school music program Play On, Philly. I received my Bachelor’s in Music Performance with a minor in Music Theory from the world-renowned University of North Texas. While at North Texas, I was the horn instructor for Celina I.S.D. where I taught private lessons to the horn students. I was also a Supplemental Instructor for Music Theory II while at UNT. As an SI, I led three weekly sessions that involved group activities for the students in order to enhance their knowledge and understanding of music theory.

I am not sure what first interested me in classical music, but as far back as I can remember, I wanted to learn how to play French horn. I loved the way it looked and sounded and I just had to figure out how to play it myself. I started playing horn when I was 12 and I've been in love ever since. While it can be incredibly frustrating to play sometimes, if you work hard enough and are persistent and dedicated, then you will have a tremendous pay off.

After a few years of just playing horn, I started playing trumpet in jazz band. When I was 16, I began studying piano and continued with my piano studies throughout college, including some studies in organ as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will tailor our lessons to your interests and needs as a student. Enjoying yourself while playing your instrument is very important, so I try to always make sure that my students are having fun during their lessons. I am relaxed while still expecting each of my students to achieve their highest potential. My level of expectation will depend upon each student and the issue involved. After six months with me you can expect to be able to fluently read music, feel a significant sense of improvement on your instrument, and will be able to say you know the joy of music-making first hand!

*** Studio Equipment ***
touch-sensitive keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
Stand, tuner, metronome. I have books, but I would also expect my students to buy books and music of their own.

*** Specialties ***
I love teaching horn from beginning to advanced. I have a thorough knowledge of étude books and solos most commonly, and not so commonly, used for all levels of horn instruction. I have studied piano and organ for several years and am very familiar with the varying techniques between the two. I have played recorder (sopranino, alto, tenor) with my collegium while in grad school as the top voice in a Renaissance recorder ensemble and also as a soloist with a Baroque trio sonata group. I have a strong passion for early music and would be delighted to share my love of the music and the instruction of the instruments to any student.
