Classical guitar lessons begin with learning how to read music, while developing good posture and technique on the instrument using finger-style plucking. Over time, we will work on building a repertoire of classical performance pieces, to be shaped with great musicality. Classical guitar is a terrific way to build good technique on the instrument, drawing from the hundreds of years of knowledge in the subject.

About Adrian

Music has played a big role in my life ever since I was 4 and heard The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night." From that point on, I committed myself towards a life in music, soon after beginning lessons on classical guitar. Through high school I studied classical and jazz guitar at Philadelphia's esteemed Settlement Music School, and I subsequently attended New York University as a jazz studies major in both guitar and composition for a bachelors and masters degree. As a teacher, I love to pair my academic knowledge of music with my decades of experience listening to and playing popular music ranging from rock and funk to bluegrass and hip hop. I've performed in settings ranging from jazz clubs in Italy, to theater in New York, and rock clubs in Philadelphia. In my lessons I like to bring

Fun and Inspiring

Adrian's teaching style has helped me to understand the music pieces in an intuitive way. His ability to breakdown a complex concept into simple ones makes the learning fun and natural. Adrain makes the lessons interesting by discussing the music piece in length and also by sharing the music history behind it. He lets the student decide the pace of learning, but at the same time nudges him to take the next step. I will recommend Adrian to anyone who is interested in learning music.

I would highly recommend Adrian.

Adrian's passion for music really comes through in his lessons, always making lessons both informative and fun. Having no prior experience with the guitar before taking lessons from Adrian, he really catered to my strengths and passion points to find a teaching method that suited me well. It wasn't long before I was able to play a song and all the while, in addition to learning the very basics, Adrian also tuned into music theory and songwriting, which gave our lessons great depth. Additionally, Adrian was always very accommodating with my hectic schedule. I highly recommend Adrian to anyone seeking to begin or advance their guitar skills.

You won't be disappointed

I had Adrian as a teacher in group lessons and was always impressed by his ability to connect with each student on a personal level. Adrian is helpful and understanding in his teaching and extremely talented to boot. It was always a treat to see him demonstrate and he always made the students feel like he was equally happy to be there.
Marco O. Sunnyside, NY

I studied classical for two years as an undergraduate student.

About Marco

I started playing guitar seriously at the age of 12 and have been a guitar teacher for 22 years. My first influences were rock and metal. In my later teens, I became very interested in other music genres such as jazz, fusion and classical. I began my formal music education as a Classical Guitar performance major, ultimately obtaining a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music. The road I have taken with music has been paved with many unexpected twists and turns. Throughout my many years of learning and making new discoveries, I have now arrived at a point where I am able to productively incorporate knowledge from various experiences with music and education into my own creativity and teaching. I never expect to stop learning or ...

Marco is one of the best teacher ever, I knew him way back in 1997 when I first came in to the state. At first, one of my friend was taking the session and he didn't mind me just staying and observed. After a few classes, I decided to go with Marco. As a new immigrant, language barrier is a problem. He 's patiently teach me from a to z. Making sure I understand everything. Although, I knew some of the basic of the guitar. I was surprisingly I could learn how to read music. Be able to improvise with him during lesson. You're not just learning how to play song/guitar. You learn music theory all in a packet. I still remember one day I was playing in the local shop in HK, people was whispering this guy is good. This is a good memory that I have until now.

I was a student of Marco's for about two-almost three years, and his excitement, love, desire, wisdom and passion for music and teaching is something that can't be described in words. Marco is a teacher that likes to have fun with whatever it is he may be teaching, but he is also very serious about it to make sure his students learn what they want in the best way possible to them. He will encourage his students if they need it and congratulate you every time you complete whatever it is you may have learned from him. I mostly learned techniques/songs from artist's such as Randy Rhoads, Angus Young, and much more from Marco. He will not let you down. He won't give up on you. I would gladly learn from him any time /any chance I'd get.

Marco has been teaching my son how to play the guitar since 2008. I feel that we were blessed having Marco as my son's first teacher. He really understood him and I was brought to tears at his very first recital when I was amazed how much he had learned in just a short few months. He is a senior in HS now and he has a love for the guitar and a passion to learn new music on his own.
Marco is an exceptional teacher who is very patient and understands his students and listens to their needs. He is extremely talented and anyone would be very lucky to have him as their music instructor. I recommend him highly. He is the best!
Juan C. New York, NY

I have taught all levels, using the methods of Giuliani, Carcassi and Sor. Also I encourage my students to develop a basic repertoire for performance, a knowledge of theory and fundamentals.

About Juan

New York city based guitarist and composer Juan C. immigrated to Miami, Florida at age 21. His work speaks a unique language that blends elements from his early musical experiences in Colombia, as a member of various folk, rock (metal ) ensembles, and his studies in East Asian music fueled by travels and interaction with musicians and artists in China and Japan. Juan’s music has been performed throughout South America, the United States and Asia. Although Juan cannot return to his native Colombia, his string duet, “Famous Librarians” (commissioned by Olivia de Prato and Victor Lowrie, was premiered at the Medellín Conservatory of Music.) His piece for electric bass and keyboard, “Glue Pain Ghost,” a collaboration with video artist, Jane Hsu, was invited to a world premiere at ...

I have spent one year locking myself up in my room, every day for a few hours at a time, stumbling my way to learning the guitar. On my own, I have made it far enough to be familiar with a repertoire of chords, able to learn songs and even develop the mindset for habit forming. But after one year I felt my own limits and decided to discard my ego and find a teacher.

From his profile here I could tell that Juan was not only a skilled musician, but a keen and pensive instructor. After a single session Juan was able to properly asses my abilities and my shortcomings and tailor-designed an approach that matches my personal and musical nature. He uses my strong affinity for technique and uses that to discourage my hesitancy toward theory. He has a comfortable and approachable presence where mistakes and flaws are encouraged as learning footstools. With humble discipline he pushes me to -want- to be better.

With Juan I am absolutely confident in not merely becoming an apt guitarist, but a genuine musician.

Billy N. Brooklyn, NY

I've been teaching 20 years. Classical Guitar technique is the foundation for most fingerpicking styles. Exploring the repertoire of Bach, the classic guitar composers - Sor, Guliani, Carcassi and learning how to arrange melodies for the guitar even if not written for guitar are some of the goals when I teach this style. My specialty is Brazilian Guitar and I have available vast repertoire of guitar music for the "Classical Guitar" plus I've explored the works of Piazolla and Leo Brouwer to name 2 guitarists. For Beginners we begin with 2 fingers, basic reading, getting a feel for your instrument, all made fun through the use of melodic material from various sources, sometimes pop tunes chosen by the student

I cannot recommend Billy enough. I studied jazz improvisation with Billy for three years, and later returned to study Brazilian guitar and Piedmont-style finger picking with him. I had been playing for more than twenty years when I started studying with him and he not only helped me improve my playing technically and creatively (on electric and nylon stringed guitars) but also expanded my knowledge of theory and helped me develop new approaches to composing and arranging. I am still working with the material he gave me and take lessons from him whenever my schedule allows.

I took Brazilian guitar lessons from Billy for several years. His method focuses on absorbing the many rhythms of Brazil and translating them from percussion instruments to the guitar. Much of his effort is devoted on achieving the elusive Brazilian swing, which non Brazilians need to learn. Billy is excellent in breaking down the rhythms and explaining them. He even has a book out on his method. He covers various Brazilian genres: choro, bossa nova, samba, baiao and more.
Billy also is an accomplished jazz, classical and flamenco guitarist with a thorough understanding of harmony and improvisation. He is very patient and has years of teaching and performance experience. You will be lucky to study with him!

I took guitar lessons from Billy for over 10 years. He is an outstanding teacher who is challenging but at the same time very patient. We managed to go through a very extensive repertoire of pieces ranging from the many Brazilian styles to Latin music and Flamenco. Not only is he a skilled and talented performer but his love and enthusiasm for teaching coupled with his extensive knowledge makes him the perfect choice for an instructor. For many years I took lessons at home with Billy but due to my hectic schedule we switched to Skype lessons. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the quality of the lessons was not affected in any way.

We'll focus on the fundamentals of good right- and left-hand technique through a mix of pieces and etudes. You'll learn to read standard notation, but my focus is on getting you actually playing music. We'll also talk about issues of muscle tension and musicality.

About Brendon

I am a composer, guitarist, and recent transplant to Brooklyn from New Haven, where I just finished an M.M. in Composition at the Yale School of Music. I have taught extensively for the past five years in a variety of settings, including teaching guitar, musicianship, and running rock bands in public elementary and high schools in San Francisco and New Haven, teaching private composition lessons and working as a teaching assistant for electronic music courses at Yale, and teaching in several music schools and my own private guitar studio in San Francisco. In addition to my teaching work, I've maintained a busy schedule as a composer, guitarist in both chamber ensembles and experimental rock bands, and organizer. I perform regularly with such groups as Bang on a Can, Dither Quartet, ...
