I have loved music as long as I can remember. I know its cliché to say so, but it's true! :)

For me, having parents of different ethnicities and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon box of rhythms and sounds captivated and affected me so much that it is the key experience that I draw from in making my own music today.

I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska (a small town in the center of the state) so my only option for entertainment and fun was getting involved in the arts! I started performing at a very young age as both a dancer and a musician. I studied classical ballet, modern dance, hip hop and street dance, and world dance traditions throughout my formative years, which helped me to gain rhythmical fluency. I started my formal music training when I began to play the cello. From then on, I was hooked on the sound and I immersed myself in music as much as I could;...

I have a Master's in vocal performance from the University of Washington, where I sang the role of the Witch in "Hansel and Gretel". I've also sung Cherubino in "The Marriage of Figaro", the Mother in "The Consul", Third Lady in "The Magic Flute", and Hippolyta in "A Midsummer Night's Dream". I also sing with the Seattle Opera chorus, where I get to be around so many amazing singers everyday. I recently underwent a change from mezzo-soprano to soprano, and I'm loving it! My favorite song composers include Mahler and Brahms, and a few of my favorite operas include "The Barber of Seville", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and Carmen.

Julia began playing the trumpet at age 11 in her middle school band. She found her real passion was singing, so she began training with a voice coach, playing piano, and performing in musical theatre productions.

In 2004 Julia entered the School of Music and Theatre Arts at Washington State University. She studied voice and piano and was an avid performer in the WSU Library Atrium Recital Series. She was cast in 6 productions of the school's Opera Workshop Series including "Jane Eyre," "Naughty Marietta" and "Der Freitschutz." She also played her trumpet in the Cougar Marching Band for 2 seasons. Julia taught private voice and piano lessons from her studio during college until she graduated in May, 2010.

Today Julia teaches piano, voice and music theory lessons to students in the Seattle area. During the school year she travels to Public Elementary Schools in Seattle and Issaquah and instructs group piano courses for afterschool programs. She teaches private music...
