My primary performing instrument. I have studied with several masters of the trumpet, and still study with several world wide trumpet performers. The struggle I have gone through to go from Saxophone to Trumpet was tremendous, and included braces, and the whole 9 yards. I currently study with:
(Yes, all of them!)
I began my musical journey in 6th grade, where i picked up the saxophone at Dartmouth Middle School. After 4 years of Saxophone, I began Trumpet in 10th grade. I immediately fell in love with the trumpet and began studying Jazz intensely. I began to listen to Louis Armstrong, and starting taking private trumpet lessons. I studied enough trumpet to earn a Musical Excellence scholarship when I was accepted at San Jose State University, where I am currently. I am currently a certified teacher with TakeLessons.com, and a freelance musician in San Jose.

I teach to pass along all I have learned, which has come through my studies, practice, performing, and teaching.
The common thread among all that I have heard is that every note is important. Every note must contribute to the melody. Every note must be played with good time, good sound and good intonation. And the point of all that precision is to play melodically, with a nice loose feeling.
This all comes from listening. We listen to ourselves, to others, to the great jazz improvisers, to all the world's great music. We listen.
These are the concepts that I teach.
Hear what the student knows. Know what the student hears.
I hear what you know from listening to you play. I know what you hear from our dialogue about all your playing and listening experiences. From this I help you focus on the most musical direction.
With these two facets of teaching, you develop both good technique and clear goals.
Student needs only the instrument, a lesson book, and should have a metronome as well. I supplement the book with exercises tailored to each student's needs. Redwood City is halfway between San Francisco and San Jose. I am happy to drive the 30 miles to either city, and anywhere in between.
Beginning to Intermediate Trumpet teaching. I have helped many students one on one especially kids that already take band at school, and help them advance to the next playing level and technique.
