When you’ve enjoyed the benefits of playing music like I have, you want to share that knowledge with the world.
My path began by studying advanced music theory, including Symphonic, Classical, Broadway, and Jazz composition. I have been playing trumpet for 14 years, guitar/ukulele/bass for 9, and keyboard has snuck into the mix somewhere along the way. Directed by Bill Wagner, my school’s music department won state championships 3 consecutive years.
As a T.A., I was responsible for making sure all trumpet players were proficient in music comprehension. We competed in countless competitions and festivals in California, traveled the world, and won several awards. I played with Jimmy Clirie, John Cross, and Maynard Fergusson, toured in Austria, Germany, Canada, Nevada, and NYC, competed in the Reno Jazz Festival 3 years, and played at Carnegie Hall, NY.
I also use Ableton Live alongside Propellerhead's Reason software as a live looping platform with some extra hardware on the side.

I have been a public school music teacher for 30+ years. I am an optimistic, enthusiastic person, who will help you learn music reading in addition to music playing. I started on piano as a young child, and studied clarinet from elementary school through college, where I focused on french horn. I have a BA in Music Education from Humboldt State University, where I also earned my teaching credential. I have taught beginning, intermediate and advanced band and orchestra, in addition to choir and jazz band. I have been music director for over 10 middle school musicals. In my spare time I enjoy my two dogs, going horseback riding, and reading.

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. More recently I've also started teaching online lessons via Skype and Google Helpouts with Take Lessons as well.
I received my Bachelor of Music Education with Honors from New Mexico State University in 2008. During the course of my degree I had a special focus on classical guitar and composition, but completed a program certifying teachers for band, orchestra, choir, and general music from kindergarten to high school. I also received my Level 1 Orff certification (music education for small children) from the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Hello, my name is Chris. I am currently a Jazz Studies major at San Jose State University. I began my musical journey at Dartmouth Middle School. I played saxophone, and was only mildly interested in music. I stayed in music in high school, but remained only mildly interested until my Sophomore year. I discovered the trumpet and began to listen to Louis Armstrong, and became obsessed with jazz and mastering the trumpet. In just 2 short years, I had studied enough trumpet to travel South America with the San Jose Youth Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra. After my South American tour, I decided to teach privately and share my talents with the world. I won a scholarship to San Jose State for music excellence in 2009, and joined the Spartan Marching Band. While in this prestigious organization I performed in Olympic Stadiums, Disneyland, and all over San Jose. I am currently working toward a Bachelor of Music with a dual emphasis in Music Education and Jazz Studies from San Jose State. I work for TakeLessons.com, and Manzana Music.
In addition to in person lessons, I teach online. Online lessons use Skype, which provides students with a convenient opportunity to get high quality music lessons. I have personally received lessons online from the highest level of professionals. I recommend online lessons to anyone who is not able to attend in person lessons, or prefers the convenience of online lessons.
