About Me

I was born and raised in Los Angeles but I've just recently relocated to the Bay Area. I am a Professional Musician/Songwriter/Vocalist teaching songwriting, voice, and performance technique as well as a combination thereof. I began singing at a very young age for anyone who would listen (so my parents tell me) and began taking music lessons shortly thereafter. I am now a USC graduate and have also studied music privately for over 25 years as well as at the esteemed Vocal Power Institute. I've professionally released several albums and I am grateful to have had my music featured/licensed by Starbucks, NBC, The CW network,, and MTV. I've toured extensively playing to audiences across the country and have had the honor of sharing the stage with artists ranging from Conor Oberst, Inara George, Johnette Napolitano, Martha Wainwright, to Jackson Browne. I have experience teaching both adults and children, and enjoy teaching beginning as well as intermediate to advanced students. In addition to teaching privately, I have experience teaching children through my volunteer work with The Girls Rock Alliance, a non-profit organization that aims to teach young girls about self-confidence and self-expression through music education.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am easy-going, friendly and I believe that developing a great student/teacher rapport is the key to making the most out of the time we spend together. The curriculum I utilize is specifically designed to meet the student's individual needs. Initially we'll spend time assessing where you are and where you'd like to be. Most importantly, we'll set goals and create a lesson plan that will allow you to attain them. We'll work on basic techniques (or intermediate to advanced depending on skill level), for example - breath support, vowel placement, posture, relaxation, the fundamentals of song structure and music theory. We'll also work on the psychology of performance and eliminating any unwanted tension that may arise. We'll choose songs to work on that you'll enjoy singing, or analyze the songs you love in order to discover and/or improve upon your own songwriting abilities.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Front music studio area w/ guitars, computer with protools, keyboard, microphone, pa system, and seating for parents

Piano, Singing

About Me

What’s special about learning music is every person’s musical journey is their own. My musical journey started on piano, which included singing and accompanying on piano (choir and chorales), and also learning clarinet, and violin.

It was clear in high school that my music journey would be through piano performance. I studied piano performance at UC Davis with Lois Brandwynne as well as accompanied the UC Davis Chamber Singers (Al McNeil, conductor) and for master voice instructor Stephanie Friedman (Mezzo Soprano). I discovered contemporary music while in a jazz fusion band "Melange" and also co-leading the UC Davis gospel choir (With Calvin Lymos) and landed at Berklee College of Music studying music composition, arranging, and ensemble performance graduating with a Bachelor’s of Music.

Professionally, I have played keyboards and sung back-up vocals at wedding gigs and special events. I have performed with chamber groups, classical soloists, and performed contemporary music with great musicians here in the Bay Area. After starting a family I took a long break. However, I am now back into music full time focusing on voice and piano instruction.

My style is teaching music in an accessible way that provides a thorough foundation to help you meet your goals. Giving you the confidence to truly express yourself no matter your level of playing. Whether this is a hobby, or you are seeking performance at a higher level, or a beginner that always wanted to learn but never had the time (and now you do!), I am here to help get you started on your way to your musical journey. Let’s get started!

Lauren G. Danville, CA

Subjects Taught

Broadway Singing, Music Performance, Opera Voice, Singing

About Me

-Teach beginners to advance
-Ages 10 and up
-I travel to you

Hi! My name is Lauren and I have been in love with music for most of my life. Since I was six, I have been singing in one way or another. In middle school I was in the school choir and I performed in a number of band concerts as a vocalist. In high school, I starred in our school's production of "Once Upon a Mattress" as Princess Winnifred the Woebegone. By senior year, I was approached by various faculty to perform our national anthem at three different school events including the NCS Women's basketball championship games. Later that year, I was unanimously chosen to sing our National Anthem at my high school graduation. In college, I started taking lessons in opera and fell completely in love with it. I performed in multiple recitals and was asked to perform in numerous charity events by my school's esteemed faculty.
Though my education is still in progress at Cal State East Bay, I have been teaching for the last five years. My way of teaching is very natural and it is very focused on not pushing the voice. Those who have studied with me would say that I am focused and that I have great attention to detail. I am very good at preparing students for vocal juries and auditions.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson with me will focus on correct breathing technique as well as properly focusing the tone to achieve sound and volume without pushing the voice. In my lessons, if it hurts to sing, then you're doing it wrong and that is when we stop and fix the issue to gain better technique for performance longevity. Though I am classically trained, I have studied other forms of singing and am very open to whatever my student longs to sing. I am a firm believer that practicing at home is half the journey in achieving one's musical goals, therefore I will provide a homework assignment after every lesson for the student to continue to build on what they learned in session. While I am focused, I also want my students to have fun and that is why i strive for a comfortable, open environment that fosters open communication between teacher and student.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my keyboard to accommodate those students who don't have a piano.
